Jarrod - august 4+5 cleaning day! please come help clean! task list on the wiki; we'll clean, purge, lots of reclaiming of Do Not Hack items of more than 1 months; project shelves 2 months or more. if you don't want your stuff lost, come and claim them!

Jeremy - i put up some signage in the laser cutter room wrt not knowing how to use it or know how to get trained. if someone asks tell them to get a request put into the #laser channel on slack w/ name email and evailability

nickp - Circuit Hacking Mondays needs more teachers! please volunteer! get in touch with me (nickp) or J

john - if you have an idea for some non-consumable equipment, we have an equipment fund! raise half the money, NB will pay for the other half! buy it, then get #finange-wg to reimburse. up to a $5000 piece of equipment (so get reimbursed up to 2500 without consensus)

david - flammable stuff gets left around a whole bunch esp. by dangerous hot work tools like the angle grinder and this is dangerous, please put stuff away in the flammables cabinet, even if you didn't take it out!

micah - abolishICE potluck at the 16th st BART, July 28th 12pm

safe space[edit]

charlie - everyone should be comfortable working on their stuff at noisebridge, we have an anti-harassment policy that ppl should read; if someone asks you to stop doing something in your interactions w/ them its good to do that/ more explicit description of some interpretations of excellence. also we have #space-guardians on slack you can raise issues in

jeremy - also if you're not in slack there's pegasus.noisebridge.net/safespace where you can make anonymous requests to the space guardians channel

steffanie - we also strive to be radically inclusive!

participation[edit]

jarrod - anyone is welcome to come and ring the doorbell and hopefully someone will be here and let you in during the open hours of 11am to 10pm. you're welcome to come and using the space and the tools etc. you have the same power to use the space and make changes as anyone else, so feel free to doocractically modify the space as necessary! ive you're coming to NB often, you can find a member of the space you can request an rfid access token from a member for 30 days that lets you get in w/o having to ring the bell. beyond that we have philanthropists who pay for 24hour access and are willing to close down the space when they leave and know how to do that. and finally we have members, who are a group of people who publicly make it their responsibility to keep noisebridge operational. but noisebridge is doocratic, you participate by doing! if you're unsure, ask around!

christine - age cut off?

beka - i think none but dont expect it to be kid safe??

charlie - keep in mind we're not a daycare so keep in mind safety stuff, etc.

corey - it really depends on the maturity level of the person in question

john - series of workshops w/ much younger kids here w/ adults supervising (spykids) and it worked really well

Philanthropy[edit]

charlie - basically someone who has interested in having 24h access, preferably can donate money on a regular basis (but talk to treasurer); knows how to open and close the safe safely. its a privilege, you're not granted it *because* you pay. being a philanthropist doesnt get you more rights or control than anyone else.

beka -

rando - apply earlier not later! its easy to become one so dont worry!

ben - fees?

john - suggested $80/month but this isnt a requirement! whatever is reasonable for you! it's really ok

Tonzi (sponsored by @gaardn), is a philanthropist!

Membership[edit]

beka -

No applications.

Moneys[edit]

Noisebridge has $93,277.96 in the bank. Running financial reports at noisebridge.net/finances. Please spend money from the equipment fund! It provides matching grants for equipment that lives at Noisebridge, if you raise half of the money. We want a high-yield savings account and a credit card.

Consensus[edit]

charlie - consensus is how we make decisions. some variations: little-c consensus, if you're doing something that you're not sure if it's a good idea that others might object to, just go around and talk to people to see what they think, and consider that before making the change to prevent unintended consequences. other variant: Big-C Consensus, for big things that affect Noisebridge the Org that really can't be done do-ocratically and need the whole community to participate in the conversation around.

beka -

Beka's consensus item (week 1)

Jarrod - seems doocratic??

Beka - financial stuff, so probably should be consensus

Jarrod - will we be using it?

John - yeah we can use it for a bunch of expenses that we're current having, and can pay off very quickly

Corey - have we talked to other non-profits about this? or ones that own property?

John - No

Corey - might want to see what others have done so we can have max info, eg SFMade

jarrod - im fine with it, but it really does seem like doocracy

rando - i'd like to also support talking to other non-profits; my understanding about building credits is holding balances and paying off. maybe should look at the optimal paths here

Discussion[edit]

micah - occupyicesf was recently raided, other groups in other locs were raided; can we host an art event at NB?[edit]

micah - i'm part of a subcommittee formed out of abolishICE SF and working to support other efforts in other cities and were wondering if we could use noisebridge to host an event for making events in support of current and raided occupiers, and people severly affected by these raids. if possible we'd love to do something this Friday (the 27th)

john - Yesss! for any events, you basically dont have to ask permission, check the calender and see if there's open space and make sure it's in line with our conception of excellence! do all the events!

beka - calender being events on noisebridge.net and meetup.com/noisebridge

jarrod - looks like nothing is conflicting on friday

cain - fetish fashion show[edit]

cain - little more than just a fashion show, they'd like to have vendors set up and allow ppl to purchase stuff, etc. will probably need to rearrange the space

corey - i'd like to request tutorials on sewing difficult materials

matt - please make sure ppl know how to put the space back into a sensible order

jeremy - are you the main point of contact?

cain - yes, other point of contact will be here sunday, spoke about donations

jarrod - will they be DEFINITELY donating if they make money? b/c i think they should if they're for profit. normally if a company would want to use our space, we'd charge them.

jarrod - be aware of lit crawl time conflicts

james - noisebridge store![edit]

james - it seems like a bunch of people at NB make art and there isn't a store associated with NB so it might be cool to have something (POD, etc. when possible?) that handles as much of the process as possible.

beka - why not doocratically do it?

james - integration w/ the website, etc, mostly

charlie - it sounds like you're doing some sort of drop ship sort of thing and we dont want to make some kind of expectation about Noisebridge being responsible for labor to make things get to people

james - yeah, i was thinking of stuff like cafepress that didn't involve us at all

matt - i think this is a cool idea, but we need to be aware of the tax issue with making money. so better to not do stuff *through* noisebridge but financially separated

john - having that financial wall would be REALLY good idea

jarrod - how do other hackerspaces do this sort of thing?? it would be good to look into

corey - we should ask the crucible

matt - infrastructure crises[edit]

we need to step up our donation game and the server has been going down; it seems to be down once a month which isn't good; the credentials and access should be distributed; this leads into other situations like the email server having been down all month; these infra issues have been solved in other areas; there needs to be a handle on them so people can access them

cain - I'd suggest setting up an aws account that all members have access to for whatever

jeremy - hashivault? good properties

john - we have monthly payments to linode and digital ocean; I think donate and rack are on servers being paid for by noisebridge

r - patrickod and superq are documented in github repo as having keys to ansible

trent - donate keys

beka - discussions on this are important; noisebridge tradition to have a small group of people who have the secrets of the thing and we then hand off the secrets; works until it doesn't work; we have a channel for this kind of issue (#doocracy-hackerspaces maybe?)

ben - there should be a repo; we use terraform

r - there is an ansible repo

r - we should have a better savings account[edit]

r - i'm willing to look into what the best options are; if you want to suggest one, ping me on slack (@r)

jarrod - sounds doocratic w/ treasurer's involvement
