Excellence[edit]

Our One Rule is to Be Excellent to Each Other.

(What does that mean? How does the Anti-Harassment Policy fit into this? Are we SURE we know what being Excellent is? This is an important and fundamental conversation at Noisebridge, so let's give it like 120 seconds.) Steve: one rule be excellent to each other, referring to bill and ted. we are crazy geniouses that mostly get along. We keep ontop of our selves. We work hard to not go balistic on each other. we talk out our issues. Don't bring your drama here. Monitor your state of mind and try to get along. Dave brought pizza Dave: marianne brought pizza. Evil dan has been organizing and cleaning have been exellent. Ronald and Ryan have done a bunch of stuff. Ronald has set up a cork board and computer.

Participation[edit]

Everyone at Noisebridge is a participant at Noisebridge.

(What does that mean? How do you get a door key? Access to Slack, Discuss, etc?) Sophia: Nobody is an employee. You have wide ladditude to do things. you should participate. You can and should do stuff here. Dave:30 day access token after you are known in the space. Dave: you can donate a decent amount and get a door key amd with that comes other responsibilities

Sophia: we have 2 or more communication platforms. Slack has limitations and you must be invited into slack. Discuss anyone can join. but you don't need an account to access it.

Philanthropists TJ: philanthropists youmust participate and maybe donate. We have a philanthropist Bryan Trying to join us. We need to get him here to get him to stop woodworking.

Bryan: I work int he wookshop and considered becomeing a philanthropist and I"ve been thingking about it. I don't know if i"ll be able to commit in the long term. I keep on wanting to help and work in the communal build out. I'll mabe think about it till next meeting.

Steve: I want you to be a philanthropist because you sound very responsible.

Dave: re apply when you feel like it.

Pyconaught: leave it in the binder.

Mark: philanthropy is more a symbol of trust rather monitary donations except for being responsible. Everything else is negotiable.

All of our virtual spaces You can also participate digitally through our different online systems- noisebridge slack (ask for access) noisebridge discuss https://discuss.noisebridge.info/ noisebridge wiki https://www.noisebridge.net/wiki/ noisebridge meetup https://www.meetup.com/noisebridge/ noisebridge discord https://discord.gg/tddK6NZ

Philanthropists[edit]

A Philanthropist at Noisebridge has earned enough trust from the community to open and close the space.

(What does that mean? What do we expect from Philanthropists? How do you become one? etc)

To become a philathropist yopu need to be sponsored by a Member, and if you get approved you get 24 hour access. You have to know how to mantain the space to a degree.

Philanthropist in waiting- Brian Sponsor is-

Brian- Going to wait another week to apply.

Membership Binder [edit]

Membership in Noisebridge entails community Trust in Consensus.

(What does that mean? What do we expect from Members? How do you become a Member? etc)

Fundraising Update[edit]

How's it all going

Consensus[edit]

Consensus is how the Noisebridge Membership may change how Noisebridge works.

(How does Consensus work? What types of things are good for formal Consensus? What is small-c consensus? What is a "block"?)

Small things use small c concensus big changes use big c Big c is a lot of money or changes how noisebridge fundametally runs

Pyconaut- consensus is the process by which things that can't be done through basic do-ocracy (things that affect others in the space.) It has two flavors, small c and big C. Small c consensus is the process where things that might cause slight issues in the space (events, big projects, moving rooms, etc), you just talk with the community before doing things. Big C consensus is the process by which actions are taken at noisebridge that are too big, too expensive, or too critical to be done by small c consensus. These are things like Moving, spending a lot of money, or doing legal bureaucratic garbage. This is a two week+ process where an item is proposed one week (if possible you should already have the item posted in draft consensus items, and the binder). At that meeting it will be discussed for a while, then the next week it will be discussed again, and if people feel confident, it will be brought up for consensus, and if no big M member blocks the consensus item it passes and becomes a Consensed item.

Proposals from last week [edit]

(Add any items which are consensed upon or someone has raised a principle objection for to the Consensus Items History page.)

