ExcellenceEdit
Our One Rule is to Be Excellent to Each Other. (On first Tuesdays, seek a few definitions. Other Tuesday, give a 1-3 sentence summary.)
Mark: Being excellent is fixing the out column on FT (Doacracy). Elle: Being excellent requires intent. (Heart in the right place)
What does that mean? Please see our page on excellence https://www.noisebridge.net/wiki/Excellence!
Anti-Harassment Policy & Community Standards of ExcellenceEdit
Noisebridge has an Anti-Harassment Policy https://www.noisebridge.net/wiki/Anti-Harassment_Policy Everyone is expected to follow the Anti-Harassment Policy, please familiarize yourself with it.) TWO MINUTES MAX More approachable & specific guidelines, https://www.noisebridge.net/wiki/Community_Standards https://safespace.noisebridge.net/ is one way to quickly raise issues which will be seen by people in Slack.
Brief KudosEdit
Recent examples of excellent behavior, say 3, unless the passion moves you.
Elle: Kudos to jet and trevor for trying food we may bring to sweet 16. Mark: to ron, ken and brian for wall Julius to Ron for improving fire exits.
Zoning, Permitting, & Improvements -- Standing ItemEdit
Status this week? Helpful broad asks to the community? NB city bureaucracy WG -- JD & Alice, among others.
Drywall inspection this morning - loved it.
Not gonna have him back till its time for Final inspecition.
Engineers tell me they'll get mech drawings to us by end of week hopefully.
Electrician has run stuff right up to wall of shop. Waiting for tape and mud to be up there before finishing wiring up that area. Hopefully the mechanical stuff will be at a state where he can know how the electric should go by then.
If the engineer can convince the city that our exhaust is low enough density of particulate, then we only need to be 10ft away from property line, as opposed to 30 ft, which would be harder.
The moment we get engineering drawings, I'm heading down to building dept for the permit. The second we get the permit, we go up to enforcement on floor 4 to request the 30 day extension for compliance since we won't get the work done RIGHT AWAY.
GuildsEdit
- What are guilds - briefly describe (much like the previous section on "Excellence")
New Members/Associate MembersEdit
What are they? Is anyone trying to become a Member or Associate Member? If not move on. No long discussions.
Julius: I might go for big M. I would like to do more dore stuff.
Financial Report (first Tuesday of month only)Edit
Anarchist societies under a capitalist state need money to survive and thrive, yo.
Rev: 6565.45 Exp: ~11,600 + 1,300 for shop-wall stuff
See post in finance-forum in Discord for details
Reserves:
checking: 10,300 savings: 37,043 coinbase: lot more, but held up. still trying to figure out
Elle: Looking to see what we can spend on the Sweet-16 party? Sounds like "nothing".
Loren: Maybe some suggested price levels rather than an open "how much can we spend" would be most helpful.
- Monthly revenue, expenses. Big projects. Big fundraising events. Reserves in bank.
- Any other details by those participating in handling our financials
- The latest financial reports from the treasurer are available at https://noisebridge.net/wiki/Finances
Spending NeedsEdit
Gotta spend money on XYZ (i.e. Gate, wiring etc.). WHO CAN SIGN THE CHECK OR LEND THE CREDIT CARD!?!?! It doesn't matter if we agree to do something and it can’t be paid for.
Fundraising UpdateEdit
How's it all going
Big C Consensus ItemsEdit
Nobody likes 3 hour meetings, only explain if new people are present. https://www.noisebridge.net/wiki/Current_Consensus_Items
Consensus Items Edit
Only for talking about Big C consensus items, small c consensus items should be discussed with people at the space at the time of the change/new item.
Discussion ItemsEdit
(discussion item) 1: purchasing a spaceEdit
From/Raised by: Elle Seeking: decision/outcome/advice/[?] advice On topic: purchasing a space
Elle: There are sf non profits that help other sf non profits in purchasing properties. one of them came to NB today and she's interested in ways she can help us. CAST () - Community Arts Stabilization Trust. Her org is not the only org, but they are well funded. This is the long game. When should we bring her by? She's very excellent.
