TJ - From my meetup (@seabream on Discord):

"I am hosting a show this week called Minnow Bowl. It's like Shark Tank but super low stakes.

We are looking for people to pitch on stage if anyone has something they would like to get in front of an audience. Could be a hack or gadget you'd like to buy or whatever." More info: it's Friday at 7pm at a theatre called pianofight. link is here https://www.eventbrite.com/e/leela-improv-show-tickets-525331319117 . Includes Minnow bowl and two awesome improv show

Selchuk - Geometry meetup, thinking potentially wednesdays 6:30-8:30, keep an eye out!

Excellence[edit | edit source]

Our One Rule is to Be Excellent to Each Other.

Moof - Excellence is treating the space a sa place where the community has boundaries and where the people in the space have boundaries, taking the initiative to understand and respect those boundaries.

Vuke - Follow the Golden Rule, wrt people and the space itself.

Guilds[edit | edit source]

  • What are guilds - briefly describe (much like the previous section on "Excellence")

Mark-Lack of hierarchy means hard to get done Guilds solve this by being self-organizing sub units within Noisebridge Like a user / interest group Group of people who maintain resources or events

Possibly writing a discord bot to archive guilds that are inactive for more than said amount of days.

New Members/Associate Members[edit | edit source]

What are they? Is anyone trying to become a Member or Associate Member? If not move on. No long discussions.

Associate - come to one week, get one Member to vouch Member - Be Associate Member for four weeks, get 1 more Member to vouch for you

Financial Report[edit | edit source]

Not dicussed however:

Generally losing money, but have a couple years' runway

Spending Needs[edit | edit source]

Gotta spend money on XYZ (i.e. Gate, wiring etc.). WHO CAN SIGN THE CHECK OR LEND THE CREDIT CARD!?!?! It doesn't matter if we agree to do something and it can’t be paid for.

Fundraising Update[edit | edit source]

How's it all going

Big C Consensus Items[edit | edit source]

Nobody likes 3 hour meetings, only explain if people ask. https://www.noisebridge.net/wiki/Current_Consensus_Items

Consensus Items [edit | edit source]

Only for talking about Big C consensus items, small c consensus items should be discussed with people at the space at the time of the change/new item.

= Consensus Item 0 = Tossing Items that are valuable (ie: Connex printer, Last weeks meeting)

TJ - financial value isnt only measure of value

J - replacement time and energy is a factor in value

Corey - was this a doocratic hiccup or was there discussion about removing the item beforehand

tj- There was a miscommunication in private slack discussions between the maintainors and the people trying to throw away the connex printer.

Vuke - I read from the notes an example of something worth 20k being a threshold, i think it should be WAY lower.

Loren - I'm of the opinion this is not a real solution for moving forward. It'll just give people more a felt sense of authority, when complaining about the same issue *when* it reoccurs.

Moof - I've probably been talking with Magnet the most the last couple weeks about this. They said there was no miscommunication in private channels and that they never said that they were done with the connex. To Loren: I agree this consensus item is not a solution to the problem. I dont think "expensive" is the right metric. What ultimately matters is time spent, work invested and community that formed around the project/idea. It was supposed to be more than just magnet's tool. It was a thing meant for the community. Community tools is a big thing that should be covered.

Corey - I am specifically here today to talk about input and ouput of the space. I want to remove stuff from the space quarterly. I do hope this helps promote moving items out, and the regular cadence will help alleviate these doocratic hiccups. One way to prevent these hiccups it to have an area where items go - "limbolandia". So that people have a chance to check on items.

Vuke - I agree, however for instance in the case of the connex, there were signs on it, and they just simply got ignored.

Corey - something about the visibility of outflow will probably change cultural psychology in an important way making these kinds of things much less likely to happen without oversight

Max - agree

Loren - I am expressing opinions—I imagine myself as speaking for/o behalf of the machine of noisebridge, speaking descriptively, about how the woodchipper acts.

When people don't check in—publicly—for nearly half a year. It's indistinguishable from an abandoned project. I really like magnet, I really want them to participate in the space, I really like the efforts put in, but the problem we have is piles of abandoned projects—that's what cleaners are trying to solve. You can yell at them, but I don't expect different results from a yelling or "consensus items"

Moof - (gives more context about the connex project. explains how magnet was active but got kind of burnt out and happened to have a bit of a time lapse. no one checked with Magnet about their project)

Guy-Agrees with the idea of limbo land before items are thrown out.

Maybe put red notes on items meant for purging. Change color as time goes on...?

TJ- a lot of discussion items (7 not including this one) We need a public discussion of items above a certain threshold (regardless of what that threshod might be)

Mark(host)- Blocking this discussion item as "Items that can not be staged for removal in limbolandia should be discussed and consensed for removal"

(Magnet appears) - Clarifies the story. Was not contacted at all about removal of item in question. Maybe my comments about taking a break from working on the machine were misinterpreted to mean I was abandoning the project. I am mostly just upset that the people involved haven't come forward to me and apologized.

"Thank you Magnet for speaking" -everyone

Discussion Item 1[edit | edit source]

Re overnight changes (i.e. tags in Noisebridge) that may not be Excellent

moof - i have generally been FOR tagging the music room and like it as a designated casual tag space.

Mark - Do we need to police this, given anarchy. People think it's unexcellent, people who think that way are the majority, but does anyone hold the opposing opinion

Vuke - more upset that person left all lights on than tagging the space. Not icky 3 rules:

   Be Excellent to everyone
   No pics
Paint the walls purple, you can do that

Sam - Just wanted to shoutout the art on the front door. Dorothy is a great piece. That artist would be happy to cover the entire first floor of NB if we provide materials!

Moof - I'd be interested!

