Introductions[edit | edit source]

Corey (he/him) - I build robots and teach ppl how to. Doing a dump run this weekend! Taking all the stuff from "limbolandia" behind the FlaschenTaschen!

Alex - old NBer, corporate serf by day, interested in music, and making all kinds of stuff!

Lauren - work in AI research

Logan - been in SF for like 3 months! Just moved from PA, so this is super cool to me! I like to draw

Michael (he/him) - been in SF for like 4 months! Came to NB for Hack Comedy first time, had a lot of fun!

Sam - been coming to NB for like 6 months. Unreal Engine class on Thursdays. Also been messing with CNC milling.

Mark - does video game stuff, does VR stuff, runs a cabal of space mantainers(keep this hush-hush, wink-wink). Has been around NB way too long - needs a break.

JD - one of the laser cutter trainers (come in and get trained on sundays). Also has been working w/ Sam on CNC stuff. Would like to do safety training on powertools/welders/etc - talk to me to get trained if you'd like. Working on stencils for more art!

Daniel - bioengineer, hacking stuff, working on the payphone up front, trying to make it actually work as a phone!

Sasha - live in Mission. do mostly AI and software engineering stuff for the last decade. Loved the Stupid Hackathon in the past. Would love to bring it back!

Ronald - I like building Robots, websites and games

Elan - I like Wikipedia, robots, language models, and spraypainting things!

Short announcements and events[edit | edit source]

Fix-it Fridays[edit | edit source]

Fix-it Fridays! I was hoping to revive the Fixit Clinic event[1] as Fix-it-Fridays which I think might make for a fun introduction to Noisebridge (and provide a nice community service). There's a guide[2] to hosting these events and I think the main issue will be finding coaches/hosts 1: https://www.meetup.com/noisebridge/events/244988125/ 2: https://fixitclinic.blogspot.com/p/start-one_13.html

bikes/skateboards, clothing/fabrics, computers+phones, toys and wooden things, appliances, etc

If interested reach out to elan on discord(Lané)/slack(ElanHR)

Message #weekly-meeting

Starting a locker refresh[edit | edit source]

Would make an announcement and put a flag on/in people's lockers asking them to make an announcement on a #locker-checkin channel on slack/discord. For lockers that are not claimed in a month we would make them available for locker-less hackers.

Fundraising Update[edit | edit source]

Not much anything to report this week.

Big C Consensus Items[edit | edit source]

Nobody likes 3 hour meetings, only explain if people ask. https://www.noisebridge.net/wiki/Current_Consensus_Items

Consensus Items [edit | edit source]

Only for talking about Big C consensus items, small c consensus items should be discussed with people at the space at the time of the change/new item.

Proposal by Dana for better meeting structure[edit | edit source]

https://www.noisebridge.net/wiki/Noisebridge_Meeting_Restructure_Proposal Short meeting format: https://pad.riseup.net/p/NNZ_rkRuJcm1pQGAugw_

Mark has questions about the language. What does proponent mean? Someone arguing for the proposal rather than against. Which meeting per month would be a full meeting? Mark has no issues

Does it make sense to dip a toe with this? This was set up due to a lot of lazy people not wanting to have to track it

Farley - weird this is brought up as a consensus item. We should informally try it for a meeting and see if it works,. This change is also subject to revision.

Mark - note that it does raise the barrier to entry for meeting moderators

Elan - We should try to get consensus on things before the meeting in question and have discussions of things beforehand as well. Discussions can take time and also may be relevant to people who dont come to meeting(s) in question.

Anybody block or have more comments or questions?

  • crickets*

And there was much rejoicing. HOORAY!

Discussion[edit | edit source]

Proposal by Michael for an AI safety event[edit | edit source]

Michael is interested in hosting a researcher from UC Berkeley (Alex Pan) to give a presentation on a recent paper measuring power-seeking in language models. Plan is to have free pizza and discussion afterwards! Fairly flexible on time – will look for a weekday evening in the next month with no conflicts. (Wednesday and Thursday evening were suggested)

Michael will talk with Farley about Meetup, and Jams about potential of doing it w/ the regular AI meetup group

Proposal by Sasha to bring :Stupid Hacks Nobody Needs: back[edit | edit source]

Sasha is interested in hosting a "Stupid Hacks Nobody Needs" hackathon at Noisebridge. She got a few people from Twitter who are interested in helping with co-organizing. Trying to see if we could get it running on a Sunday (potentially April 30th or May 7th). She is wondering if Noisebridge would be interested to be the venue space for this.

(Recommendations to get Sasha in Discord to talk w/ ppl to coordinate)

Discussion Item 4[edit | edit source]

Membership sponsorship (Mark's discussion item)

Hoping this can be quick - Unclear of the general feeling. Associate members may sponsor others for associate membership. Probably at least one Big M Member should have to sponsor someone for big M Membership. Possibly two?

We should probably acknowledge the heirarchy - no one should probably be able to sponsor someone into a higher level than they themselves are at.

Maybe could be more involved where an member signs off on visible demonstration of excellent acts or whatever. More work than simply signing on a piece of paper.

Corey - we are a community of people - there are lots of members, lots of ass(ociate) members. I dont think its really that restrictive to ask for 2 Member sigs. Its not that big a threshold.

Dan - I think just having that one little extra barrier could dissuade ppl. Its more of a check on ppl trying to fastrack their Membership too much.

Logan asks question about what kind of powers members have that could be potentially destructive and how blocks work.

End of Meeting[edit | edit source]
