I'm very happy with the new laptop I got 2 months ago.

I think a key part was paying a little extra for the screaming fast SSD

I got:
4 gig = plenty
i5 processor = plenty
1366 x 768 = I could have paid another $180 for the higher resolution and
might have been happier... but I'm happy

Mine came to $880, new. I doubt you'll find anything like this used for
what you want to pay (that wasn't stolen). This is fairly newish stuff. But
hey, anything can happen.
