Our One Rule is to Be Excellent to Each Other.

(What does that mean? Please see our page on excellence https://www.noisebridge.net/wiki/Excellence!

Everyone is expected to follow the Anti-Harassment Policy, please familiarize yourself with it.) TWO MINUTES MAX

Loren: Our one rule is to be excellent to each other. This is occasionally a point of conflict. Check out our anti-harassment policy.

Steve: Should ask others as a mediator. It's good to keep in mind that others may have strong opionions that will clash. It it excellent to assume positive intent.

Guilds[edit | edit source]

  • What are guilds - briefly describe (much like the previous section on "Excellence")

There are a lot of sub-communities within Noisebridge.

Games Guild[edit | edit source]

No updates for the next few weeks due to new

Woodworksing Guild[edit | edit source]

In the process of organizing space. How can we get a soundwall built. Does this need rezoning/what is necessary for code compliance

CNC Guild[edit | edit source]

Sam has trained two members on the Roland. Getting active. Feel free to ask JD/Sam to get trained

New Members/Associate Members[edit | edit source]

What are they? Is anyone trying to become a Member or Associate Member? If not move on. No long discussions.

Financial Report[edit | edit source]

Anarchist societies under a capitalist state need money to survive and thrive, yo.

expenses: 12k revenue: ~8k

Spending Needs[edit | edit source]

Noise wall for Woodshop will cost money. Currently putting together proposal (check out cabal on discord)

  • Fundraising through Guest party?
    • Evening event
    • Previous/precedent: GodWaffleNoisePancakes, morning

Big C Consensus Items[edit | edit source]

Nobody likes 3 hour meetings, only explain if people ask. https://www.noisebridge.net/wiki/Current_Consensus_Items

Consensus Items [edit | edit source]

Only for talking about Big C consensus items, small c consensus items should be discussed with people at the space at the time of the change/new item.

Discussion[edit | edit source]

Discussion Item 1: AHP and CoC updates and revisions[edit | edit source]

https://docs.google.com/document/d/14BlMYh-i1CbzUGj_AaqaF-YI2sL4WNokhJxEbev0G-U/edit#heading=h.mt44158ux3ii

Why removal of 2nd paragraph? - a lot of discussion - "racism is power plus/times privelege"

More context, previous language, updates:

Also added description of reporting process.

Discussion Item 2: Farley's Proposed Consensus Changes[edit | edit source]

@mark It is proposed that requiring 2 members, or a percentage of members, for a block to happen.

Steve: There were previously proposed drastic changes to concesus process.

Mark: Those changes passed. Many more people have become associate members. Not that many have followed through and applied for full big M membership.

Steve: I don't think it should chance and it is hard to become a membership for a reason.

It's hard to become a member, and that's good. Group think can happen and we should allow for

Elan: You brought up a good point that Membership currently has a lot of power. I thin require multiple people, even if its just two, then that is no longer quite as much power, then there is less risk of greatly growing big M Membership numbers. Less power per Member == less reason for anyone in particular to block someone else becoming a member. No wild contrarians basically?

Loren: Is not sure what thing this change accomplishes/what is the intent. Noisebridge is a carefully balanced state. I think meeting consensus blocking policy is a formal _reflection_ of how the space works in fact or in practice. if not everyone at the meeting is willing to enforce it, we get to have exactly the same discussions, but we also fight for a Mandate of Meeting. Current "encouraging excellence" changes to "enforcing [other's] new policy", which doesn't seem like an improvement to me.

Ken: This brought to mind power to veto about power in the UN. Foreign minister of a facist country can attend. When veto is given to a single person this can cause issue. Loren: blocks by multiple associate members? (response: no, they're way too loosely admitted).

Ken: Spoke to a noisebridge who said they were an associate member. Why can't membership be put on pause. Longtime non-contributing members.

Loren: "It's not worth creating rules just to have hackers figure out how to skirt around them."

Steve: Naiively I'm thinking that Farley has seen a problem where a single member has caused a ruckus. What is this a response to?

Mark: Yes there has been some head-butting on various issues. - Graffiti. Justin being a contrarian.

JD: Nothing about us without us. In a flat hierarchy no decision would affect the others without them consenting to it.

Loren: One variant is that blocking is a signal that you would be willing to walk away from the group over. Policy isn't meaningful if it isn't enforced. If you aren't consensed on it, then it is just us doing wordplay as a group.

Mark: It is generally impressed upon new Members that blocking shouldn't be seen as a veto as much as an attempt to continue discussion (not "No" but "Not yet")

Loren: This should be put on membership page. Ken: Creativity over Procedure. Loren: It would be nice to have a broader discussion on these with votes and vibe check ideas. see wiki page: "Tending the Commons": https://www.noisebridge.net/wiki/User:Mcint/TendingTheCommons

Discussion Item 3: Membership software?[edit | edit source]

https://doubleunion.org/ https://github.com/doubleunion/arooo

Elan: membership records are mess, amalgamation of lost... there was an old membership binder, there's a new one

Looking for vibe check to see if anyone is philosophically opposed to a public-ish record in some form.

Looking to get a digital record-keeping system in place.

Steve: membership is secret.

E: There are members under a nym. Their identity is kept secret, and the way they give money to treasurer is kind of manual.

Steve: would be nice to keep the anonymity of Members, especially those who without that would stop paying

E: I don't think this would at all stop the anonymous membership option

JD: Does this cover who has access to the space? E: Yes, they currently track which members have keys.

Discussion Item 4: Space Security?[edit | edit source]

Elan: Previously authorized up to $1,400 in spending to make an ADA compliant entrance. Maybe needs re-upping/expansion to $2000?. Someone should be in-charge of reaching out to people (i.e. contractors) if no one else does. I will maybe if she doesn't soon.

JD: Mark asked me to look at back door but did some research and the simplest thing to do would be electric door strike with press to exit. Defaulting to open in power outage.

Recomend something that is code compliant at recomended height. JD: That doesn't sound code compliant for public building. Landlord should pay for or at least kick in some cash help.

Mark: Wanted to ask about idea of locking up the space late at night to everyone aside from members.

Max: For closing the space but want to clarify when it would be open.

Ken: Support that there are clearly deliniated hours for associate members. This also encourages others to become big-M membership.

Elan: If the goal is to discourage people living out the space I think we should also have big-M members.

Mark: Goal is to allow for better supervision of the space.

Elan: It sounds like most people are in favor of this. What time

Collin: Was in at 10am. Like 9am when no one else is around. It would be nice to have a policy that is accomodating to early birds.

Loren: What hours would we want to

Mark: Looking into SHED at the moment.

Max: Can Members still give 24h access? Elan: I don't think this is used and possibly lost institutional knowledge.

Ken: I am most productive at night and would be negatively affected. This is my motivation for Membership.

Sam: Is for this as long as it is temporary

Do-ocratic Task Board[edit | edit source]

  • Let's pick up downstairs. To hack shelves, to
