Loren: During the reboot I started up pol-is, for getting concensus. I want to see if we can get useful questions answered using this. If this goes well, it could be useful for taking the temperature of ideas. Check the weekly meeting channel
Moof- Noisebridge Radio will be happening from the music room on May 9th, Thursday, 7:00PM
Elle- I would like to restart the AI meeting-- I met with a woman who has a noisebridge connection, and she and I are interested in having discussions on AI- This will happen on May 8th at noisebridge, with a follow up on May 22nd at Sudo Room.
Elle- Stellar foundation offered us a small grant- funding a party. Wyatt and I are working it out. It would possibly fund the 15th anniversary party, with around 10,000. We have an initial budget set out. If you want in on that conversation, let me or wyatt know.
Elan- FIRST SUCCESSFUL SPACEBRIDGE MISSION!!!! - we recovered avionics from a weatherballon, so we can use that for a launch! - Spacebridge is Sunday, at 5:00
Excellence[edit | edit source]
Our One Rule is to Be Excellent to Each Other. (Give a quick, 1-3 sentence summary.)
What does that mean? Please see our page on excellence https://www.noisebridge.net/wiki/Excellence!
Izzy- Excellence is "no slaves no gods no masters, meat is murder, DIY or die" Elle- Excellence requires both patience and impatience. you have to be patient with things that you cannot change- People. You also have to be impatient with things that are broken, not working, a mess. You have to be willing to fix systems, machinery, clothing, in order to make things better
Julius- Excellence means consistency, pushing forward, maintaining momentum, putting in the work over time
Wheezy- Excellence is being REALLY GOOD!
Moof- Excellence is like a SNOWBALL !!
Anti-Harassment Policy & Community Standards of Excellence[edit | edit source]
Noisebridge has an Anti-Harassment Policy https://www.noisebridge.net/wiki/Anti-Harassment_Policy Everyone is expected to follow the Anti-Harassment Policy, please familiarize yourself with it.) More approachable & specific guidelines, https://www.noisebridge.net/wiki/Community_Standards https://safespace.noisebridge.net/ is one way to quickly raise issues which will be seen by people in Slack.
Brief Kudos[edit | edit source]
Recent examples of excellent behavior, say 3, unless the passion moves you. Kudos to ELAN for making space bridge happen by driving to tracy Kudos to israel for cleaning up earlier Kudos to a mystery person for sweeping and cleaning up the front area Kudos to the reboot crew-- Its wonderful to see painted fire escapes, clear hallways, clean new floors! Wonderful wonderful! Kudos to whoever put up the harassment barcode- they should be in Kudos to ken for painting the floor upstairs, and to JD for painting the wheelchair access corridors Kudos to mark for planning Saturday cleanups- it made a difference
Big C Consensus Items[edit | edit source]
Nobody likes 3 hour meetings, only explain if new people are present. https://www.noisebridge.net/wiki/Current_Consensus_Items
Consensus Items [edit | edit source]
Only for talking about Big C consensus items, small c consensus items should be discussed with people at the space at the time of the change/new item or can be reserved for the discussion section of the meeting.
Discussion Items[edit | edit source]
It is recommended to post items for discussion ahead of time at https://pad.riseup.net/p/nbmeeting. (Check that the template for the meeting is in place already, and that last week's notes have been moved to the wiki, of course)
Item prompts should follow the format: From/Raised by: [your name here] Seeking [decision/outcome/advice/something else] On topic: [topic]
Discussion Item 1[edit | edit source]
From/Raised by: Elle Seeking Funding On topic: Sewing room materials Elle: Sewing needs a couple thousand in order to repair and maintain resources- The cutting table is unusable for cutting delicate fabrics. The sewing room needs a bit of love. I have put together a doc listing items we need and will be sharing it with the room and its users but there are some purchases necessary that would total around 1.5k. The room will be better able to have classes and events after these investments so they could pay for themselves in a matter of weeks! Sewing may be able to sell 2 items to make space for more. Doing so may help to pay for necessary additions. lacking a guild at this time, I would like to survey the 10 people most active in the room for their consensus before moving forward on purchases and sales but would like the approval of the members to take these steps. Would like to purchase items before our big ticket class, sewing lingerie for every gender and every body, which we would like to schedule for next month.
Loren: we passed consensus on being willing to spend a certain amount- This is the same process we would do anyways, its nice to have some more guild buy in.
