This will probably share space with the Electronics Lab, upstairs.
Sewing Machine
We have one Necchi home sewing machine. It's pretty basic, with maybe 5 kinds of zigzags and a buttonholer. Instructions on its use: http://www.instructables.com/id/Noisebridge_Sewing_Machine/
If you're experienced with a sewing machine you'll probably be fine with this one after using it for a bit. It has Personality... I got it from Freecycle a while back and fixed one mechanical problem it had, but couldn't fix another. At high speeds it sometimes does a nasty crunch which sometimes breaks a needle, but at slow speeds I've never seen it do so, and therefore haven't been able to figure out exactly how it crunches. I have suspicions... anyway, Whatever, it's there, use it. If you don't know how to run it, feel free to ask Rachel to show you.
Coming at some point: a box of miscellaneous items: thread, spare bobbins, tweezers, seam ripper, etc.
Is there interest in a sewing workshop of any kind? I can teach any of the following (and more), depending on people's interest & existing skill level:
- How to run a sewing machine
- mending
- hack your clothing (partially or completely rework an existing garment)
- sew an entire garment from scratch
- patternmaking
- basic soft circuit techniques
