Note-taker: @nthmost.

Congratulations and/or condolences! You're reading this because you're participating in a meeting of Noisebridge!
Moderators: @nthmost.

Meetings should be limited to an hour when possible. Shorter is fine, but avoid rushing.

You should read this instructional section thoroughly, and treat them as a guideline for how to host a meeting of Noisebridge. There are three ingredients to an Excellent meeting: A number of note takers, some facilitators, and participants.
* This is why meetings don't happen, because everyone knows what Noisebridge is. (Actually I beg to differ, says Naomi.)

Meetings are just one of the tools used at Noisebridge to create net forward progress on whatever it is we're all trying to do. Meetings aren't the only way to make decisions or have discussions, and in fact its usually a much better idea to talk about things outside the meeting before dragging the entire community kicking and screaming into it.
Meeting Summary
Note Takers
TLDR what happened at the meeting:
# Confirm last meeting was saved
* Announcements: Haskell Class starting Oct 18th (every 1st and 3rd Wednesday). Cryptobuilders workshop every 2nd and 4th Wednesday.
# Take new notes
* Finances: ???
# Save and share the notes at the end of the meeting (instructions at the bottom).
* New members: nope but we should contact Merlin and let her know she's at 4 weeks!
* New philanthropists: nope
* Consensus Items: Elevator Repair Fund
* Discussion Items: people lost interest and went to the Internet Archive at this point.

Facilitators
what Noisebridge is about:
<blockquote>Noisebridge is a 501c3 nonprofit that provides a space for creation, collaboration, and learning about technology and creative projects. Noisebridge provides space, power tools, and infrastructure to help the public learn new skills and create cool things. Noisebridge continues to exist through and depends entirely on membership fees and donations. Our code of conduct is 'Be excellent to each other'."</blockquote>

There are generally two kinds of facilitator roles at a Noisebridge meeting:
Introductions
* Stack taker - Useful when a lot of folks want to hop on the discussion stack. This gives everyone a turn to have their feelings heard. Usually only works when there is exactly one stack taker.
* Moderators - Keeps the meeting moving and prevents everyone from wasting too much time on one subject. Anyone is free to pick up moderation and move the meeting along.

In general, moderators should:
* Understand the structure of Noisebridge decision-making
* Make sure everyone gets a chance to speak.
* Speak only minimally yourself.
* Keep the meeting moving, and avoid getting bogged down.
* Identify discussion items, arrange times limits for talking about each item.
* Identify and summarize consensus, suggest things that need to be done.
* Get the membership binder and ensure that it is returned safely.

Participants
Everyone at a Noisebridge meeting who has consented to participating in one is a participant!

* Say your name before you talk.
* Remain on-topic, and speak as concisely as possible.
* Assist the note-taker with any links or corrections that are needed.
* Remain respectful of other participants, their time, and the consensus and moderation process.

* New philanthropists:
* Consensus Items:
* Discussion Items:

Introductions
* Marco -- Building a search engine for Code Learning resources, UX design, traveling between Berlin and SF.
* Dang -- Founding member of HACKER CLUB consisting of just ME.  What are we talking about? I'm just workjing on signing some documents.
* Augur -- You all know me as Augur. I hack on shit, like the laser cutter and I teach laser cuttering things. Soon to teach a Haskell class.
* Nthmost -- i like to take meetings notes
* Kyle -- I'm not even here, but you skipped Nick. No that's just a statement of fact.
* Nick -- I travel around looking for insecure wifi without passwords to hack.  And I'm printing stuff.
* Michael -- I teach at Cogswell college, a VR class in Santa Clara. We need wizards for the Singularity.
* Alex -- I do Gamebridge U on Tuesdays, making the Internet Archive into its own VR version.
* Juan -- I hack. I am a cyberwizard. Not yet a lizard.
* Paul -- I go by Schwifty. I make things, a lot of things out of plastics.  Flowers, expanding foam, bouncy balls. Sometimes skateboards.  3D modeling, trying to sew.
* grey (グレェ) -- Just started working with the MADE. Starting to do inventory on 1000s of games. Like to go to other hackerspaces like Sudo Room

* Invite a knowledgeable volunteer to explain what Noisebridge is about:

* Introduce any experimental or unusual moderation techniques that may be using during the meeting like: direct responses, limited speaking time, orderless stack, &c.
* Round of introductions (remember, announcements come later):
** What's your name
** What do you do
** What do you maintain at Noisebridge?
** if you are new: how did you hear about Noisebridge?