Proposals for next week [edit]

(Add any new items for consensus to the Current Consensus Items page.)

https://www.noisebridge.net/wiki/Current_Consensus_Items

TWO different proposals on how we could handle vax status

OPTION 1: Inquiring about vaccination status It is excellent to broach the subject of vaccination, either by pointing at the sign, or asking the person if they are vaccinated. If people are unvaccinated they must not be let inside without very good reason.

  • lizzard - i'm in favor of this

broccoli blocks this

OPTION 2: Require showing vaccination cards Explicitly require showing vaccination cards prior to entry to Noisebridge (until further notice). Blocked as currently written

This came about due to the questions that came up when asking non vaccinated people to leave. Having big C concensus will make it easier for people to fell safe asking people to leave, and for how it should be handled.

There are two options (vaccine cards or ask about status)

Multiple people dislike the idea of forced deanominazation of people by looking at card and id, but are fine with asking people about

Both options have current exsplicit blocks, reasons and alternatives will be explained

New option from Fineline You must broach the subject of vaccination, either by pointing at the sign, or asking the person if they are vaccinated. You may _not_ request to see someone's official vaccination record, as we oppose the deanonymization that would induce*. If people are unvaccinated they must not be let inside without very good reason.

  • This does not apply to events hosted at noisebridge by third
parties (eg our monthly hack comedy, hackathons, etc..). If the host of these events wants to require official proof of
vaccination, we can accommodate this.

Mark- I am not a member, but if I was I would block this. I think we need to enforse masks as lying is very easy, and masks

Soon we might be required to follow the methods of bars requiring vacine cards

relay: if we're going to do this, we're going to have to have explicit 'doorway' procedures.

nadine: sounds like a nightmare. no one wants to be put in that situation. no one wants deanonymity also. how do we straddle the line. how about show your card and cover your name or also not phone number

evil dan: enjoy the moments we have together until our ultimate doom from ebola-covid

dave: direct response to steve. don't understand why it needs to be combined. both can go in as separate items.

steve: talked to tj, agreed that we were going to block requiring vax cards. wanted to go for lesser option. option 1 not good by itself because it didnt explicitly forbid chacking the vac records. kept option 1 intact, but prevents from checking vax records.

Sophia- Generally people of noisebridge would not lie, and I would be comfortable asking them to take exstended leave if they lie.

steve: recapping what happened. sophia proposes i retract my block if we small c concens to not check vac cards on top of option 1.

Steve- I retrat my block under those conditions.

Currenmt term-

pyconaut: i have comments but do not block option 1. can add to small-c consensus. if someone new to the space. if someone asks to see the card people can say no they don't want to show it. I think this will help with possible gaps.

dan: consensus is the map not the territory - the reality of dealing with these fucking people. It is good to have a good map. You want to keep it simple and it is ok wait a week and figure it out next week. With regard to one counterpoint to our culture is to have "YOU MUST" is concerning. someone suggested changing it to "it would be excellent to" but i dont agree. glad you're not putting in too many details about asking whether you can or cannot ask to see someone's id. generally a no, but sometimes you gotta call BS. this is rare. no policy is better than bad policy.

tj: on must vs excellent. saying "it's excellent" but not requiring is just status quo. so the consensus item would be meaningless.

read bocolli's issues with proposal 1

brocolli doesnt consense. but why? steve tells us. he doesn't like broccoli doesn't like "must", likes "it is excellent". And to second is not appropriate (fine we already know this). Also add it is unexcellent to ask for vaccine card. broccoli doesn't think there is a "must" to it. strongly feel that it's not excellent to ask for vaccine card. Either way if they are not alloud if they are unvacccinated.

sophia: that sounds like a stronger version of steve's objection

steve: agrees. needs to be something in there that you cant ask for proof of official vaccine record. he wants to disallow the "must" clause.

dave: i dont think the distinction matters. why: we only have one rule. if something is not excellent you can't do it. therefore: excellent is must.

steve: this is genius. legal wrangling is the essence of NB

forget his name: this is all about keeping each other safe. as human beings we should be able to ask this. we should take someone at their word. dont want it to keep going around in circles. We are not polititions we are just trying to vcreate an exellent space. We are

relay: addendum. cannot use "should". however he said we explicitly can't check for vaccine records.

