elan fixing door[edit | edit source]
People coming in next Monday, if not next Friday
shelving[edit | edit source]
LX - model of rolling tables? Looking to get more that match loren - don't know, check after meeting
best way to poll about discussion items - TJ[edit | edit source]
- Polling 1-2 weeks in advance, some switch of weeks / setting agenda for next week - mark - is there a feeling amongst people that discussion items are not being gotten to? or is there some other reason for this proposal? TJ - I think itd be nice to know things in advance as it would be more efficient and incentivize more communication and discussion amongst the community
A.I. Discuss how to bring polling to the meeting (working group meeting) TODO webcam of outside door.
Do-ocratic Task Board[edit | edit source]
Participation also means doing stuff to contribute to the space. Propose new tasks or pick some tasks from Github, from what needs to be done around you, or whatever, and see if someone will sign up to work on that task. Anyone can sign up and it's a great way to show you are contributing! - check model of rolling tables - LX wants to buy more. - june and alex are interested in creating a noise wall for the woodshop - Guild-specific requests on the donations page - Elan has the code, been asking SuperQ to push it - still waiting on that - will ping again - https://github.com/noisebridge/python-nb-donate/pull/48 - Light-up signage - LX is working on it, Loren volunteers to assist in getting acrylic sheets for lighting up the posters on the bar wall - Getting a telebridge setup for upstairs - TJ has a mic and camera, working on getting a computer set up. Loren volunteers a NUC they have. -Working on the woodshop, electrical work
-Things that have been done - new bench vice in shop care of Blue - DON'T PAINT IT! Band saw is now fixed. Credit to gustavo. Use with caution, examine bearings to ensure they are properly tuned. Loren requests signs be made for those notes and put on the things so ppl know!
Mark would request we work on guild interoperability regarding task boards. Suggests federated system. TJ - we can currently sort tasks by label. Loren - perhaps individual guilds can have their own boards Something to discuss more if we want.
space drama (r.e. particular individuals being asked to take a break)[edit | edit source]
Anon - What are requested Action Items (A.I.)?
Anon - We want either 1) acknowledged as welcome to space, 2) set specific timeline to come back on
Anon - Should we be specific?
Anon - Should notes be taken for specific person? *Yes*
Anon - We've had legal issues in the space, because website is publicly accessible. We've have people do legal action to take name off of the website
Anon - We'll not refer to specific names
Anon - Who is this relvant to?
Anon - 2 specific individuals involved in this case tonight.
Anon - No single letter names
Anon - A was asked to leave the space, unclear as to when the conditions to come back are. Asked to leave again after coming back at some point into the future.
Anon - Ask to leaves are intentionally vague
Anon - This individual is known as Blue. Whole lot of stuff. MC was freaking a lot of poeple out, including Blue. Asked to leave 3x in a row. Continued to stay outside the space, on the patio, multiple nights, trying to get inside. Didn't seem to be listening to or comprehending what was going on. People tried to tell them. It concerned Blue a lot, randomly came inside during the meting. Furthermore, MC has concerned people enough for a response team. This continued until MC was asked to leave, being manic. Seem to be entirely different person now. Considering level of concern, disconnect, what the heck happened? Understanding being not great.
Questions:
1. What guarantee is it that MC won't deny ATL again? 2. What happened here?
MC - Everything is valid. First and foremost though, I'd preface with: If someone reacts to what they perceive is rational, they will behave irrational. When I was asked to leave, it was to ask at a reasonable time. How would I make sure the rejoining process is determinate? Ask to leave, not told when to come back.
Blue - Told to come back the next day. You were asked to leave multiple times in a row bc of repeated separate actions. Another person and I asked you to leave. Woz and I asked you to leave another time. Another time you freaked me out. You didn't leave, you stayed in the patio, contradiction
Loren - During the meeting, successfully refrained from the meeting, expressing frustration, it was still making others uncomfortable.
MC - Why did they initially ask me to leave the first time?
