== Discussion == Upcoming Cleaning Weekend Lady Red - The space is maintained by all of us; we are coming up on our cleaning festival on the first weekend of February; we'll be hacking on the space and making it better to be here. Bernice - there was a cleaning wiki page list, should we do that again? Example: https://www.meetup.com/noisebridge/events/253288065/ & https://www.noisebridge.net/wiki/Cleaning R - Locker clean out; please fill out still in use verification sheets or clean out your locker. Bored and want to sneak into stuff? Anon - Take only pictures, leave only footprints, break only silence Guilds Matt - Noisebridge can be difficult to interact with as a beginner. Naomi suggested a guild system. After a tour, a person can express their interests and be given a way to contact a guild that lets them become more involved in a particular area. Bernice - Try it and see if it works. How will people know about this? Matt - Can we work together to create a new brochure / tour script? Lady Red - I'm optimistic about the guild idea; good to try this. A bit of structure may be good. How does one join a guild? Don't want to have to find someone to talk to at the right time. Victoria - I like the idea of guilds. Having a sign / display of the guilds of Noisebridge would be super useful. Lady Red - there will be posters; I'm into heraldry Ze - lollipop guild; a google form would make guild contact easy Discuss discourse discussion Victoria - last month or so slack was kind of gross; we talked (Victoria, Naomi, etc.) about the rapid fire negative feedback loop on slack; things escalate quickly. I came back from a two week break and felt anxious. If you miss it for a day, you've missed out on a lot of stuff. We now have discuss, discuss.noisebridge.info, a discourse installation. We can add you right now! What should we call this? Thoughts? Should we open it up to public registration? Ze - since we've recently been talking about NVC, we should think about the environment. How can we make sure it doesn't turn into another gross space? Don't open it until we have a good system. Victoria - Whole point of slack is to use it. Discourse is not rapid fire, more like a mailing list. Discourse slows things down and makes people think more about the words they are using. I want it to be invite only for now to set the table. Maybe open it up at the end of February. It does have nice moderation tools. Lady Red - I'm optimistic about going to the new platform. Noisebridge has been good and bad on slack. Idea: post an invite link in the space. Make small part open to everyone? In general, slack has a way of sticking around Victoria - I don't thinking switching tools gets rid of issues. Discuss will be more thoughtful and slow it down. Getting on slack helped fix Noisebridge at the time. Switching from one place to another was useful. May be good to start from scratch every two to three years. The lock on the door basically stopped sleeping. Bernice - Before we allow someone online, they should have a debriefing or training or something first. We should tell people about the greater internet f wad theory. Victoria - discuss has private messaging. Matt - We had issues where we assumed everyone who needed to know stuff was in a channel but they weren't. It encourages us that there is group cohesion. Eric - I prefer seeing people in person; I sift through meetups. Victoria - discuss is amenable to people just sifting through it. Elaine - I still need to look through it to see what it is. Zach - One big issue with communication is people miss out on the tone and body language. An auditory social network might work better. There is the overhead of speaking but it helps with context. We've recently ordered some BOES AR glasses to try this. Kevin - I'm not sure yet. Eclair - What if everyone made an animated version of themselves that had their movements and body language that talked the way you talk but computerized. R - we could differentiats discuss and nb-discuss by saying Noisebridge Discuss and Noisebridge's Discuss. Matt - We need to move noisebridge.info to Noisebridge's ownership.