Fineline- There will probably be a time where the city will ask for us to check records

Sophia- most of the community thinks that you should be vaccinated to be in noisebridge

doba is a writer by trade. if its an issue with "must" being a rule and "its excellent to" isnt enough. then we could say "failure to raise the question of vaccine status is considered unexcellent"

Dave- I propose we give up on giving big C consensus tonight, as there still seems to be some people who might block

Sophia- I think there will be other people who might be against it if we delay it to long.

Dave: nothing is consensed. there is no consensus item that prohibits you from asking about vaccine card.

Dan- It is rare that we need big c concensus, but I think it is important when it protects yourself and others, and it will make the line less blury. ive been involved in 4 discussions with people who arent vaccinated. last one was with sophia. i would be happy to be like lol no sorry. if in the next 24h we get better language and put it in the wiki, it could pass next week. Words can be hard. if the vaccination status stuff becomes an issue that's fine. we're good at watching the watchpeople. good faith is good for doing this. dont like codifying excellence. we can take the must out.

conensus item: It is excellent to broach the subject of vaccination, either by pointing at the sign, or asking the person if they are vaccinated. If people are unvaccinated they must not be let inside without very good reason. It is unexcellent to ask for vaccine cards unless there is a strong reason.

Sophia- Asking about current members feelings. No present members block curren draft of the writing

dave: i regret to inflict more discussion upon everyone. another consensus item thats exactly the same but with a 90 day expiration limit.

Spohia- this new item also passes current members, and goes to next meeting

Discussion[edit]

Discussion Item 1 Big honking 3d printer[edit]

we could maybe do this. theres a big 3d printer brought to noisebridge, needs slight maintainence. everything else works. want to move it to NB. theres another makerspace that will take it.

Dave- We are in a serious

where is it now? At a noisebridgers house, but needs to move out.

Could we fix it in the noisebrdiger's house?

Pyconaut- Nope

TJ - Not a great sign, if the original owner can't even keep it.

Pyconaut- They have no time, to fix it, they have a job. THey have only put a few hours into theying to fix it sice they got it during the pandemic.

Pyconaut- 5 noisbridgers have all gone and seen it and they all think it would make sense for noisebridge to take it.

Pyconaut- It is a 200k printer that we would get for free.

Pyconaut- I already have an idea of where it can live

We've also been trying to consolidate bc space is an issue

Pyconaut- That is true, we have a lot of stuff we need to go through in the space

Pyconaut- I hope to come in soon and do some cleaning in the space.

If space is cleaned up and it is activly being worked on, there is general aggrement in bringing it to the space, and if it can't be fixed to get it out of the space just as fast.

Discussion Item 2 Trash[edit]

Discussion Item 3 idea for party thing[edit]

Social parties twice a year. And a raffel for goods and services. Classes as a raffel.

Cool idea people like it

Pyconaut- I am happy to help out, I ran a small virtual noisebridge party last year, and have helped out with noisebridge raffels before.

Discussion Item last: Guilds[edit]

Guilds are a neat abstract organization tool that Noisebridge can use. Lets talk about their potential online! discuss.noisebridge.info or https://discord.gg/GtpDdX5

Meeting = Done

NB Sophia literally dropped the mic at the end of the meeting...

Note taker posts the notes[edit]

  • Clean and tidy the meeting notes including removing all these really verbose instructions.
  • Fill out the short summary at the top listing just announcements, consensus items, discussion topics, and names of new members and philanthropists.
  • Copy paste the notes to the next meeting page. (They will become Last meeting at midnight.)
  • Email the meeting summary to Noisebridge Discuss and Noisebridge Announce lists.
  • CC on the email treasurer@noisebridge.net and secretary@noisebridge.net if there are new members and philanthropists.
  • Edit the Current Consensus Items if anything is proposed for consensus next week.
  • Edit the Consensus Items History if anything was reached consensus or failed to reach consensus this week.

Fun things to do after[edit]

  • Reprise of the Hackernationale. [This is anarchy - we do what the wiki says!]
  • PGP Key Signing could happen now (if it doesn't happen before any given Meeting). Ask others around the space or check the list to see who wants in on the action.