Elle: There are so many dedicated people who make purchases individually- Loren, I don't think you have gotten any of these receipts. Our classes average about $100 per. We want to do a high dollar class that would involve very delicate fabrics, but we cannot because the cutting table has reached the end of its lifespan. Anybody who has used the sewing room has used it. It is the most used tool in the sewing room-- Its hard to find that big of an open space for cutting fabric, cutting patterns, cutting *things*. The high end class would pay for its self if 3 people showed up. We also have some machines that have gone missing-
There was a cri-cut cutter (similar to laser but uses a blade, lower tech but exponentially cheaper). It etches, cuts leather, paper, acrylic, can cut some metals, can cut plastics that the laser would produce toxic smoke. I highly recommend getting a cricket- the last one we had was stolen.
We need a cover stitch machine- I can go into details why, if interested
Izzy: what are we doing to mitigate the problem?
Elle: we are going to put trackers (like air tags) on the portable machines that are reasonable enough to be taken out. I am looking to get a donation from a company.
Elan: if things are not supposed to move, we should make it so that they cannot move
Elle: the cricket will have its own table, and I talked to ken about having the cover-stitch installed in its own counter
Julius: would locking the domestics down work?
Elle: The problem is if someone is in the sewing room for several hours, there are very few chains you cant work off a machine. For classes, moving the machines around is very helpful.
Loren: you mentioned that machines have gone missing- do we have an inventory that someone who isn't involved in sewing can verify? can we keep one on the wiki?
Julius: the inventory is in process- its an 80/20 thing- figuring out the long tail will take a while
Loren: Do you think having a separate, removable work surface that could stay good for the finer things for longer makes sense?
Elle: The removable work surfaces are relatively small- If you are going to be cutting 5 yards worth of material, 8 feet is really useful! Frankly, with the cost of that particular item, its relatively low.
Loren: I would encourage us to get a hot spare- even if its so that you dont have to wait for a replacement in the future.
Elle: The sewing cabinet is ready for donation- I am wrapping it up so that it doesn't break. If anyone can help bring it over, it is an accessible sewing cabinet that will go in the downstairs hackitorium
Loren: I might be able to do it
Elle: its pretty heavy and has a lot of moving parts. It is 34 inches by 22. It has two doors that open that have been ratcheted down
Elan- I might be able to do it over the weekend
Loren: I might be able to do it tomorrow.
Julius: I see a second serger, skylight opener with remote
Elle: The skylight- it gets so hot in there, so when im teaching around I always have to take off layers. Opening up the skylight is impossible, I was researching the cost of an electric opener. An electric latch was available at a similar price point to a handheld.
Loren: I feel comfortable with this- unless anyone has any objections
Discussion Item 2[edit | edit source]
From/Raised by: Elan Seeking Discussion On topic: Noisebridge API
Elan: I started a thread on discord. The idea is that we have a lot of tasks that require going to a lot of weird places. It would be nice to have a web form. The other things are creating consensus items, making sure notes are arranged and linked properly. It would be nice for, if the space is closed, to be able to edit that from home. It would be fun to make access to the flaschen taschen easier
Julius: It would be nice to set a source of tools- Do you have any technologies to use?
Elan: I have been playing around with python scripts. I have oauth set up. It would be cool to be able to remotely control the lights. Even if you are physically here, its annoying to turn off
Elan: it would be nice to say "here is a folder of scripts that make stuff easier for folx, lets put it all in one place
Israel: my recommendation is for the API to be structured in JSON, there are ways to do functions?
Elan: i just copied the hello world examples
Nathan: I am kind of interested in that- it would be fun to do.
Elan: check out the channel in the working group-- let me see if I can rename it. I will post a link in the meeting notes
Elan: Server feedback forum- Noisebridge API in the discord.
- Noisebridge API channel: https://discord.com/channels/720514857094348840/1227818957713444915
Julius: security is a big concern- some things should only be accessible from the space
Elan: It seems like the sprinkler system has been approved-- Ken is talking to the person- as soon as we can give a downpayment the work will start
Loren: I remember we rejected the first 1.5 k bid- did we approve funding?
Do-ocratic Task Board[edit | edit source]
Participation also means doing stuff to contribute to the space. Propose new tasks or pick some tasks from Github, from what needs to be done around you, or whatever, and see if someone will sign up to work on that task. Anyone can sign up and it's a great way to show you are contributing!
