This is in its infancy stage, so I'm mostly throwing ideas about.
What is a good date to hold it?
Who is interested in working on this? I'd like to set up a meeting once we know who we'd best schedule with:
We need to figure out all the logistics of a party. Like who will provide entertianment and where we'll get the stuff to do this.
DJs and the like. Who'll step up?
VG: If we have money to spend, we could actually get someone quite talented. Folks like DJ Shadow aren't obscenely expensive. we're looking in the range of a couple thousand dollars for a night. If we spent $2500 on a band, we could get someone legendary. Of course, we could also use someone we know who'd DJ for free.
k9d: i could do a liveset as starpause and can provide house sound in between acts/djs (all creative commons material). it would be good to have one bigger name to headline the bill and get more bodies at the fundraiser.
It's been suggested that we approach this as a risk venture. Pledges of money here are expected to be returned from the take. People who sponsor will put up the risk, but it's pretty nominal considering how cool and popular we are, so long as we don't go crazy with things.
- Andy has pledged $100
Stuff and Logistics
Once we have a location down we'll have a better idea of the stuff we'll need.
VG: One of you knows how to get postcards printed. We'll need some art and info for a doublesided party promotion postcard. I'd estimate about $200 to get 1000 printed.
Tones: I really like http://www.psprint.com/ in Oakland.
Where we hold it will determine a lot of stuff like equipment required, etc.
"CELLspace is a fully permitted place of entertainment (POE), capable of hosting events for up to 299 people until 2am Friday through Sunday (and sometimes Thursday)."
It looks like the best available date for Cellspace would be Friday October 9th. I think at 1 month out from moving in, this would be a good date for a party.
- permits all taken care of
- they'll hand-hold us through all the steps to stay legal
- They exist to support non-profits (like us)
- Indoor smoking (seriously!)
- Equipment (lighting, sound, etc.) provided
- Decent location (was site of 2009 CodeCon)
- Friday $800 to $1,200
- Saturday $1,200 to $2,000
- Sunday $250 to $500
DaveX runs the place and I have a decent rapport with him, so would be happy to interface. Christie
