Intro

Mitch is setting up a huge Hardware Hacking Area (HHA) again this year at the 2010 Maker Faire! The Maker Faire is at the San Mateo County Fair Grounds, on Saturday May 22 and Sunday May 23.

Anyone and everyone can volunteer! No experience necessary!

We will be teaching zillions of people how to make cool things, and teaching everyone how to solder! We need lots of volunteers to help out. It's tons of fun, and for doing a 4-hour shift, you get in to the entire Maker Faire for free (all weekend)!

Here are the shifts available to help out at the huge Hardware Hacking Area for the Maker Faire.

Please edit this page to fill your name into a time slot that is not already taken. (All time slots are 4 hours.) After you fill in your name, please email me.

Volunteer Sign-up

After adding your name to your time slot, please email me (maltman23 AT hotmail DOT com) as soon as you can with the following information:

1) The name (first and last) you want to give to the Maker Faire people when you arrive for your free "credentials" (as they're calling the passes for volunteers).
2) The 4-hour shift you want.

If all time-slots are full, please email me.

HHA Volunteer Info

The Hardware Hacking Area is lots of fun! No soldering experience necessary. I'll show you everything you need to know.

We'll be teaching zillions of people to make cool things, and we'll be demonstrating Brain Machines to everyone (which attracts a huge, enthusiastic, curious crowd to the area!).

The Faire is open to the public between 10am and 8pm on Saturday, and between 10am and 6pm on Sunday. We'll be hopping the whole time, with 54 solder stations happening at once!

Getting to the Faire and the HHA

The San Francisco Maker Faire is in the San Mateo County Fair Grounds. Please consider getting to the Faire by means other than by car. Last year there was an all-day traffic jam (both Saturday and Sunda) on 101, which made it take hours (yes, plural) to get past the Faire exit. From the Caltrain Hilsdale Station it is only about a few hundred yards walk north to the San Mateo County Fair Grounds. Here is a map: Hilsdale Station

Once at the Fair Grounds, look for the registration tent. Give your name to the friendly person there, and say you're helping with Mitch's Hardware Hacking Area in the Maker Shed, and they will give you the credentials. Keep in mind that registration may take awhile if there is a line.

Please show up at the Hardware Hacking Area a few minutes before your shift starts.

The Hardware Hacking Area should be easy to find once you get into the building that is being called the Maker Shed, which is a very, very large building. The Hardware Hacking Area will be one large corner of it.

If you have any problems at all, or any questions, please give me a call on my cell phone: 415-377-5993
