Excellence[edit | edit source]

Our One Rule is to Be Excellent to Each Other. (On first Tuesdays, seek a few definitions. Other Tuesday, give a 1-3 sentence summary.)

As an anarchist society, it doesn't mean we don't have rules, per se, but that we don't have leaders. It is on everyone to make sure eachother are excellent.

Pattern of action with the intention of surpassing a previous standard.

Cleaning up after others, even if its not your mess.

Assume positive intent as a default.

Ways we have agreed upon - community standards - harassment policy followed - you are doing okay - how do actually achieve excellence - not doing those things is unexcellent by conseusus. Familarize self with communtiy standards.

What does that mean? Please see our page on excellence https://www.noisebridge.net/wiki/Excellence!

Anti-Harassment Policy & Community Standards of Excellence[edit | edit source]

Noisebridge has an Anti-Harassment Policy https://www.noisebridge.net/wiki/Anti-Harassment_Policy Everyone is expected to follow the Anti-Harassment Policy, please familiarize yourself with it.) TWO MINUTES MAX More approachable & specific guidelines, https://www.noisebridge.net/wiki/Community_Standards https://safespace.noisebridge.net/ is one way to quickly raise issues which will be seen by people in Slack.

Brief Kudos[edit | edit source]

Recent examples of excellent behavior, say 3, unless the passion moves you.

Mark: Elan excellently hosted spacebridge the other night and is doing good work to lead by example of excellence to others Elan: Moof for taking over hosting duties the previous week Mark: Kudos to Elle, JD and others who work quietly in the shadows to make nb a more excellent place

Cloud: Kudos to Ben for showing where all everything is around the shop EHR: Kudos to Zoda for doing a good job at setting expectations for the space. Not easy, appreciate someone. Elle: To Phillip, who helped put together the sewing cabinet. servicable build and time permitting he will do! (he won't hear it, but it's on record that phillip is awesome)

Guilds[edit | edit source]

  • What are guilds - briefly describe (much like the previous section on "Excellence")

Guilds: One way to get involved in NB commmunity building

New Members/Associate Members[edit | edit source]

What are they? Is anyone trying to become a Member or Associate Member? If not move on. No long discussions.

You are empowered to do as much as anyone. No hierachy. But there is a formal membership program different benefits and responsibilities. Certain benefits are for certain members - communal agreement that you have demonstrated excellent - accessing the space - with the key card - certain things that come with membership otherwise you have to be a member like doing formal consensus to get big ticket items at the meeting

Two tiers of membership:

Associate membership - steward of the space - in exchange you get greater access to the space - donate what you can - arrange that with the treasuerer but it is flexible (can't vote for the board))

2nd tier Big M Membership that takes an extra 4 weeks - we want to get to know you more and seeing who you are and it's more about taking responsibilities for being a stewart of the community. Putting you in charge - managing the space more - healthy community - things get done. that is what membership is here. Encourage excellent members to go out for. (legally under bylaw) (could vote for the board)

Julius is applying for Associate Membership. Sponsor is Mark.

Julius: I feel I wnted to get more involved after a lot of the chaos a few months ago when some people who were involved were suddenly not anymore. Saw it as an opportunity to step up and become a bit more involved and responsible. Now I feel I am more ready for that.

Loren: Are you often here late? Plan to close often?

Julius: Not here usually super late. Maybe 10-11 most days. Some interest in coming early.

JD: Said you wanted to see NB become more the place you wanted it to be? Describe/elucidate?

Julius: Started come more semi-regularly a year/year and a half agao for TJ's AI meetup. was a really positive aspect of the space. Want to help create more stability and consistency like that. Community and education contributions.

JD: Have you read the AHP and CoC. Anything you might have issues with?

Julius: Not really, maybe there was something I wanted to add, cant remember off top of head.

If someone asked you to leave, would you?

Would expect I would leave. But unsure about some edge cases maybe?

Cloud: Would be a huge loss not to have Julius in the community. He's solidly excellent and capable.

Elle: How do you feel about Guild system? are there any you'd want to join as you become a Member? Is there a s particular area of NB you'd want to take responsibility for as a Member?

Julius: See it as kind of vestigial thing. Kind of working on the machine shop atm. There was the fabrication guild I saw. Kind of unclear what the status/purpose of guilds is.

Loren: What areas do you want to bring forth more events and activity in the space/community?

Julius: Interest in ML/data science, even though I'm missing some expertise in perhaps being a leader there... but maybe a reading group/interest group in that area?

Elle: (please keep helping out with sewing guild!)

Financial Report (first Tuesday of month only)[edit | edit source]

Anarchist societies under a capitalist state need money to survive and thrive, yo.

-Transparency with finances - should we be more transparent? Make announcements. We have a transparency thing: in the last month -

-Breakup group to get things done (replacement sign - loren) -Talk to JD or Mark if you want to get this done.

  • Monthly revenue, expenses. Big projects. Big fundraising events. Reserves in bank.
  • Any other details by those participating in handling our financials
  • The latest financial reports from the treasurer are available at https://noisebridge.net/wiki/Finances

Spending Needs[edit | edit source]

Gotta spend money on XYZ (i.e. Gate, wiring etc.). WHO CAN SIGN THE CHECK OR LEND THE CREDIT CARD!?!?! It doesn't matter if we agree to do something and it can’t be paid for.

Fundraising Update[edit | edit source]

How's it all going ???

Big C Consensus Items[edit | edit source]

Nobody likes 3 hour meetings, only explain if new people are present. https://www.noisebridge.net/wiki/Current_Consensus_Items

Do-ocratic Task Board[edit | edit source]

Participation also means doing stuff to contribute to the space. Propose new tasks or pick some tasks from Github, from what needs to be done around you, or whatever, and see if someone will sign up to work on that task. Anyone can sign up and it's a great way to show you are contributing!
