Excellence[edit | edit source]

As a default mode, assume good intentions when people are doing or saying things. And you then might completely avoid like 90% potential stressors/unnecessary situations.

People miscommunicate a lot, and this leads to a lot of problems.

Being excellent is also trying to think about and consider the consequences of your actions.

What does that mean? Please see our page on excellence https://www.noisebridge.net/wiki/Excellence!

Anti-Harassment Policy & Community Standards of Excellence[edit | edit source]

Noisebridge has an Anti-Harassment Policy https://www.noisebridge.net/wiki/Anti-Harassment_Policy Everyone is expected to follow the Anti-Harassment Policy, please familiarize yourself with it.) TWO MINUTES MAX More approachable & specific guidelines, https://www.noisebridge.net/wiki/Community_Standards https://safespace.noisebridge.net/ is one way to quickly raise issues which will be seen by people in Slack.

Brief Kudos[edit | edit source]

Recent examples of excellent behavior, say 3, unless the passion moves you.

Kudos to the party cleanup crew (again!)

Kudos to Mohammed for teaching Yuho and others Blender!

Guilds[edit | edit source]

  • What are guilds - briefly describe (much like the previous section on "Excellence")

Its a way to find interesting stuff at the space and find people who are interested in similar things to yourself! Shoutouts spacing guild! (Spacebridge group)

New Members/Associate Members[edit | edit source]

What are they? Is anyone trying to become a Member or Associate Member? If not move on. No long discussions.

(Mark hands out a couple Membership applications to interested folks)

Discussion Items[edit | edit source]

(discussion item) 1: [topic][edit | edit source]

From/Raised by: Elan Seeking: decision/outcome/advice/[?] On topic: Spend request: Buy a working laminator (or fix the current one)

- Loren had bought one, and it is here and working to our knowledge - Laminator was found in the print room

Mark: proposes that we have a nice, hidden version of thing, and then a more public one Alex: maybe make certain tools harder to get to and use - authentication, etc

Yuho - something about an organization (in finalnd, maybe) where a board votes and makes decisions, and then those decisions get to have a follow-up vote by the general membership of the org

Ken: I think, considering human psychology, really bad idea to have a "decoy".

Julius: On a purely mechanistic leve, how would we enforce it? On anything electronic, need to have power, system must be maintained, etc

JD: work on culture, its important, for example, to get to know the CNC guild so you can get access to the CNC locker with the important equipment in it. Has been working effectively.

Mark talks about how guilds in theory could decide to maintain their equipment in their own way.

Discussion tangents into "how do we make decisions at noisebridge"

Alex: what exact problem are we trying to solve?

We have way to do things: do-ocracy + getting consensus for bigger changes

Julius: suggesting working on expanding the front door system and creating new implementaions of it for various things around the space

Alex: Our community is our community. when people step up to do things, things happen. I dont think there's any sort of "process" we could put into place that would motivate people more to do these things.

Yuho: then I would say, make sure th process doesn't prevent people from doing these kinds of things.

Alex: I think no process/governance change could really do anything here.

Mark: Guilds and improvements on inter-guild communication/knowing who to contact would be most excellent.

Mcint: What are the things we *should* coordinate on?

Dan: I have seen an instance of this being "solved" so to say. I have access to this "clean room" facility. Every tool in there has someone who is responsible for it. There's like a reference sheet so everything is tied to a person. Kind of extreme, but it is a sort of solution.

Julius: Do we hunt down things without nametags on them and excise them from the space? [editor's note:Seems counterproductive]

Alex would say ive already seen this system take place kind of organically within noisebridge to an extent. There might eb a concurrency problem tho. People being away/unavailable for a bit, etc

Robert: Tool catalogue would be cool.

JD: The intention with guilds is democratization of and transfer/redundancy of knowledge. Laser guild for instance has backup instructors.

Mcint: Want to add, I and Mark, and LX have worked to list maintainers of things on the wiki to make them known to people. Always interested in people signing up to that. We have this existing guild structure and want to make it more visible/encourage people to be responsibiolity holders more.

Josh: Consider what we are designing for at NB. If we want a more structured space, we can design for that. If we want something more anarchistic, we can do that. Decentralized solutions to problems seem to traditionally fit noisebridge's culture.

From/Raised by: zack Seeking: decision/outcome/advice/[?] On topic: a proposal to do a 30-45minute stencil art workshop "How to Banksy" at noisebridge.

I'd like to do a small workshop. Is kind of a joke title, just cause he's trending right now.

Been experimenting with stencil art a lot lately since becoming laser trained. Just want to practice doing a workshop here.

It would be outside, making use of the patio gate wall. Will be posting it on meetup. Limiting to maybe 4-5-6 people max. Don't want to do a big huge thing. No crowd.

Proposing a $50 fee for meetup and see how people react and if there's interest.

Elle: I support it. Sounds like such a great idea. Concern: $50 is pretty high for a class at NB right now. Been experimenting with prices myself. Can I suggest dropping it to $20 or 30?

Zack: open to suggestions. Deliberately set it high as a test to see what people are willing to go in for and what the demand might be like.

Elle: I can show you some data about the sewing classes, prices vs attendance.

Julius: What can we do to support you? Noisebridge more broadly other than just spreading the word?

Zack: If we come to an agreement on the day and time, I ask that I have no issue clearing out that patio space and ensuring it is available and set aside for the event.

Mark: What day did you have in mind?

Zack: Have to look at my schedule. How do I propose a date?

Mark: At least 2 weeks out at this very tuesday meeting.

Zack: How to post on meetup?

Elle: I can help with that and also with getting it on Luma.

BTW we were going to do a painted labyrinth on the patio floor. Maybe next week. Please don't paint on the ground there over it!

Zack: We can put down painter's plastic to protect the ground!

(discussion item) 3: [topic][edit | edit source]

From/Raised by: Elle Seeking: decision/outcome/advice/[?] On topic: Silent Auction/Artists at NB

Elle: An idea was floated to continue a silent auction in which NB artists can sell their work, using the platform we used for the party auction. at a 50/50 split with noisebridge. Display pieces up for sale at the same place above the stairs...

Julius: May possibly need capital C consensus. How do we ensure, revenue split is done, that all people consense to it, that the various pieces remain in safety at the space before sale, etc?

Yuho: these questions are related to the problem about resource maintenance we were discussing earlier tonight.

Conversation to be continued online. #fundraising-wg channel bring as a continued discussion item next week's meeting.

Do-ocratic Task Board[edit | edit source]

Participation also means doing stuff to contribute to the space. Propose new tasks or pick some tasks from Github, from what needs to be done around you, or whatever, and see if someone will sign up to work on that task. Anyone can sign up and it's a great way to show you are contributing!

End of Meeting[edit | edit source]
