[Noisebridge-discuss] Touch panel hacking

So the original way they all worked was each monitor was driven by a
laptop netbooting a particular image off of one of the servers in the
space. The netboot image was Debian based, would load up the drives Nils
created for the touch screen, then start up X, open up Firefox, full
screen, go to a particular web page ( http://pony.noise/panel ).

The WYSE boxes that Jason Spence replaced all of the laptops with (and
so the laptops grew legs and walked off), suck at running any of this.
mct spent a night trying to get an install of Debian onto the thing only
to have the installer freeze multiple times through the initial stages
of installation.

What needs to be done...

* Pick a hardware solution
** Drive VGA at 1280x1024
** Ethernet port
** USB or native serial
** Sound
** Small enough to go inside the wall
** Doesn't suck at running Linux and Firefox
* Acquire said hardware
* Make the netboot image function with this new hardware
* Deploy to current touch screens
* Install the unused touch screens
* Win at Noisebridge

So, any cheap hardware suggestions? Used is great, don't really care
just as long as we can get like 10 of them. Hoping for something under
$75 a pop.
