Noisebridge has been equipped with DMX controlled light fixtures since NB10.
Lighting is set as a proscenium-style plot, facing the front of the Hackitorium.
Our setup is built using OpenLightingArchitecture and ArpNet.

What is still needed

- Draw an updated diagram for this wiki!
- Print out documentation for users in the space who wanting to disco!
- Add manufacturer documentation for each of our specific lights
- Modifying and extending our system via PD, Max/MSP, Python, LightKey MacOS app, etc.
- Additional documentation is needed for the wiki page + use of this awesome lighting!
- A physical DMX/Midi controller would be great for running scenes and lighting changes. Help set something up!
- 6 par can clamps for easier mounting.
- Daisy chain-able power cables for the RGB Par Cans. Will significantly reduce our current cabling and setup time.
- Integrate the lighting plot with our existing RGB Signage in the main Hackitorium.
- Integrate the lighting plot with our Flaschen-taschen protocol.

Documentation 2018 Update

All lighting has been relocated from the SparkleForge and Noisesquare table to the main Hackitorium.

Obey 40 DMX controller tips and manual

Rando donated a Obey 40 DMX controller. If you plug this directly into the DMX cable going up to the lights, you can control them with it! However, I recommend familiarizing yourself with the controller using some youtube videos and using the manual for the RGB par lights to understand how they interpret the DMX information that the controller sends to them.

Here are some good videos to get you started controlling the lights and making scenes, but remember the DMX controller is sending generic commands to the lights, you need the manual for the light fixtures to understand how the lights will react to that information.

This video explains how the DMX controller and the light interact and uses the Obey 40 as the controller. Do not use the instructions here for how to playback lighting scenes using the chase function on the controller, the directions skip some steps.

The next video has accurate instructions for setting up scenes and chases. Watch this one to understand those functions instead.

For reference, here is the manual for the DMX controller. If nothing else, it explains how to reset the controller so you aren't working with someone elses confifurations messing up your attempts to work with the controller.
