I think an advantage of injection molding are 'smoothness' possibly? 
For instance, at work we have a transparent elevator button, but it's
chipped and nasty looking now.  I'd yeild to anyone else with actual
experience, but I thought that using a 3D printer for this transparent
part would produce suboptimal results with nasty ridges and such.  Is
that the case?  I'm kind of a fabrication noob trap in the s/w world atm. 

Maybe someone else can post out some other advantageous use cases for
the new equipment.
