Ed was asked (somewhat convincingly) by a Chicago judge to do 60 hours of community service in penance for a terrible crime, the likes of which he will happily regale you with.

He asked if he could do it with Noisebridge.

8/19/2011 Hi everybody! Ed here, and yes, the above is true. The great state of Illinois has recently assigned me 60 hours of self-placed community service for being involved in a bar fight(i.e. Punching a guy for insulting my recently deceased father.) The term "self-placed" means I can perform my assigned hours of community service at any non-profit organization I choose, which is nice. I found Noisebridge while running a search for non-profits on Yelp, which was 3rd down from the top of the list right behind the Red Cross and the Sisterhood of Perpetual Indulgence. Not having the slightest idea what to expect I called the "red phone" number listed on the wiki and briefly spoke with someone about my situation and they suggested that I come by Tuesday night for the meeting. I did, and it was awesome. I met mostly everyone in the space that night and got to share few laughs before Danny and Liz paired me up with Robert, to discuss how I can help out around Noisebridge. On top of doing some general cleaning, I also hope to be able to do a few cooking classes as well.

See you around the space!
