==Casting at Noisebridge== Currently this page is a list of guidelines for casting in the space. There have been issues in the past with messes that were not cleaned properly which ruined equipment, and the realities of ventilation in the space need to be taken into account as well. Currently, the only ventilation hood is located in [[SparkleForge]], but as casting is typically a messy process, it should be carried out in the [[Resources/Shop | The Dirty Shop]]. This means there will not be adaquate ventilation for all but benign materials. The best approach for everyone would be to ask in person at a Tuesday meeting, email Noisebridge-discuss, or check on Slack for the appropriateness of the casting activity. ==Approved Materials== (tbd) ==Process Guidelines== # Research your activity including how to handle spills, and what materials must not come in contact with the chemical # Use appropriate safety equipment for hands, nose, mouth, and eyes # Don't use NB materials that will get ruined, please use disposable ones if you cannon bring in your own # Appropriately stage your work area. ## Remove anything that might get in your way or you might knock into while working. ## Keep a bin and cleaning materials nearby for accidents ## Lay down some kind of protective surface. There are large rolls of cellophane in the kitchen area which work well when properly wrapped around and anchored to a surface. # Clean up after you project #: This step is left out from many projects. This step and time to complete it should be included in your project. Not doing so is most unexcellent to everyone, especially if there is a resulting mess #: Some people are concerned that if they report a mistake, there will be consequences. Beyond someone being annoyed, it's highly unlikely. It's far worse to make the second mistake of not telling someone and equipment ends up ruined. ==Locations== Douglas and Sturgess is an excellent resource for casting materials and expertise. They also run classes on a semi-regular basis, but it's best to check in store or on the phone, as their website does not get updated regularly.
