Pre-Amble

Excellence

Our One Rule is to Be Excellent to Each Other.

(What does that mean? How does the Anti-Harassment Policy fit into this? Are we SURE we know what being Excellent is? This is an important and fundamental conversation at Noisebridge, so let's give it like 120 seconds.)

Participation

Everyone at Noisebridge is a participant at Noisebridge.

(What does that mean? How do you get a door key? Access to Slack, Discuss, etc?)

Guilds Definition

Guilds are how groups at noisebridge organize.

(What is a guild? How do you join one? etc)

Philanthropist definition

A Philanthropist at Noisebridge has earned enough trust from the community to open and close the space.

(What does that mean? What do we expect from Philanthropists? How do you become one? etc)

Membership Definition

Membership in Noisebridge entails community Trust in Consensus.

(What does that mean? What do we expect from Members? How do you become a Member? etc)

Consensus

Consensus is how the Noisebridge Membership may change how Noisebridge works.

(How does Consensus work? What types of things are good for formal Consensus? What is small-c consensus? What is a "block"?)

Discussion

Covid Safety

Dan: what's been happening in terms of volunteering? what could we improve? Feeling challenged by it, but the hardest thing for me is having the conversation... kind of interesting to observe myself being a little shy about bringing it up. Other ppl feel that way? Address this on a meta-level if we're counting on all of us being mindful and aware and assuming that "if you see something say something" is Good Enough.

Naomi: we made effort to distance better on sunday, have 4 people max at 2169 (were a few mistakes, due to monkeybrains recieving efforts), problem with two efforts being corrinated at same time, we need a single individual as the logsistiics coordinators each day and that is all they do. Figure out who iis good at this. At peak we had 10 to 12 people one at each end of ramp, two driving, a few outside only. Please speak up if you see issues.

Dan: Agree w/ that suggestion and would like to hear from others. Good if we have someone on hand who's ready and willing to bring up the possibly uncomfortable but necessary conversation about safety.

Ryan: Went to 272 for teh first time since pre-covid this afternoon to drop off 3d printers, filament, VR. Surprised by how tired i was just moving that small amount of stuff (mask, smoke, asthma). Reiterate that if you have breathing issues of any kind, best if you help out online. Be safe for safety's sake, not just for COVID-19 compliance. Don't be a hero.

(Naomi: People have been pretty conservative!)

Ryan: I accidentally walked up the stairs while X was walking down as I was carrying stuff and did not want to walk backwards should we callout when we walk up or down stairs, or set one set of stairs for up or down. also having multiple people carrying stuff on stairs at once is dangerous as well.

(What should Ryan's punishment be? Say 2 Hail Emperor Nortons and 5 Our Internet's Own Boys)

Robert: Def got hot and sweaty, was hard to breathe through the mask esp with the fires. As far as a flow of work... can we set some rules? So that ppl who are less "flamboyant" can feel confident in telling ppl "hey can you back off so i can pass"...

Naomi: What is ithe ammount of people who feel uncofortable with speaking up if they see a problem or make a mistake. Understanding of transmission has changed recently. Masks are more importaint then distance, also voice level.

Ryan: Can we have ppl carry compressed air noisemakers or whatever

DECISION: Vuvuzela with HEPA filter!! (kidding)

Everyone should carry a dog toy. Squeak once for yes, two for no.

Dan: So to recap: airborne + droplets are the main factor PLUS time spent face-to-face PLUS effectiveness of masks. Viral load depending on if they have it. I would trade all of our guidelines for just people having good masks and not talking on and on inside the space. Details matter. Every once in a while there's something that adds up to enough to want to say something. The deal is We Need Your Help to be mindful and helpful. Guidelines, e.g. "conversations should happen outside".

Observations: being diplomatic can be difficult. There were a couple ppl with N95s with 1-way valves. They put another mask on top of that. What were they thinking this late in the game? It's human instinct to be energetic and run up and down the stairs and keep talking. But I think it'd be good to let ppl know to move slowly and have conversations outside.

Naomi: Why should we move slowly? I don't understand the value here. Agree that doubling up on masks is a good solution. Disagree that wearing N95 or N100 is ungood; the fires have made the air really bad. Easy fix, put a mask on a mask.

Ryan: I wear a bandana over my N95 all the time. Don't use valved masks at all b/c even if it's pushing it down, i sneeze and that would be very forceful coming out of a valve. A sneeeze will break that seal...

Naomi: Seriously? Go outside to sneeze.

Dan: What I care about is the airspace. I'm talking about the 1 person who didn't put on a second mask, and they were really talkative.

Robot: You can come to me, I will talk to people about this when/if needed.

LXPK: If layering of masks is effective, and we can hand them out to increase strength, then we should just go with that.

Naomi: sounds good, and we can improve our practices as this goes on. I feel personally responsible for the volunteers I brought in so I want to make sure we don't have this happen again.

