Short announcements and events[edit | edit source]

  • Elle - events:
August 3rd party : NB15 party - looking for items for the silent auction, generally looking for help promoting and helping with the party!
  • Olga - Oct 26 5-9 Litquake is hosting a lit-crawl festival. It brings in a lot of writers and creative people. Three different phases or groups of events. The writer's workshop is one, but there will be two other events

Elan - Wyatt created a do-not-hack channel (under hackitorium) to be used for items/projects left in the space. This is not meant to replace clearly labeling items with "Do-Not-Hack <DATE> <CONTACT INFO>" but to supplement it.

Elle - Sewing last meeting was last sunday (raised $240!). I was hoping to have four classes, but this may be the only one. Ken and I are slammed. If anyone has the capability and interest (I can teach you to teach it, it is very simple) let me know. The accessible sewing cabinet now has a serger We are having a mend-a-thon and will mend things We are also selling three machines. One down downstairs, two upstairs, and the knitting machine

Caleb - I have some screen printing experience and I wouldn't mind trying to dial in the formula on it to make some noisebridge swag. If anyone wants to join (Zack is interested). Maybe a class on screen printing

Zack - Laser experiments have revealed that where you laser the shirt falls apart in the wash.

Excellence[edit | edit source]

Our One Rule is to Be Excellent to Each Other. (Give a quick, 1-3 sentence summary.)

What does that mean? Please see our page on excellence https://www.noisebridge.net/wiki/Excellence!

Wheezy - Excellence is to be considerate to yourself, the space, the community. Try your best to be your best while you're here. No one is perfect. What keeps us going is if you're willing to own your mistakes, help others, learn new things.

Zach - Assume positive intent when you don't know.

Anti-Harassment Policy & Community Standards of Excellence[edit | edit source]

Noisebridge has an Anti-Harassment Policy https://www.noisebridge.net/wiki/Anti-Harassment_Policy Everyone is expected to follow the Anti-Harassment Policy, please familiarize yourself with it.) More approachable & specific guidelines, https://www.noisebridge.net/wiki/Community_Standards https://safespace.noisebridge.net/ is one way to quickly raise issues which will be seen by people in Slack.

Brief Kudos[edit | edit source]

Recent examples of excellent behavior, say 3, unless the passion moves you.

Wheezy - kudos to organizers to the gaming area (Mark and possibly others). It makes a lot of sense and it is beautiful

Julius - Azamat for assisting in handling some stressful.

Olga - Thank everyone for making the upstairs hackitorium a welcoming space.

Elan - Aaron and Elle and Chatbot for designing and printing some awesome fliers for NB15

Azamat - ty for everyone I have met so much.

Ethan - kudos to Ellen for showing around the space

Alex - Lauren, helping me with some computational physics

Elle - Kudos to Loren. He gets a lot of requests and responds when he can and it seems to work. Also to Wyatt for coming through a difficult conversation with grace.

Big C Consensus Items[edit | edit source]

Nobody likes 3 hour meetings, only explain if new people are present. https://www.noisebridge.net/wiki/Current_Consensus_Items

Consensus Items [edit | edit source]

Only for talking about Big C consensus items, small c consensus items should be discussed with people at the space at the time of the change/new item or can be reserved for the discussion section of the meeting.

Discussion Items[edit | edit source]

Discussion Item 3 (DO FIRST)[edit | edit source]

From/Raised by: arielle Seeking: decision On topic: beyblade tournament this fri (wondering if i can prioritize? i have to go back home by 8:30pm to catch last bus)

Alex: 200 people seems like a lot Elle: I concur. Worried about folks bumping into knitting machine. Is this a fundraiser? Arielle: Wouldn't be a fundraiser but we should put QR codes to put . Ellen: No moving the flashentaschen.

Patrick - suggesting using the tables to protect the machines

Elan - My impression is that this is a multi-hour event, so probably most people won't be in the space at the same time. A lot of people, but not 200.

Arielle- For transparency, we have 350 rsvp's and I estimate about 200 will come

Elle - We have gotten over 100% of RSVP's in the past.

Mark - will take responsibility

  • Mark is willing to sponsor.

Discussion Item 1[edit | edit source]

From/Raised by: Olga Seeking On topic:Olga Zilberbourg will attend and ask if NB can host Lit Crawl on Saturday, 10/26. We did this last year, and they've come in the past, too. SF Writers Workshop would participate and help.

San Francisco Lit Quake is celebrating 25 years. Lit walk is last night of the festival https://www.litquake.org/litcrawl.html

  • Will need a mic, chair setup.

