Safety[edit | edit source]
This engraver uses a finely adjusted mirror to direct a laser of 50W over the target surface. 5mW (5 e-3 W) is considered safe for unprotected vision, this laser (50W = 5e2 W) is 10,000 times more powerful. Do not use laser without ensuring that no one might be blinded by an unexpected reflection, and that no one might wander into danger without knowing at any time while the laser is on. Ensure that the area is safe, and will remain safe, while the laser is in use. We don't get second chances with burned out retinas, you will be liable for harm you cause to others, especially if caused by your negligence.
Components of safety for users, bystanders, & organization:
- Training
- Interlocks
- Enclosure + Safe Environment (+ signs)
- Fume extractor
(compliance with rules, demos/sharing/showing)
Enclosure[edit | edit source]
Category:WIP aspect of the project.
Need to determine:
- Safe shielding materials. (Something we can get at TAP? Order online?)
- How to mount them.
Operation[edit | edit source]
Fixes[edit | edit source]
Category:WIP aspect of the project.
- Possibly needs a replacement power supply.
- Needs simple repair rewiring of interlock switch.
Software[edit | edit source]
ToDo document.

Muse Fiber Galvo V2 laser engraving and marking machine offers unbeatable performance. Easily engrave metal, polymers, and more with precision using the 50W Muse Fiber Galvo configurations.
Features
- 1064nm solid state pulsed fiber laser source lasts over 50,000hrs
- 10x finer spot sizes over 10.6um CO2 lasers
- Mark deep etch or smooth surface (no roughness)
- Superior to YAG laser, 5x smaller spot size, 30% efficiency vs 1% efficiency
- Perfectly marks many plastics without surface roughness
- Laser is contained inside a fiber optic cable (no mirrors to adjust)
- Projector style scanning galvo uses rotating mirrors - 10-100x faster than gantry style lasers
- All air-cooled, self-contained and compact
- Scanning galvo laser works like a projector (no moving gantry)
- 20W and 50W pulsed options available
- Integrate into your factory/assembly line including automation (ask us for details)
- Motorized Adjustable Z
- Rotary compatible (not included)
