Excellence[edit | edit source]
Our One Rule is to Be Excellent to Each Other. (Give a quick, 1-3 sentence summary.)
Its realyy easy for nerdfights to happen at NB. Be aware of yourself when your in the space. When someone starts being militant/aggressive about something innocuous, focus on yourself. Don't bring drama to the space. Keep it at your own other places.
What does that mean? Please see our page on excellence https://www.noisebridge.net/wiki/Excellence!
Anti-Harassment Policy & Community Standards of Excellence[edit | edit source]
Noisebridge has an Anti-Harassment Policy https://www.noisebridge.net/wiki/Anti-Harassment_Policy Everyone is expected to follow the Anti-Harassment Policy, please familiarize yourself with it.) More approachable & specific guidelines, https://www.noisebridge.net/wiki/Community_Standards https://safespace.noisebridge.net/ is one way to quickly raise issues which will be seen by people in Slack.
Brief Kudos[edit | edit source]
Recent examples of excellent behavior, say 3, unless the passion moves you.
- Brennan for making the electronics room way cleaner and more functional!
(Everyone claps!)
- Brandon, Mike, Elan, Ken, Sam, etc for helping with water/plumbing issues. Keep it up till we have a waterproof 'bridge!
New Members/Associate Members[edit | edit source]
What are they? Is anyone trying to become a Member or Associate Member? If not move on. No long discussions.
JD sponsors Jade. No one objects. They are excellent. Jade is now an associate member!
Brennan vouches for Chris's excellent. JD trusts Brennan and therefore sponsors Chris.
No one objects.
Chris is now an associate member!
(and there was much rejoicing. yaaaayyyy)
Big C Consensus Items[edit | edit source]
Nobody likes 3 hour meetings, only explain if new people are present. https://www.noisebridge.net/wiki/Current_Consensus_Items
Consensus Items [edit | edit source]
Only for talking about Big C consensus items, small c consensus items should be discussed with people at the space at the time of the change/new item or can be reserved for the discussion section of the meeting.
Discussion Items[edit | edit source]
It is recommended to post items for discussion ahead of time at https://pad.riseup.net/p/nbmeeting. (Check that the template for the meeting is in place already, and that last week's notes have been moved to the wiki, of course)
Item prompts should follow the format: From/Raised by: [your name here] Seeking [decision/outcome/advice/something else] On topic: [topic]
== Discussion Item 1 == adoption of the pre-event safety meeting brief From/Raised by:jd Seeking approval On topic:see de of conduct summmary.
We have a working document for the summary here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1VM5zH_N0fsh--w23U385byPNtEK-cl-TW3TlP8TIalc/edit
Mark: see 'Community Standards' page: https://www.noisebridge.net/wiki/Community_Standards maybe it could just be a short summary of whats already on this page?
Steve: would be cool to stick a short comment in about "chain of responsibility" before events
Brennan: currently planning on having door people at my next event. I think all events should have this.
Suggestion of language from Ellen: "Noisebridge is a community of members and their guests. Members are responsible for their guests."
Could call it "code of conduct" bc its a generally used term. Could be "how to be excellent".
Colin: there's also general info. Like fire exits and whatnot. I like "event safety brief".
Also, probably need different versions of the same blurb for different kinds of applications. Events, meetups, meetings, classes, posters, etc
Discussion Item 2[edit | edit source]
From/Raised by: Ellen Seeking Assistance from folks who are more experienced in the space to assist and a couple others to lighten the writing/researching load On topic: SBA Grant for small biz supporting organizaations
Small business Administration of CA has a grant program that provides up to 50k for entities that support small business development. None of the orgs Ive worked with before have desrved this more than noisebridge. Can be subgranted to small businesses that have been developed under the entity. Need help working on this!
Brandon: might be a few people who maybe dont have a business but have spun up work with businesses?
Ellen: I'll have more specific info later after doing more research.
Brennan: Sam may be working on updating all our documents with the correct current.
Mark: I'd love to see more of actual organization around fundraising. Re-build the guild! Make it known and visible that stuff is happening.
Julius: To what extent can anyone at noisebridge just ad-hoc work on this? How "official" does it have to be?
Mark: Would definitely like to have some steps outlined in an obvious place for excellent Noisebridgers to find and follow. A template/bunch of useful info for ppl to use to fill out applications.
Brennan If someone wants to dedicate time to work on preparing grants Maybe part of ppls' monthly dues could go to paying people to write grant apps. Avoids potential ethical issues.
Ellen: More interested in it just being a volunteer effort or else I would recommend paying professional grantwriters.
JD: Grantwriters could build in a 'grant management' job into the grant for themselves though. Just not for writing the thing.
We need continuity, transparency, and redundancy, to make sure that things always get followed-through with.
Discussion Item 3[edit | edit source]
From: Brennan Topic: Flaschen Taschen
Quick overview: It's a big thing downstairs in the middle of the room. Hasn't been on for a while! It's hackable! I got one of these small ones running! (show off little one displaying noisebridge logo) The square table with the RGB LED noisebridge logo runs off the FT protocol!
We need to get the big one back up and running. Should be a colloborative project between multiple noisebridgers!
Just want people to jump in and help bring it back to life! Would love to get it working tomorrow night!
Discussion Item 4[edit | edit source]
From: Brandon Haskell Seeking approval to start a Coding Project Camp on Meetup. Hosted by me on Sunday afternoons. Time TBD, based on other MeetUp meetings.
Mark: 1. Don't need approval - just do it and make sure there's no collisions! Ask #event-support for help 2. What's the format?
Brandon: Not sure exactly. Previous meetup was just kind of "bring your own project and work on it" Open to different things.
Mark: My advice is keep it pretty tech agnostic, let people tell you what they are interested in learning, and give very general lessons, using your own tech stack. But then build in lots of personal project time.
Discussion Item 5[edit | edit source]
From: Jade Seeking 👍👍 to build a 4' x 7' x 6" CNC cat toy downstairs for the next few months
Everyone: Store it behind the Maslow CNC and label it!
Do-ocratic Task Board[edit | edit source]
Participation also means doing stuff to contribute to the space. Propose new tasks or pick some tasks from Github, from what needs to be done around you, or whatever, and see if someone will sign up to work on that task. Anyone can sign up and it's a great way to show you are contributing!