Blue - The behavior was ranting loudly in middle of space, frequently would run over and interject in the discussion. Seemed paranoid and manic, jumping in and interjecting. Responded very energetically. Trying to work. Clear it was a disturbance, making someone new to the space uncomfortable. This happened numerous time
Anon - Gone from space for a few months, do remember was here during one of altercations a while back. I think relay was there or Woz/another person. During event, cleaning up with door open, and there was altercation MC was preparing to leave space, started to get erratic, and yelling/acting a bit manic. A few of us asked them to leave. Did forget something and came back. Tried to come back and take shower upstairs. Different instance. But remember the interaction
Anon - Let's focus on suggestions? moving forward?
Anon - Why was ATL appropriate? in the interest of meeting time
MC - What is the core of what I'm being asked to discuss? Wanted to give understanding of what may have been happening. Josiah + you were discussing something, that I seem to be unwell. Josiah looked like Defcon goon named Badger. If you were discussing me, I wanted to be a part of that discussion. When I was gaslit away from my perspective (being asked to leave), I was upset. That is a good time to ask someone to leave. Under the bridge, not under the rest of my life. My perception
Anon - Lots of your grievances seem to center around this person Badger. If there was an issue. It would be good to discuss these issues with the group, instead of taking individual action. What did you believe you mentions - question of worth or value - what did you believe you heard or they said about you
MC - I believe Josiah was trying to gaslight me.
Blue - Zeroed in on first thing, but had no relation to repeated events. It seems like shying away from the main question. Just the beginning of it. Second: We weren't talking about you. At all. Nothing going on. Seemed like you are forgiving at us. You jumped at nothing, at perception of being gaslit. Not talking about you, no reason to talk it.
Anon - We shouldn't speak of initial incident. Seems like MC seems to be doing better, like to hurt it
Anon - That doesn't mean we're dropping the incident. What is the behavior going forward?
Blue - I still have same request - What happened? Less important. First question: Why won't this happen again?
MC - Fairness is how the justice is meted out on the fly. Factors out of your consideration. SSG, people chasing me since the Temple. (stuff related to the Satanic Temple). We all have different ways of dealing with things.
Anon - who do we reach out to?
MC - Would you like to contact Lucien, head of Satanic Temple?
Anon - I don't think I'm around space enough.
Anon - Anyone at *Noisebridge* enough
MC - Claus and JLB are good guys. Understand dangers met by them
Blue - Nothing changed. Claus tried to talk to you multiple times. That didn't change anything. If anything, that makes it worse.
MC - I live a dangerous life. What can I do to meet that standard.
Anon - We've explored this for a long time. I want to make sure things move along
Gaardn - We come to NB bc we want to hack. We are not a support system. We want to come do the projects we want to do. These people here are doing you a huge favor right now. They will not keep doing this again and again.
MC: The question is worthy of a longer consideration.
Gaardn: If that is the case, take some time away from Noisebridge and work on yourself and your stuff.
TJ: From what I understand, a lot of the actions are based on the idea that someone slighted you MC. One good step might be to suggest/admit that some of your actions lately have been wrong.
MC: I agree. Some times I have been out of line. I have made some poor decisions at times.
Elan: Is there an emergency contact perhaps? It may be hard to give assurances about what might happen in the future, but is there someone we can contact should there be any incidents in the future?
MC: Probably a housemate. I will pass along their contact info to ppl off the record.
Loren: https://www.cnvc.org/learn-nvc/the-nvc-model empathetically listening: observations, feelings, needs, requests Do you have needs/requests of the space, MC?
MC: In the interest of justice, we all need to be getting on the same page. I need everyone's info to line up. My request for any punishment is simply that there be a uniform understanding of when the "punishment" is completed.
Blue : But what specifically do you mean?
Why did you not respect the punishment previously asked of you.
MC: I went insane.
gaardn: NB is not the place to go insane. It sounds insensitive, but we are not a mental health services. Do not go here to lose your shit.
Loren - I think many people in the discussion feel we have not made much in the way of progress. (Mark disagrees) Sounds like you may be working on steps through another community to create a more supportive environment. For the time being I would probably request you have someone you trust to come with you to the space and be with you at all times here, making sure everything is good.
TJ - we have tried the chaperone thing before, and it doesn't always work. I would rather stay on the safe side. You are not agreeing that a lot has changed in your life, so therefore I think it is reasonable to ask that you take some time until you believe that it has.
