This page is about 2D paper printers. Are you looking for 3D Printers or the Vinyl cutter?

I have a used/broken printer to donate

Please don't. Donated printers eat up space, power, frustration in someone trying to get it to work, and inevitably time and Noisebridge money to keep it maintained or get it properly disposed because no one wants to deal with it. Again, please don't donate any printers. Thank you for understanding.

Black and white printers

Brother HL-5470DW

Small laser printer located next to the electronics bench. It eats toner and trees. It prints double sided. If you print text of greater than 1 page, *use the double sided option*. The you need half the number of pages! If you use it please consider throwing some money into the donate bin.

Super Easy: Google Chrome?

Go to: Cloudprint google reports this as offline for more than a year

Apple OS X or iOS?

Shared with AirPrint as Noisebridge-Brother-Printer, and should show up in the printer drop down list when you try to print something while on the wifi network here.

Linux

Linux Drivers Get both the lpr and cupswrapper, and the printer should show up with it's model. If you're running a Ubuntu, for drivers try sudo apt-get install brother-cups-wrapper-laser brother-lpr-drivers-laser, but likely you will need the specific drivers from the link above as the 5470DW isn't included as of this note.

Print over Wifi/Network

The printer is shared on the network at 10.20.0.145 as Noisebridge-Brother-Printer through all the usual channels, Brother Printer HL5470DW. Mac & Windows Drivers can be found through the internet.

Perfect support on Linux In Gnome Printer settings, type in the printer's IP address (10.20.0.145 as of this revision) and select JetDirect Printer and select the "Brother HL 5370DW/Postscript" driver.

Print over USB

There is a USB cable plugged into the printer, hopefully. The printer is a Brother Printer HL5470DW. Mac & Windows Drivers can be found through the internet. On Linux try “Generic PCL 6/PCL XL Printer - CUPS+Gutenprint” or download drivers from Brother. If you're running a Ubuntu, for drivers try sudo apt-get install brother-cups-wrapper-laser brother-lpr-drivers-laser.

Consumables

If the printer needs new toner, search for Brother TN720/TN750. Monoprice sells remanufactured cartridges for cheap ($~20).

This video shows how to replace the toner: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GiTZcIgUhNU

Once in a blue moon, the printer will also need a new drum unit, DR720. Monoprice sells these for cheap as well. Drum units last years even with copious printing—replacing this part should be a last resort.

Please bring up paper.
