Excellence[edit | edit source]
Our One Rule is to Be Excellent to Each Other.
(What does that mean? How does the Anti-Harassment Policy fit into this? Are we SURE we know what being Excellent is? This is an important and fundamental conversation at Noisebridge, so let's give it like 120 seconds.)
Read the wiki
Participation[edit | edit source]
Everyone at Noisebridge is a participant at Noisebridge.
(What does that mean? How do you get a door key? Access to Slack, Discuss, etc?)
Read the wiki
Philanthropists[edit | edit source]
A Philanthropist at Noisebridge has earned enough trust from the community to open and close the space.
(What does that mean? What do we expect from Philanthropists? How do you become one? etc)
Read the Wiki
Membership Binder [edit | edit source]
Membership in Noisebridge entails community Trust in Consensus.
(What does that mean? What do we expect from Members? How do you become a Member? etc)

Financial Report[edit | edit source]
Anarchist societies under a capitalist state need money to survive and thrive, yo.
- Funds in bank:
- Noisetor (See the bulletpoints at the bottom of http://noisetor.net/finances/#summary):
- Any other details by those participating in handling our financials
- The latest financial reports from the treasurer are available at https://noisebridge.net/wiki/Finances
Fundraising Update[edit | edit source]
How's it all going
lets get an email server set up (added to discussion items)
Kraken would be interested in donating to noisebridge if we host a crypto event. (sponsor an event).
Dan- importaint to know difference between difference of sponsored event and corprate sponsorship
Consensus[edit | edit source]
Consensus is how the Noisebridge Membership may change how Noisebridge works.
(How does Consensus work? What types of things are good for formal Consensus? What is small-c consensus? What is a "block"?)
Proposals from last week [edit | edit source]
(Add any items which are consensed upon or someone has raised a principle objection for to the Consensus Items History page.)
Proposals for next week [edit | edit source]
(Add any new items for consensus to the Current Consensus Items page.)
Discussion[edit | edit source]
Discussion Item NoiseTor[edit | edit source]
NoiseTor https://www.noisebridge.net/wiki/Noisebridge_Tor
There are people who have donated to noisetor over the years How much has been put into this over the years, esspecially the few years that it has been down
We have a volunteer ready to get a secure server to spin up a tor exit node. Tor Needs more exit nodes.
How should we figure out the ammount
Probably figure out the average month donations for the project (the use that to estimate the figure out how much we can spend from the few years it was down).
One of the years it seens like we got a big one time Donation for running the servers
Might have been auto scaling on the servers from a big donation
was from the OC3 network servers.
Might be good to seperate the donation, refrence, expenses of projects like noisetor, would make financials a bit easier to understand and move funds (or not need to move funds because they are already seperated).
Most of the previous donations came through a tag that could be set on paypal
Where do we want the exit node? Different country, diifferent state, etc.
Currently testing in Iceland (good privacy laws)
Find someplace where we can have a personal connectiion to someone in the server farm
We could use Monkeybrains's colo
We want an exit node that has some resonable expectation of security
BuyVM could be a US option
Could be good if we could build the machine to make sure it uses secure hardware in it.
Greenhost
We were one of the most popular exit nodes in the past
Never run this onsite
There was a standing fund ($10,000 or so), we can definitely cede it (monthly hardware, etc.). If needed, we should create proposal for NB to directly fund or match fund. cc Tyler for financial management of this.
Funds received and tagged totalled $1600 from 2020 for noisetor
Dec 2018 was when the node went dark
Next steps
figure out where we want to hose the node
Discussion Mail Server[edit | edit source]
E-mail Server
We have at least one mail server? I get mail from noisebridge.net all the time as part of integration with the wiki. We also have a list serve.
That does know work for sending emails especially non forwarded ones where thhe email account can be hhanded forward to new noisebridgers
WE ARE GETTING AN EMAIL SERVER set up
Dan: hard opposition to mx route for various thoughts
So who do we get to host the the server and what software should we use
We have been arround for 12 years with no direct outgoing email
A hosted solution would be good
Many people mentioning how terrible it is to run a self hosted mail server
Some options Mailbox.org- from Berlin Proton Mail- We have someone who vouches for them. Ghandi has a mailbox associated with it and we already pay for it (but only 2 mailboxes, but we could set up a ton of filters and handles for forwarding if need be.)
There have been meny crazy rumors about Proton mail, all of them are unsubstanciated and dont hold any water.
Proton mail has a free teir
problem/reality is proton mail is very high profile
Next steps
- find host we trust
- set up server
- profit?
Discussion Tin Foil Chat[edit | edit source]
Tin Foil Chat https://github.com/maqp/tfc
Provides a secure chat mechanism
36c3 Talk: https://media.ccc.de/v/36c3-10565-what_s_left_for_private_messaging
- Action Items:
- Place for inter-hackerspace communication, with both TFC and conventional communication
- Setup instruction on atomic PI
- Can use strict firewall rules to enforce this between VMs (x86 architecture for now)
- talk.vanhack.ca
- (contact us at discuss.noisebridge.info)
- TL;DR : Enforces one-way flow, one sender computer, and one receiver, and the transfer computer.
- Data diode has 2 optocouplers, forces one-way flow of info
- Flows downstream from source computer to destination
- Onion routed: your name is a hash, servive is provided for authentication
- Custom hardware?
- Local testing config (simulating three VM software
- Full implementation has data diodes: PCB + optocoupler
Level 1 Its what we currently have and can set up
Level 2 is run in QUBES
Level 3 has the optocouplers and custom hardware
Action Items: - X : Atomic PI setup is ready to go for this. - pyconaut will also try to get local PI set up for multiple locations.
Minimum specs needed for 3 VMs: Unsure, need to look at documentation Could it run on a LattePanda ? needing 3 x86 computers sucks Can we get it working on ARM Key is the bus rule : if Main guy gets hit, then we an carry the torch Could ths be built on on a single board
How do we get tools like this and secure scuttlebutt used by more people (Can work with VHS on privacy workshop similar to intro to soldering, etc.)
Discussion help get people involved
Discussion Unicorn[edit | edit source]
Server disk is getting a bit phat, what/who is using it.
X - Cleaned up about 9GB dropping a test MQTT server and dashboard
Current primary disk utilization 96GB used, 17GB free, 119GB total 86% utilization
/var/discourse 8.8GB /var/log 920MB /var/www 3.4GB
noisebridge/.ssb-pub-data 32GB noisebridge/backup 4.3GB
Discussion Safety & Buildout[edit | edit source]
Consensus Check-in on Closed for Biz as Usual
- Stay at Home lifted
- Curfew 10p-5a still in effect
- Back to prior state "Purple"
- Noisebridge biz category, still closed
ie- We are back to where we were in mid november.
construction is considered something that can be done but still needs to follow restricted guidelines
We CAN do construction and should make sure to be on top of it so we can open smoothly, this does need knowledgable volunteers.
Buildout discussion
Propose starting with focus on outdoor, driveway and potential shared space.
This area will be very importaint as we open up.
What should we do with parking?
There are two spots on the street and those should be where people focus on parking, and the parking inside the gate should only be used if absolutly nessassary
Minimum parking with adaptability if needed
create a partial parklet with mobile walls that are
the city does not want pop up parklets (you have it or you don't)
the barrier blocking traffic should be in place at all times
we could do the parklet clossest to the big apartment and have open area that allows for the garage door to be used
can we do curb side activities
mobile shop for buildout so buildout can be done outside
better gate
power extention for welding
Staged build, downstairs, upstairs
Ventalation buildout
