Streaming events through Jitsi, Discord, or both allows online participation as many people can't make it to every event in person. Noisebridge event organizers are strongly encouraged to point a laptop or Telebridge running Jitsi or Discord at any event at the space to uphold our accessibility commitment supporting remote participation.

STREAMING CHANNELS: Jitsi (Meetings), Discord (Machine Learning & Gamebridge), Youtube

Streaming for remote participation[edit | edit source]

One of the ways to make our events accessible in an era of COVID travel difficulties and online MOOCs is by streaming proceedings via our Jitsi and/or Discord and interacting with chat as much as possible to allow online participation.

  • If your events are streamed, use the S streaming template before the event in the event calendar to indicate this.
  • If your event is not streamed, why not?
  • Some events may involve privacy concerns that prevent it.
  • If your event can be streamed, make a pre-event checklist part of your script to help yourself remember to fire up the Jiti stream.
  • Give yourself a visible reminder to check on the chat and respond periodically.
  • Announce your event along with the link to the stream!
  • You can announce events going live on Slack #general or Discord #hackitorium (they are synced so you don't need to do both.)

How to stream via Jitsi[edit | edit source]

Jitsi is the easiest way to stream by default.

  1. Join the Jitsi Hackitorium room unless it is in use, in which case use the Church or Turing rooms and inform your group which link to use.

How to stream via Discord[edit | edit source]

  1. Join the Noisebridge Discord and use one of the voice channels.
  2. Click Screen Sharing to share your screen if you're demonstrating things.
  3. Click Video if you want to show physical things or facilitate 2-way conversation between particpants.

Dealing with audio feedback[edit | edit source]

Audio feedback can be an issue when trying to bridge 2-way conversations via streaming using loud speakers rather than headphones.

  1. Worst case, ask your participants in the physical space to use headphones rather than blaring voices out loud via speakers.
