Excellence[edit | edit source]

Our One Rule is to Be Excellent to Each Other.

Give tours to newbies, be a do-er, pick up after yourself, take a moment and think about how what you are doing is going to be received by others using the space. Mention when good things happen, positive reinforcement. A lot of people are hesitant bc maybe they think it comes across as bragging or something. Don't sweat it. People need to know other people are caring for noisebridge.

Short announcements and events[edit | edit source]

5MOF is Thursday! Please come by and invite people also! https://www.noisebridge.net/wiki/Five_Minutes_of_Fame

JD: I have taken on organizer Deviant Ollam talk in early March! Locks/security expert is coming to noisebridge to give a rad talk/workshop! More details to come soon soon! Event cap 40 Deviant folks, max 10 noisebridge folks

Mark - Sooner than early March, January 30th to be exact, Global Game Jam will be starting! I am trying to organize a talk and food/drinks for that day. Full event goes Feb 5th. There will a closing ceremony that day as well.

Musicubes show still scheduled for Feb 17th, 6PM. Talk to music guild if interested in helping out!

Guilds[edit | edit source]

  • What are guilds - briefly describe (much like the previous section on "Excellence")

-interest groups at noisebridge, in various state sof existanct, to form, make group with people and do it, no rules, need group, manage resources, guild channels

New Members/Associate Members[edit | edit source]

What are they? Is anyone trying to become a Member or Associate Member? If not move on. No long discussions.

-Associate M = 24 hour access (need members), need member sponsor -Big M = concensus decisions

Financial Report[edit | edit source]

Anarchist societies under a capitalist state need money to survive and thrive, yo.

Companies match dontations and you can have company donate Paypal => savings account

We got some year-end checks totalling like $5k. (IDK exactly what this means? Is it companies doing the donation matching?)

Venmo gave us $1315 from tthe last 3 months.

Looking into setting up savings account still.

Spending Needs[edit | edit source]

Gotta spend money on XYZ (i.e. Gate, wiring etc.). WHO CAN SIGN THE CHECK OR LEND THE CREDIT CARD!?!?! It doesn't matter if we agree to do something and it can’t be paid for.

Fundraising Update[edit | edit source]

See discussion for brainstorming ideas about fundraising

Big C Consensus Items[edit | edit source]

Nobody likes 3 hour meetings, only explain if people ask. https://www.noisebridge.net/wiki/Current_Consensus_Items

Consensus Items [edit | edit source]

Only for talking about Big C consensus items, small c consensus items should be discussed with people at the space at the time of the change/new item. No consensus items

Discussion[edit | edit source]

Discussion Item 1 Engagement/Advertising/Fundraising[edit | edit source]

Melody's comments from earlier, more or less (Recognize people for their contributions to the space) (Put out calls for the activities you want to see more of in the space)

(Host workshops/teaching! & request donations!)

Let's make use of a video recording setup to do more promotion? Set up a recording studio?

Melody: Maybe put it in a more visible place in the space so it is very welcoming to random people, and ainviting so people maybe want to hop in on conversations that are happening.

Record your classes! We need to show the world what we are doing!

On the subject of classes, lets try to make sure people who attend have things to show for their effort/attendance.

Mark: There is also all the project channels. They seem to be sporadically used at best.

Melody: The real value here is in collaborating with others who are subject matter experts in places one needs help.

Mark: Here's like a case study. Claw machine project--started up spontaneously (do-ocracy attitude is great, but organizing these types of projects is hard, and everybody uses NB in different ways). TLDR, people have a hard type finding projects to participate in, possibly because they are poorly organized.

Melody: We don't want to stifle anyone's creativity.

Farley: They are trying to build a business idea. That may be why they aren't being over-intviting of others to join in with them.

Melody: Ahmed's arm band project is a good candidate for receiving press/promotion/monetary help, etc...

Mark: I'll try to connect you with Nthmost who is writing about noisebridge/hackerspace history.

Melody: There are opportunities with hackerspaces like this to create community and support potential founders. Having more organization could help support people. Can we figure out a way to funnel people towards the right support system in NB, pending on people's needs/interests?

Mark/Jeremy: We have tried this in the past, but difficult to find a system that sticks and is sustainable. Guilds could be a vessel for this type of support, that is still within the current framework of NB.

Sterling - wondering is anyone here in music /electronics guilds?

Mark - I am games guild. Check out those guilds' channels in discord and try to connect with those folks there!

Melody: Perhaps there is opportunity for more communication with other makerspaces/hackerspaces around the world.

Mark: We have to find ways to use the space more efficiently. We have a lot of people using the space, but perhaps not enough giving back.

Melody: We should keep experimenting and trying out new things to see what sticks.

Mark: We need a core group of people committed to maintaining things to make this work.

Jeremy: It is hard to discover the cool stuff that is happening at NB. Example is the AI computer on the 2nd floor. Recommendation: Use a piece of paper and post it on the object in NB.

Melody: There may be opportunities to give new people clear-er paths forward to help them along with their goals/projects.

Do-ocratic Task Board[edit | edit source]

Participation also means doing stuff to contribute to the space. Propose new tasks or pick some tasks from Github, from what needs to be done around you, or whatever, and see if someone will sign up to work on that task. Anyone can sign up and it's a great way to show you are contributing!

End of Meeting[edit | edit source]