3 slots: each an hour long event

   - writers workshop
   - 2 other community writers

Elle is hosting.

Discussion Item 1.5[edit | edit source]

From/Raised by: Seanan/Daniel Seeking: advice/decision On topic: wants to host an event (SF Contemplarium brainstorm workshop) at NB on August 11, 2-4pm

Met Daniel and Elle at Build IRL accelerator. Targeting to host an event for 5-20 people

SF Contemplarium to highlight and celebrate human experiences. Loves the space/community). Wants to host some brainstorming/planning sessions at Noisebridge running up to the actual event.

Elle: Build IRL was great and has been giving some great press (SF Standard)

Tilda suggested making a labrynth

Julius: We should use this as excuse to clean up the patio.

Elan: it sounds like if that date is open you already have a sponsor. It sounds like a good fit. If you want to reserve space to do this brainstorm session, check the meetup page, but especially the weekly calendar on noisebrige.net. Once you have some timeslots for the sessions, Daniel can put it up on the main site or ping someone who can. Labyrinth sounds super cool.

Mark: see https://www.noisebridge.net/wiki/Hosting_an_Event

Discussion Item 2.5[edit | edit source]

From/Raised by: NB15 folks Seeking On topic:Spreading word of NB15

Go put a flyer anywhere you think is cool with Noisebridge!

Discussion Item 5[edit | edit source]

From/Raised by: Ethan Seeking: decision On topic: Working with carbon fiber at noisebridge

< detailed process on how to make carbon fiber guitar >

Has done this before as a senior engineering project. Believes working with carbon fiber but working with epoxy fumes. Cutting carbon fiber

Elle: I worked in CR club(?) dealing with toxic exposure. Worked with a lot of folks who had incidental exposure.

https://www.unsw.edu.au/content/dam/pdfs/unsw-adobe-websites/planning-assurance/safety/documents-resources/other/2018-05-UNSW-Carbon-fibre-safety-information-sheet.pdf

Ace makerspace has protocols for dealing with carbon fibers.

Patrick: So is carbon fiber like asbestos? Elle: It is an irritant rather than carcinogen.

Elan: Pasted safety sheet - wont summarize my skimming. Have you looked into Ace Makerspace? Ethan: No - it is a subscription model.

Julius: ----

Mark: It doesn't mean we can't do it in the future but it will take u

Elan: It would be great .

Alex: My college has a big makerspace/workshop and had to recently start working on some hazardous materials. It sucks getting shut down but it is justified. It is probably worth paying $200 to Ace to do things the right way. It probably costs more to set things up to do things the right.

Julius: Epoxy safety has two parts - safety of others in the space would be solved with ventilation. Safety for you is solved by using an appropriate respirator. There are many kinds, so make sure you check which one specifically your filters are rated for. I would say that for now, let's keep the carbon fiber work out of the space. Maybe going forward we can support that pending further research. And definitely a hard no on any drilling, cutting, sanding, grinding, etc on the finished product. Noisebridge struggles especially with diffuse dangers, especially ones that only become evident over time.

Elle: There is a maker space in Alameda community space. I may have contacts.

Elan: We can try to send a message "officially" to try to smooth the process if that's helpful

Ethan: These options sound great and I would love to get a list of other makerspaces.

Elan: Delayed kudos - thank you so much for asking about this and bringing beforehand.

Discussion Item 6[edit | edit source]

From/Raised by: Elle Seeking On topic: Getting final approval for payment for the dancer for NB15. He is confirmed and has been waiting for word for a long time.

Request: - couch - frequent flier miles - alaska airs (?)

Discussion Item 7[edit | edit source]

From: Caleb Seeking: Topic: Screen printing class / workshop

Saturdays open?

Discussion Item 4[edit | edit source]

From: Julius Seeking: decision ATL in the music room today. Need to decide on duration, further steps, or move to 86.

Summary: Mohamed approached Julius because some folks were physically threatening him and not accepting ask-to-leave. Julius and Azamat were able to convince them to leave but they didn't want to leave their equipment here.

They marked their equipment and the tentative plan is for them to come get it tomorrow.

Julius didn't see the original interaction but there was some behavior that was was definitely intimidating.

< Physical descriptions of the individuals. >

Will be here tomorrow at 1 - would like backup.

JD: Wanted to point out the recommended practice is to give an extended-ATL and allow back if they are able to articulate why they ATL'd in the first place.

Julius: Sort of on board, would want Mohamed's take.

Mark: They should at least be able to collect their stuff.

Julius: is 1 month reasonable amount?

Crowd: That seems reasonable