Dan: problems will happen, can we make people fell comfortable coming forward

Naomi: Suggestion: a very clear poster, copied and posted everywhere (both locations). does huffing and puffing make a big differenc as speed.

Dan lets have people breath mre relaxed if possible

Ryan: there's a vast difference in expenditure and higher danger when you are moving quickly. If you're wanting to move something quickly then it's probably too heavy.

Naomi: then it begs the question "what is too fast", because i think this is totally subjective.

Dan: i think if you were seeing what i was seeing you'd agree.

Naomi: OK.

Robot: I think it depends and it'll all depend. I'd rather carry something heavy myself even though i'm exerting myself, instead of doubling up to have someone else carry something and be in my airspace.

Ryan: Could be good to have a starting check-in, even if everyone's been there before. Thanks for coming, this is what we're trying to do today, etc. "Don't overexert yourself, take breaks when you need them. Try to avoid making people feel rushed. If someone thinks someone's moving too fast, that generally does mean they're moving too fast because ppl can pick up when someone's gait look unnatural. Today I was moving too fast, i left my car on and doors open i should have asked X to just watch my car while I move the stuff so that I could go slower, or talked with X about how we should move the stuff at the beginning.

Naomi: I have been doing all of that (starting volunteering with a preamble, recommending ppl take breaks, etc). Cheers.

Robot: We need more out of meeting communication, and why did we not talk more while moving, Lets do this! Improving communication overall, how about we focus on that?

Dan: Happy to have had this conversation, good example just to answer why we're having a meta-discussion. Specific instances, they didn't raise an alarm with me at the time, i realized in retrospect "this will probably add up if it gets worse". thinking long-term of systemic challenges. Agree w/ Robert that communication is the challenge. We're totally capable of solving this. Glad we know each other well enough to know how interesting these discussions can get.

Naomi: Let's make a poster so it's excruciatingly clear how to wear a mask.

Structuring 272 Capp

Where should stuff go in new noisebridge?

  • flaschen tashen and stuff like that
  • cafe au noisebridge
  • sewing

We gotta throw some paint on these walls! andd projection mapping onto the walls

Info: Jarrod (happy that move is going well, but doesn't feel safe going anywhere) -- maybe we can get him to make a layout design for 272 Capp!

Ryan: I'll get measurements, need to find a time when no one is around.

Naomi: Best time to do that is weekdays when we won't be doing big moves (hard to get volunteers).

Ryan: lots of logistics around moving the laser cutter

Naomi: put that kind of thing on the Notion planner, best place to keep track of easily taskable tasks.

Ryan: lots of folks have moved on since then.

Naomi: yup. this is the way of our ppl. We just learn things again.

Ryan: where the sewing stuff should go? first floor?

Naomi: why this area?

Ryan: because i keep forgetting this area when I conceptualize where the areas should go.

LXPK: Once we get a lift that won't be a constraint. There isn't enough room for everything to sit on the first floor. So in the interest of having the first floor usable, maybe we split out some areas that are OK to be broken up. E.g. electronics workbenches could be placed some upstairs and some downstairs.

Dan: This is about accessibility?

LXPK: Yeah just until we get the lift going. So let's say there's a beginner's sewing machine on the first floor. And we tell ppl there's more on the 2nd floor. May not be feasible to have everything be accessible right *now* but it's a decent start.

Ryan: Moving tables for a presentation, we'd need to figure out where the tables would go. I have ideas for how to improve our tables; annoyed that no one makes the kind of desk likes that I want.

Naomi: What's our ETA on getting a lift installed, anyway?

(sounds like Rikke is still working on it, we don't know how long it will take. so transitional plans make sense.)

Ryan: do we need a CASp inspection to have an elevator installed? We should have Tyler ask the landlord if they'll need to approve the installation of the lift.

Naomi misses Jarrod.

Ryan: I'll take some pics of candidate locations, see if he has opinions.

Naomi: Yeah i think if we presented him with specific problems (instead of "tell us what to do with 272 Capp) we'd have a better chance of recruiting him.

Ryan: Let's also ask landlord about what we're OK changing and not changing (doors, windows, can we build a 3rd floor, helicopter landing pad...).

Flaschentaschen-Q

I scream, you scream, we all scream for more flaschentashen

We could have flaschentaschen in our window wells. Really good LED displays. Maybe people would ask people at NB to make them for other places.

epoxy the floors with leds (get a epoxy company to sponsor)

flaschen on ground in ADA

Having lit ADA paths would be dope. Let's make sure they don't outshine a projector so it doesn't interfere with movie night or whatever. (like a movie theatre)

Carl more iinteractive ones

flashen all the things

Moichandizing

Let's make some new merch!

write your handle on the handle of the noisebridge mugs. We could use the Tesla and Hamilton murals for mugs too. more designs on the noisebridge website numbered special edition items (hexadecimal?) Someone points out that 272 is 110 in hexadecimal. more club mate
