Excellence[edit | edit source]

Our One Rule is to Be Excellent to Each Other. (Give a quick, 1-3 sentence summary.)

Do unto others. Make Noisebridge a welcoming and all-inclusive (to the extent possible) environment!

What does that mean? Please see our page on excellence https://www.noisebridge.net/wiki/Excellence!

Anti-Harassment Policy & Community Standards of Excellence[edit | edit source]

Noisebridge has an Anti-Harassment Policy https://www.noisebridge.net/wiki/Anti-Harassment_Policy Everyone is expected to follow the Anti-Harassment Policy, please familiarize yourself with it.) More approachable & specific guidelines, https://www.noisebridge.net/wiki/Community_Standards https://safespace.noisebridge.net/ is one way to quickly raise issues which will be seen by people in Slack.

Brief Kudos[edit | edit source]

Recent examples of excellent behavior, say 3, unless the passion moves you.

Help taking out trash, from infra attendees Kevin & Jake. Kudos to Ken, taking on, making progress on the wall.

Kudos to Elizabeth for teaching the sewing class very impromptu and handling the sewing room Saturday!

To Loren for working on the Door system.

Kudos to Zach aka Chrysknife, helping with clean up and organizational planning on Friday.

Big C Consensus Items[edit | edit source]

Nobody likes 3 hour meetings, only explain if new people are present. https://www.noisebridge.net/wiki/Current_Consensus_Items

Consensus Items [edit | edit source]

Only for talking about Big C consensus items, small c consensus items should be discussed with people at the space at the time of the change/new item or can be reserved for the discussion section of the meeting.

  • Should we act on the long-standing proposed consensus item?
  • Elle - Selling several items (three industrial machines + knitting machine) from the sewing room in a Noisebridge Yard Sale
    • Singer is too dangerous for use in our space

Discussion Items[edit | edit source]

It is recommended to post items for discussion ahead of time at https://pad.riseup.net/p/nbmeeting. (Check that the template for the meeting is in place already, and that last week's notes have been moved to the wiki, of course)

Item prompts should follow the format: From/Raised by: [your name here] Seeking [decision/outcome/advice/something else] On topic: [topic]

Discussion Item 1[edit | edit source]

From/Raised by: Seeking: volunteers! Bringing projects! discussion On topic: (placeholder) -- Maker Faire -- discuss in discord!

Mark's policy for the booth: Not bringing anything unless there is a committed steward for it at the booth.

Discussion Item 2[edit | edit source]

From/Raised by: everyone, Elle & Loren, questions from Julius Seeking: consensus to act On topic: Taking down ArtSpan stuff

What's left from artspan that we need to take down?

There are a ton of small paintings/artworks. In the front and back stairwells. People are still selling the items, even now, theoretically.

It's messy. It is trending toward misuse of the space

This should've been cleaned up immediately after the event. We discussed cleanup in advanced of the event, should've consensed on it. It seemed obvious to me that it would be done, but here we are weeks later, and it hasn't been done.

Let's reach out to Zach. Let's annouce to directly in channels. Zach is a convenient point of contact, not a sole manager of a fief of Noisebridge as a converted art gallery.

There's a cost to having the items all around.

Elle: It seems a dangerous precedent to allow people to enter the space for a 2 day art event, and allow it to stay up -- not for 2 weeks, now it seems indefinite.

Elan: I think the walls are significantly more coated that before. I'm a fan of the messy look. But we probably don't want the walls to be indefinite un-approved gallery space for people selling stuff.

Let's send a message blast -- we're removing this. Demoting stuff from: we're in special art span time, into anyone is empowered to rewrite the space. We should make an effort to communicate.

Mark: It's a dangerous precedent to ...try to reach out to people?

Julius: I think word you are looking for Mark is "capricious"? or "arbitrary". Definitely should make a good faith effort to reach out to ppl. Will reach out to Zack.

Loren: sent out message in artspan thread of discord informing ppl of imminent art removal.

Elan: the event has long passed, it would make sense for Noisebridge to return to do-ocratic procedure. It's excellent to reach out and let them know.

Loren: It seems weird to tie ourselves to internal communition norms with people in our community.

Loren: I called before the event -- we were going to face frustration with abandonment.

Loren: Ok, it seems we're focused now on lessons. Let's capture these lessons -- what's written lasts and teaches, what's spoken passes in air.

Discussion Item 3[edit | edit source]

From/Raised by: Elle & Julius Seeking suggestions, volunteers, consensus enough to act On topic: New-Member "happy hour" or gathering/onboarding

Would be really helpful to have a meetup for new Members, maybe once a month? whatever Members are available could come and show up. Noisebridge could maybe pay for beer and pizza? Donations requested? Opportunity for brand new people to meet eachother, get a deeper convo beyond the tour that they've obviously already had. Rather than coming to a meeting and hearing boring bureaucracy/drama. Should be fun!

Fun is good. Fun is helpful!

Loren: I wanted to host some sort of potluck (prepare food here?). Maybe once a month. Could serve well for new member introduction and community building.

Elle: Friday night is good. So many people stumble in on Friday nights, but don't make it to things on Saturday morning. Not every member needs to come to each one. Soda/Pizza. Maybe have someone from one of the guilds give a presentation.

Mark: Why shouldn't it be on 5mof Thursday?

Elle: It interferes with the electronic music night on Thursdays. 5mof is also a different vibe. The other reason is that somebody put Evil Frog Happy Hour on the board and people came asking about it.

Member projects -- recuperate flaschen taschen.

How to make donation feel worthwhile, even when they're not coming into the space all the time. Twitch, attention economy, knowing that people see that you're donating.

More custom swag. Fashion. Let's do a swag-making competition!

Enterprising volunteers might:

  • do a happy hour -- get new poeple.
    • Loren / Julius -- FT & LED grid projects.

Do-ocratic Task Board[edit | edit source]

Participation also means doing stuff to contribute to the space. Propose new tasks or pick some tasks from Github, from what needs to be done around you, or whatever, and see if someone will sign up to work on that task. Anyone can sign up and it's a great way to show you are contributing!