MC: Of course my mental health is a big constantly undergoing project and I don't want to always bring it to the space. Of course people have issues. Part of me finding my stability will be me coming back to work. I need to be here twice a day at most.
Anon: someone needs to let you in for charging batteries. Iterate to broader community that you don't need to allow anyone into the space. If you are not interested in helping personally, you don't need to. If you see them at door, you can ignore them. Can help them if you can. If no one has problem in the space, such that they are in same building. Fully understand the nature, disengagement or more being not at the space at the same time. Would you be comfortable with someone letting MC in the space
Blue: I think that's optimistic. The door's open, people will enter. I like the action items, those are reasonable.
Loren: I might also request that you clarify you need to replace / charge, in ways that don't involve coming here.
MC: I'm always on the run. Even finding a toilet is hard. I help them hack on this time, clipper 0. Try to contribute in any way.
Loren: I think people hope for you using the space without affecting others. We are asking for your help in sustaining the norm.
MC: There are individuals with concerns, and broader concerns.
Anon: Long time action item. There are people who want to charge bikes, cars, etc. We takled about leaving a plug on the outside of space that was accessible via ex. access token. Might be helpful item. Proposed a long time ago. Help people charge their device without coming into the space. Public library, etc. which can do these things.
Anon: Also issue of social engineering. Work on more of a solution. Need to have solution so MC doesn't have to depend on Noisebridge.
Anon: See you rely on NB at least twice a day to sustain life. Again, come to Noisebridge to hack. No reliance on living. That will very quickly result in depending on Noisebridge. What actions are you taking to not be at Noisebridge?
MC: I hack to live. No better explanation. Hacking the company I work for. Please understand I hack to live.
Anon: Have rules against sleeping in the space. People have sense of entitlement and ownership, excluding others'. Not sleeping in the space, but seem to be relying on it. If you came to the space and did that, no issues. But this seems unlikely. Pop in headphones, come in with plan and focus on it. It is hard to balance your extreme need of the space with everyone else's hope for use of the space.
MC: don't consider my use of space extreme need. Just not a lot in existence. Only one bar. No fridge with drink I feel ok grabbing. I live in Oakland, not SF (I wish I lived in sF)
pyconaut: Have you talked to Sudo Room?
MC: Money is tighter there, like taking a paycheck
pyconaut: Other forms of transportation to make money?
pyconaut: That's how you were making money
MC: I have enough moneys to swap and drop all day. What makes NB important is that you have tools to get bike running. Not riding the bike in the future. Extended timeout is needed, so be it.
TJ/Blue/pyconaut agree on taking break from the space
Psychonaut - I think if you look around you will find places that can help you with your battery swaps.
MC: You have no idea how hard it is to find such things. Even the spaces I tried to use things were so impossible I had to leave them and get my money back.
MC: Talked about broad, move to specifics
Blue: That's not what we're talking about right now. We are talking about what we need you to do right now.
Psychonaut - I suggest 30 days absence, and then we check in with your contact and see what is going on with you and what kind of progress you've made.
MC: please make sure you call me right when you call that number as well so I know you talked to them.
Psychonaut - one thing i want to mention is we've had ppl go through a lot of stress in their lives, acted out, then took a break, and then when we checked in with them, we were able to see the difference pretty clearly with a long enough conversation. It can be challenging but not impossible to figure out if someone is in a better place than they were before. I want this to end as amicably and usefully as possible for everyone involved and the community.
mark - Things can be hard. If it's hard that means we're doing the work. If it was easy, we wouldn't be getting to real truths. Just remember that. Not involved, don't need to be involved. Don't think that the discussion has gone sour. Don't misunderstand as failure
MC - This is a pathway to Excellence
mark - Sounds like you should stay away for 30 days.
MC - Sounds good. Can we agree that this is a complicated problem wiht complicated solution?
mark - Ask someone to get batteries to come to the space
mark - I think regards testing something to another individual. Put that as highest priority over other things you think is unexcellent. Try and remember that in the future.
Mark - Resolved for now. MC shall stay away for 30 days at which point we will check in to see how they're doing. Discussions will continue asynchronously as time permits.
