Murals of women in hacker culture were proposed and a Margaret Hamilton mural was completed. Let's do more!

The wall behind the fabrication area (at the south west corner of the space), was recently primer'd during the REFRESH. Now that we have all this fresh wall on which to have an art, we'd like to add new murals to it to accompany the nearby Tesla mural.

It was suggested that a mural of Margaret Hamilton be painted on the wall celebrating her contribution to the Apollo program. Upon this suggestion some folk threw in the idea that we should have multiple people immortalized on the wall, instead turning it from a mural of one into a dedicated mural to women in the history of computing.

  • Grete Hermann(bonus points for disproving Von Neumann? :P) Her doctoral thesis, "Die Frage der endlich vielen Schritte in der Theorie der Polynomideale" (in English "The Question of Finitely Many Steps in Polynomial Ideal Theory"), published in Mathematische Annalen, is the foundational paper for computer algebra. It first established the existence of algorithms (including complexity bounds) for many of the basic problems of abstract algebra, such as ideal membership for polynomial rings. Hermann's algorithm for primary decomposition is still in contemporary use.
