[Noisebridge-discuss] elevator broken still?

The landlord is fixing the problem, with both of the only two elevator repair companies suited to fix out 100-year-old custom-built elevator. They didn't tell us the cost this time. I don't recall any cost given to us from previous times.

do we have a 'current' $$$number$$$ for how much it will be
to fix the elevator completely/properly with a warranty on work done?
i know we got a $$$number$$$ maybe a year ago or a little longer?
thanks for any memory on this.

message ends.

Yup -- confirmed! You can go into the elevator after letting someone on the 3rd floor know that you're going to need to be called up. Going down from the 3rd to the 1st floor is fully autonomous.

Best,

Mitch.

The elevator was tested and apparently the 3rd floor button inside the elevator does not work now. I assume they will be repairing this eventually.

For now:
1. The first floor call button does not work
2. The third floor button INSIDE the elevator does not work.

With some teamwork, we can get people up and down the elevator.

Charlie says the elevator is fixed. Apparently the call button is not working on the first floor, I think this was the case before.

Thanks for the update. This maintenance mode thing sounds kinda sketchy but please keep us updated for the anniversary. I've signed up for 5mof and would really love to attend.

I contacted Brian today - Otis is fixing it and he is trying to get someone from their office on the phone.

The elevator was moved in maintenance mode, so I think they now only have the broken gate as a blocking issue.

I mentioned to Brian that we can train someone to operate the elevator with the current damaged gate in maintenance mode. I think it's a longshot but maybe we'll get lucky.

I am not going to defend the landlord but it is usually fixed in a day. Apparently the elevator is an ancient custom job. A new gate is reportedly being ordered for the custom elevator.

it's been months. plural. and not the first time the elevator into the space has been broken. more needs to be done, not only to get it running again ASAP but also to ensure the next time it breaks it's taken care of quickly so accessibility is maintained. this is disgusting.

Very little time for repairs like ours..."""

Hey all,

I'm assuming the elevator is still broken. This has kept me from entering the space for over a month now and is...a bummer. I would really like to attend the NB 10th anniversary, especially cause someone asked me to present. as that date comes closer, I am wondering if it is time to make a formal ADA / accessibility complaint with the landlord, or even just write a concerned letter. It is their responsibility to make repairs like this within 30 days AFAIK. That said, I do not want to jeopardize NB in any way and piss off the powers that be. I do feel this is a little ridiculous though, whatever "custom" thing it is, the LL can spend some damn money and find an expert if needed. Sometimes they need a push to stop dragging their feet and doing every little thing on the cheap.

Brian says that they have to buy a custom gate which is proving to be a pain since apparently the whole elevator is bespoke, custom engineering. The elevator physically works but the broken gate is physically obstructing the elevator and creating a dangerous situation.
