Excellence[edit | edit source]
Our One Rule is to Be Excellent to Each Other.
(What does that mean? How does the Anti-Harassment Policy fit into this? Are we SURE we know what being Excellent is? This is an important and fundamental conversation at Noisebridge, so let's give it like 120 seconds.)
Participation[edit | edit source]
Everyone at Noisebridge is a participant at Noisebridge.
(What does that mean? How do you get a door key? Access to Slack, Discuss, etc?)
Philanthropists[edit | edit source]
A Philanthropist at Noisebridge has earned enough trust from the community to open and close the space.
(What does that mean? What do we expect from Philanthropists? How do you become one? etc)
Membership Binder [edit | edit source]
Membership in Noisebridge entails community Trust in Consensus.
(What does that mean? What do we expect from Members? How do you become a Member? etc)

Fundraising Update[edit | edit source]
How's it all going
Consensus[edit | edit source]
Consensus is how the Noisebridge Membership may change how Noisebridge works.
(How does Consensus work? What types of things are good for formal Consensus? What is small-c consensus? What is a "block"?)
Noisebridge still closed.

(Add any items which are consensed upon or someone has raised a principle objection for to the Consensus Items History page.)
Proposals for next week [edit | edit source]
(Add any new items for consensus to the Current Consensus Items page.)
Discussion[edit | edit source]
Metadiscussion: How to improve discussion - Timers? (Get through meeting, then talk) - Realize what's at stake, & dynamic (people who talk a lot tend to moderate)
Established the urgency of quick meetings, we all need to take part
Discussion Item 1[edit | edit source]
Cory: Joined today at Naomi's request to talk about challenges for Noisebridge in setting up shop, don't repeat mistakes from last space in new space, make it easier to pass inspection
Been part of making makerspaces for about a decade. Helped start Tech shop in 2006, contributed to NB since 2008. Now part of HumanMade.org, 1. Makerspace like Techshop (manual machine, textile machine) , and 2. members only, not like Noisebridge
When developing shops, can connect you with contractors, shop people, etc. to create shops that would help pass city inspection.
Working with SFMade, a nonprofit that makes sure shops exists in SF, education is brought to at-risk communities, bring together workforce management.
Why with noisebridge Connect contractors for getting things passed, Noisebridge is an education institution. Hope SF Made's resources (consultation, paperwork at *reasonable* rates) can cut through red tape.
If you have questions, feel free to ask Cory, and will answer the best he can (outside of beuracracy), and can make introduciton.
One question: who would be willing or best able to have conversation with SF Made? Experienced red tape, contracts, zoning. Could help SF get a building?
TJ- Who did our current lease? Our previous lease. some mitch did it supposedly
Pyconaut- I definitly think Noisebridge should reach out to SFMade (I have asked muntiple times), but do not know if I would
TJ- It is hard to ask general group
Dan- Might know someone.
Dan- X is affiliated with noisebridge and owning. IDK if he wants to do it, but I think he could at the very least get a contact.
TJ- I don't want X to do it as he already is doing a lot for noisebridge.
X - Had a good conversation with Human Made and would imagine having a similar conversation with sfmade at somepoint. As TJ is saying, it's too early in my opinion to get involved in this specifically as pretty much soley dealing with managing everything day to day to get the space ready to ramp up and make sure all our other paperwork and communications are covered. Would vary much appreciate more volunteers to communicate with others, and work on maintaing ongoing activites and needs.
X - Would be happy to work with anyone else that volunteers on specific strategies and plans once they are outlined.
Pyconaut: I'd be happy doing it myself since it has never been done. Considering that I"m supposed to be someone that "supositly" does outreach for noisebridge, it would be good if I actually tried to be more active about it. But I know I already do quite a bit for noisebridge, so I know I might not be a great fit.
X - footnote on external communications, please co-ordinate at meetings on anything that might involve interacting with landlord or the city directly, as this has caused us problems in the past. Tyler is generally the best check on interaction with landlord. I have been loosly keeping in touch with the city.
xorey: perhaps we can make this decision later. More importantly we should focus on what should be asked and what to focus should be on.
pyconaut: that makes sense so that could make us decide who should go to them based
dan: they are don't want to waste our time with us right? so lets make someone that works well with them other than xorey.
xorey: what?
dan: is there a personality type that we can choose to send to this group other than you.
Xorey: one thing I'll say is that they are in high demand and are very strictly business. They work fast and intuitive and they are also under many time constraints. so they need somone consice and answer and know about the innner workings of noisebridge and knowlege of the buerocratic interface with the rest of the world.
TJ- are you asking for people with administrative experience? negotiating with contracts and noisebridge.
Xorey: also someone that can make a sales pitch and knows about the history of noisebridge
Dan: Admin experience, and future knowledge is a bit out of my depth, but I know some history and have been around a while, and seen our city issues before.
X - contacting/dialoging with SFMade sounds like something that we could start with over e-mail, pyc you want to start drafting something that we can circulate?
Pyconaut- Sure, what should I add other then an introduction.
X - hi we are noisebridge, we have x space in the mission and planning how to open later this year with activities like ....., can you help us in our overal planning and interfacing with the city or potential contractors.
X - Also priority construction project, aside from covid ventalation, putting in a lift/elevator.
Pyconaut: having a group of people for diverse experience to send to this at the beginning, might be better then a single person at the moment.
ringer interupts
TJ: We have ADA compliance, building an elevator, a wood shop, ventilation. what is is list of things that we can do immediately?
TJ: I think most of these things apply to what we could do with SF made (ADA, elevator, ventalation)
X - Zoning clearence has not been completed, specific recognized classification of activities, community space, light manufacture, other.
X - Capacity per floor/room, fire compliance, extinguisher, exits, etc.
xorey: SF made has helped many businesses with many of these issues, but I"m not sure about ADA, but possible. Definately for the wood shop and metal shop.
Pyconaut: if we are an educational shop we'llprobably need to meet OSHA compliance and do OSHA training. I'd expect Humanmade to know something about that.
xorey: we were both thinking about education. When we approach SFmade we must talk about what we provide. Vocational education is very important and gives python education to anyone we could also do OSHA safety education. THere is also some formal education at noisebridge which is a good community service. This is a good reason that they'd contact us and speak to the mission of SF made. I must leave I"d love to help you with these things. If you want to contact me please contact me at
Coreyfro (at) coreyfro (dot) com I typed it in the notes cya later!
Carl- this also could help with knowledge that I need for a hackerspace I am getting setup in Haward.
nthmost shows up and reads some notes
Actions are
1 find who at SFmade to contact
Nthmost says that they can do this
2. Write an email to send to them and have people look it over Pyconaut / X both are interested