TJ - What im seeing is a lot of noisebridge "back and forth" doocratic action that isn't fully consensed on and gets undone

Loren - "Either we try things, or we always seek permission. Where’s the safe, reasonable shared cutoff "

Max- kind of in the same vein of thought as TJ. how much do we care about the intention of the person who does something we don't like? what if they really thought what they were doing is nice.

Mark- Discussion approval is really nice, not always going to happen. You can get small c concencuss from a group of noisebridgers but not everyone for any given thing. As long as the changes are publically annouced there should not be any issues as you can talk to the person/persons that made that change. The excellent thing would be to communicate.

selchuk - If person wants something permanent, they can post it and get approval. Then they cannot be sad it got painted over.

TJ- agrees with mark and selchuk

Discussion Item 2[edit | edit source]

Security measures for 3D printing room (see item 5 as well) / AI computers / Other things

2 saturdays ago, stuff was stolen from 3d printing room. same night the recent drama happened Pi was gone within 15 minutes that Guy left the area. Given tools around the area, chalked up to pure theft Door installed in front of print shop. Maybe we should lock in when events are going on?

Controversial reaction to camera proposal, Locks Potential solutions: Cameras at the space, Locks on doors, Passwords on printers

Mark - locking stuff could be annoying

Corey - cameras just creates a record of being here, which is antithetical to our mission. people would start really avoiding the space

TJ - I dont see having a padlock or something as antithetical. There are locks all around the space. see: lockers. You can still be anonymous when you unlock a lock.

Vuke - I agree with locks being a good thing. Cameras and access keys are a completely difft. ballpark. We don't want to log peoples' activity.

Max -I dont mind cams but I get why people don't want them. I like kind of like the front gate where there is a minimal barrier, where ppl know the code, but its simple enough to get in and out of.

Vuke - A certain friend was saying how adding locks to the spaces would add that extra bit a visibility that people care and maintain things in the space. Does something to our psychology.

Mark - We should roll our own locking systems as guilds. Use your own discretion in how/what you should lock away.

TJ - I might call for help in creating an enclosure of some sort for the AI machine(s)

Discussion Item 3[edit | edit source]

Wood shop changes (re @mjo)

I would like to host a course on building cutting boards. Simple introduction for ppl who want to get into woodworking. I feel a couple things need to happen first.

1. The shop is rather dangerous at times due to lack of maintenance/cleaning.

2. Project ownership. There are lots of abandoned seeming projects. Hard to know exactly what to do with them. Had mixed-to-bad success with reaching out to folks.

I need to clear out space.

Mark - Parking tickets. https://www.noisebridge.net/wiki/File:NB_ParkingTicket.pdf Once they expire, start throwing shit out.

Document what you are about to throw out. Take a pic of your parking ticket and post it online publicly so people know and have a chance to see.

Max - we also need a dust filter mounted to the wall. We have one under the table saw, but it is in not the best location. These run about $200 (Go to #finance-wg on Slack for financial proposal)

Mark - points to hackitorium shelf. This is purge shelf as far as i'm concerned. Anything not labeled there should be thron out.

Discussion Item 4[edit | edit source]

Overflowing trash / Trash bins being filled with bulky items

Max - rrmutt took the trash on Monday, they said the bins were overflowing. Maybe we need bigger/more bins. I said maybe we can encourage people who have big bulky items to take them with them rather than throw them out at NB.

Mark - The theory was in mind that someone threw something that took a lot of space, preventing regular items from being thrown away. ex. half broken scooter

Max: From discord discussion, yes. It wasn't one time. Huge chunks of laser cut material, hard to put into trash. Becomes tight fit vs. throwing it on top (which will lead to trash pileup) Perhaps more signs showing excellence procedures for trash-filling.

Mark: signs exist, they arent followed all that well.

Sam :$7 per grey bin Sam :let's get 3 more

Discussion Item 5[edit | edit source]

Adding / removing items re @coreyfro

Corey - I'mma be here next 4 weeks of meetings. Already talked to ppl about it. But opening it up for discussion and for ppl to get an opportunity to add their input so we can refine whatever the process is:

We want a QUARTERLY REMOVAL OF CRAP.

You could imagine/expect potentially 4-5 refrigerators worth of stuff leaving NB on a periodic basis. I've offered my own preconceived ideas about how we could do this and will go over again briefly:

preceeding the extraction, 3 weeks of "limbolandia". staging area for items volunteered to be thrown into the void. I think its a safe way to remove the item. I can contribute $0 towards disposal, like I normally contribute anyway, but would love it if NB could foot the rest of the bill and manage the conversation with the waste disposal ppl.

I think this will help the overall health of NB.

Max -first of all, thank you for offering, I think this is really valuable. All these ideas of parking tickets/purge shelf/limbo land needs clarification and consistency. Maybe change how the parking ticket system works so it lines up with the regular truck haul or something.

Loren - I think we should also attach a review to the meeting as part of the process.

Corey - I intend to attend meetings more regularly and would certainly attend meetings preceeding the removal.

Loren - I think like a once a month cadence for item cleaning/fincance stuff is a healthy frequency.

Max - notices should be posted that pickup week is upcoming

Mark - Concerned about cadence overlap.

Loren - Part of the meeting could be about confirming ownership of things.

Mark - That's like more of a "go around the space and check it" day of work rather than a meeting agenda thing to me.

Mark/Loren - maybe we are making it a point to just bring notes about things discovered to these meetings

Loren - could also be an opportunity to share stuff online about the cool things we do/projects we work on

Do-ocratic Task Board[edit | edit source]

Participation also means doing stuff to contribute to the space. Propose new tasks or pick some tasks from Github, from what needs to be done around you, or whatever, and see if someone will sign up to work on that task. Anyone can sign up and it's a great way to show you are contributing!

End of Meeting[edit | edit source]