* Cool new projects? Something you'd like people to know? Say now, but keep it short! One or two sentences please!
* Augur -- starting Oct 18th and every other Wednesday (1st and 3rd, opposite cryptobuilders) -- Haskell Class at 8pm.  On Slack it's #haskell-class
* Any happenings at the space of which members should be made aware.
* Cryptobuilders workshop in Hackitorium 2nd and 4th Wednesday.  Alt currency, pizza, meet and greet.
* Don't hog everyone's time since we all just want to hack!
* Schwifty -- I really am going to make Club Mate. [Something about dry ice and straining.]  I AM gonna do it but you guys should be on the lookout for a metal strainer and metal bowl, 4" to 8" diameter.

Note: This section is experimental.  We discussed it at Meeting_Notes_2016_06_28. We're going to try it for the next meeting, and see how it goes, and then discuss in the discussion section how it went, and how we'd like to tweak it.
* Augur: We want NB to be as welcome as possible. It's excellent if a person told they are being unexcellent for being inconsiderate is willing to stop that conversationWe have an Ask to Leave policy that may be applied when people aren't responsive to being politely asked to stop bothering.

Noisebridge is a safe spaceInvite a volunteer to describe what that means.

Some specific points you might prompt the group to touch on, if it doesn't happen naturally:
* What to do if you feel uncomfortable.
* Noisebridge strives to be radically inclusive. What does that mean?
* Noisebridge has an antiharassment policy. What does that mean?

Participation
Participation
Invite a knowledgable volunteer to describe who can participate at Noisebridge, including:
Augur: If you want to do stuff at Noisebridge, come do stuff at Noisebridge!  (And be Excellent while you are doing so!)
* Describe how to get an rfid key for the door system
* Describe how to get access to slack

Philanthropists
Philanthropists
* Invite a knowledgeable volunteer to describe Philantropy, and the application process.

* Read off any names from the binder for the past month. Any applicants must have their sponsor present to vouch for them.
[Augur checks the binder, no new applications.]
* If there are no objections, they're a philanthropist! Their pledge should be handed over to the Secretary posthaste, after which their token will be updated to give them the 24/7 access they've earned(?)

Membership Binder
Membership Binder
* Invite a knowledgeable volunteer to describe membership, and the application process.
Augur: Membership is a bit more responsibility. You can block Consensus items and grant RFID tokens.
<blockquote>Being a member of Noisebridge is not like being a member of a gym or your local chess club. Anyone can come to Noisebridge to hack and learn: you don't need to be a member for that. At Noisebridge, membership is something different: it means taking responsibility and committing to help to maintain, improve, and govern Noisebridge. As a member of Noisebridge, you don't just come here to hack and learn, you actively work to improve what you see around you, help to deal with problems, and make this community and space better than it is today.</blockquote>

* Read off any names from the binder for the past month. Mark down a check or other indicator on every open application to keep track of how many weeks they've been read out.
Merlin: 4 checks ... hasn't been here in a while. [I'll let her know! --nthmost]
* Anyone eligible to join this week should
Nicole: 2 checks
** introduce themselves,
Lady Red: 3 checks
** answer any questions members may have for them, then
** leave the area in search of gifts (traditionally beer and a lime, or cookies) for the rest of the group.
* The rest of the meeting should reach consensus on whether they may join.
* Remember to applaud new members when they return.

Elevator Repair Fund
Discussion
`Zach proposes that NB set aside $400 per year for the purpose of elevator repair costs. Any deductions from this fund can be recorded with receipts and sent to noisebridge-discuss or the Wiki`

Longer discussion items belong here.  This is the last part of the meeting so that people can break off and continue their discussion afterwards.
N: where does that number come from?
Z: A low number that will make people happy.
N: What have been our costs in the past?
Z: I did the repairs recently, those costs have been "not verty much"... Parts cost "quite low" because it's not fully fixed yet -- some crimps, a couple light bulbs, most of which was found in NB, but we need to replace significant parts of the gate.  Henner might fabricate a new wooden panelI feel like ppl should be compensated for their time in this.
N: historically we don't compensate for time...
J: This might fall under the existing equipment fund.  We can consider the elevator something like infrastructure for the space.
A: Patrick commented 2 weeks ago that NB has had a policy of paying for things as infrastructure, it's just never been officially ratified. It may be too hazy that no one knows about it so we should make it more official as a consensus item.
Z: didn't know about the equipment fund. I do have to say, personally, I think the elevator should be under a different guideline as it's not a tool that makes NB cooler, it's something that prevents community members from entering the space.
N: Right, we have to be ADA accessible.
K: I'd feel cool about paying a pro, less good about paying NB people.
A: it's really the landlord's responsibility.  We should build a device that convinces the landlord to fix it.
Alex: I support the elevator fund.
