[edit] Purpose

To provide an infrastructure so individuals can have a voice on the air. To have informative shows that can spread the ideas of Hacking and creating things. Music shows as well for artists that have different ideas and can't get out otherwise.

-- United States Hackerspace Radio Network
https://noisebridge.net/wiki/US_Hackerspace_Radio

NB Radio will take the lead in working to create a total United States Hacker Radio Network. This will be a website & mailing list that will connect United States' hackerspaces to enable the USA wide production of Hacker Radio content. Hackerspaces nationwide will be able to tap into this content for use in their own local city hackerspace FCC liscensed FM Broadcast band radio station.

We will work together to help hackerspaces around the United States prepare their local city FCC radio license applications.

For instance, Clif, who is from Gainesville, FL, and is now living in the San Francisco bay area, might be able to assist http://www.meetup.com/gainesville-hackerspace/ with coordinating their own station, as well as possibly others.

If Alameda can do it, NB ought to be able to do it. ;)

== Low Power FM (LPFM) Noncommercial Educational Radio Broadcast Stations Return to Top

Low power FM stations operate with 1 to 100 watts of power and cover a radius up to approximately 5.6 km (3.5 miles). Current information about the low power FM filing service is maintained on the LPFM page. The Audio Division has also assembled a program to help find available FM channels for LPFM stations.

Applications for new LPFM stations can only be filed on FCC Form 318 during the dates specified for an application filing window. Applications received at other times will be returned without consideration. We cannot provide advance information as to when the next application filing window period may be, but when that information is announced, it will be in the form of a Public Notice and posted at several places on the FCC's website.

[edit] Content/Sign Up Sheet

News, Independent opinions, Short stories, Poetry, Music, Live performances.

Our first step with finding content to fill the airwaves with will be to find people willing to use this transmitter as a means to express themselves. After that, building a program schedule will help to keep us from getting confused. Below you'll find the program schedule/ sign up sheet.

Person, Show description. Declare if possible when you are able to broadcast.

1.News
LinkReincarnate: 3 hour per week as a 1 hour program every other work day. Hacker news program covering Hacking, science, gaming, and technology news and opinion.

2.Public Affairs
Joseph: I want to make a variety show

3.Education
Monad: I want to make a short program about using tools.
Jeffrey Carl Faden: I can provide an audio stream of my Monday 19:00 class's stream.

4.Music/Art/Poetry

Clif P: I'm a multi-instrumentalist and could do a DJ set of post-rock/doom and good electroacoustic music.
Martin: Blues music show.
Dan C: Electronic music show.

[edit] Financial budget

[edit] Location, equipment, facilities.

Transmitter & Antenna location:

  1. On top of a hill, Sutro tower, or tall building? Benefit: Larger coverage area, more listeners. Disadvantages: Fewer frequencies available. Cost both installation and monthly charges.
  2. At Noisebridge facility: Benefit: Low cost. Easy maintanance Disadvantages: Fewer listeners because smaller coverage are due to signal being blocked by local hills.

Studio options:

  1. Turning the DJ booth into an actual real live DJ booth.
  2. Having the station out in the open to allow a for a more decentralized radio transmitter. Could cause problems if tampered with. It may be in our best interest to use the DJ booth.
  3. If we are going to transmit the Weekly Meeting we need a 2 second delay and a kill switch.

========== My original message suggesting NB start a radio station : Wed, 6 Feb 2013 12:37 PM (0 years 7 months ago): to CQ list

[CQ] K-Noisebridge - NB should start an FM radio station. "The Bridge"

From: To: Date: "giovanni_re" <john_re@fastmail.us> noisebridge -discuss@lists.noisebridge.net , cq@lists.noisebridge.net Wed, 6 Feb 2013 12:37 PM (0 years 7 months ago)

Community outreach.

Y'know how radiostations call themselves by word names nowdays, instead of call signs? Like Alice, The Bone, The Revolution. ?

We should call it. "The Bridge".