I would say I think this is appropriate for a subset of NBers who are active in paying the rent/ the board/ active members.
Julius:This could be a bike shed-ing situation for sure.
(requirements chit chat: public transit accessibility, wheelchair accesibility, etc)
Elle: Let's take a step back. What kind of down payment/ mortgage payments, overall cost, etc are we comfy with? What are we paying per sq ft? How big a bldg do we want? What are we looking for?
W:NB has always been in the Mission. That said, we also are a digital community. Not out of the question that we COULD move somewhere else. I think we should stay in the mission tho - The Mission is "The Arena".
Loren: Maybe try do an "operational scale fundraiser" soon. And a small scale discussion with her, to kick things off. Sudoroom in East Bay, somewhat successfully made a deal with "East Bay Land Trust", some kind of '30 year' sustainability plan.
Discussion about our building: JD: I think instead of asking our landlord for help on rent or whatever (we aren't going to try to buy this building - we dont think he'd be interested in selling), maybe do some kind of fundraiser - pitch it to our landlord as him MAKING A DONATION to us. Good PR, good for his books, good for our relationship.
Suggestion: reach out to Frontier Tower. Have a chat with them about their space. Some kind of "NB annex"?
Loren: We've spent alot of time and energy on this place
JD: the landlord REALLY likes us.
(discussion item) 2: defconEdit
From/Raised by: Andrew Seeking: decision/outcome/advice/[?] advice On topic: defcon
Andrew: if anyone wants toys, lmk. Hak5 etc...
Wheezy: Jet is going to Defcon, Matty has given a talk at Defcon about NFC.
Andrew: Recurring lock picking event
Wheezy: We have one on the third Sunday of the month.
Mark: Is it on Meetup??
Wheezy: It could be. I cn doocratically add it
Mark: Any interest in a recurring Infosec-y event?
Andrew: raises hand
Loren: something about SEEED studio maybe would come host something at our space
Someone might be willing to pay a renowned hacker speaker to talk about the effects of patents on his hardware work? Talk to Loren about it
(discussion item) 3: [topic] Fire exitEdit
From/Raised by: Elle Seeking: decision/outcome/advice/[?] decision On topic: Fire exit
The fire exit we knew it was "to-code". The current one, that I just saw a few hours ago, looks a little janky, and has a knob instead of a push-out?
JD: there is a crash bar, we just about to install it. Exit is just WIP, that's why its janky RN. We will be fixing it up, we are doing it to pass inspection.
Elle: Is the permanent door going to be plywood?
JD: It's a metal door.
This whole building is considered one property, so you dont need "1 hour" firewalls between the tenants. But our new door fits that criteria anyway.
(discussion item) 4: [topic] Monthly Community Engagement BudgetEdit
From/Raised by: Julius Seeking: decision/outcome/advice/[?] advice On topic:Following up on discussion by Loren. We should talk about how to invest more money on a regular basis in community activities.
SEEED Studio thing, patent talk, want to do talks r.e. Cryptography, Govt. things
Loren: With the woodshop back open, we should celebrate with a party.
13th of September will be the Sweet 16 Party.
28th of Sept will be Makerfaire. Wanted to do SF Open Studios, but not gonna happen looks like.
Mark: Oct. 28th-30th is Internet Identity Workshop - maybe something can coincide with that at NB?
Loren proposes a "Calendar working group". Mark Scoffs and has a minor outburst.
Looking to establish "calendar '25 WG". Maybe in Discord? Seems to be where most momentum/ppl are. DONE CREATED
Some discussion about accounts/accessibility of posting things/creating tools etc etc
Andrew: if i'm not mistaken, we're talking about fundraising currently?
Julius: More like "investing funds into NB" to support community-focused, community-building activities. Actively engaging people. Getting people excited about NB and things to do there.
Discussion Item 5: Sewing Misc
From: Elle
Sewing Yard Sale - On the 17th. A list of things to be sold will be posted on #sewing
We want to sell the motor that was accidentally gotten. Are people alright with this?
