Excellence[edit | edit source]

Our One Rule is to Be Excellent to Each Other.

Chaz: what is excellence?

Heather: contributing positively to the environment aorund you

someone: Respecting one another

Kavya: getting sushi for everyone

LX: leaving things more functional than you found them, leaving things cleaned up

Berber: don't be an asshole (breaking bad quote, DBAA)

What does that mean? Please see our page on Excellence !

Anti-Harassment Policy & Community Standards of Excellence[edit | edit source]

Noisebridge has an Anti-Harassment Policy!

Chaz: see Community Standards fore more info

Everyone is expected to follow the Anti-Harassment Policy, please familiarize yourself with it.)

For approachable & specific guidelines see: Community Standards

Brief Kudos[edit | edit source]

Heather: [missed?]

Jojo: to Michael(Newman) for holding down the sewing room

Elan: a young woman visitor starting organizing the electronics room and brought much-needed energy to the room

Guilds & WGs[edit | edit source]

WE/Z: representing the Meme Guild, if you have any please bring em to Noisebridge #memes discord... MEME ON!

Kavya: oil reservoir is low on one of the industrial machines in sewing room ("flatbed machine")

Heather: access contro: consensus from last week, but unclear if it's been deployed; semi-acted on

Jonathan: There is a patch job for the chiller on the laser cutter, it's working, but if you hear the machine beep after the first three beeps, then turn it off immediately! Hit the emergency stop button if you get more than three beeps, so we don't destroy the machine!

Jonathan: we're making progress in the 3D printing room, to provide clear guidance to use use the machines

Chris: don't think there is a machine shop guild, but the lathe is currently offline DO NOT USE THE LATHE

Elan: all the equipment for colo has been donated and will be moved there soon, they want to purchase a router for it, donations accepted (cash and equip) for a professional-grade router; talk to Daniel, Ciara or Elan

Treasurer's Guild[edit | edit source]

Anarchist societies under a capitalist state need money to survive and thrive, yo.

This is the time to request reimbursements for expenses, and bring up near-term expenses you anticipate. You must state it here on the record at a weekly meeting in order to get reimbursed!

Bring the physical receipt to weekly meeting, or email a pic to treasurer@noisebridge.net, or post a pic in Zulip or Matrix instances

If you do not submit a receipt, you will not get reimbursed! If you submit a receipt and it wasn't approved at a meeting, you will not get reimbursed!

Spending Needs[edit | edit source]

Jonathan: new electronic block for music room; $135 total

Jonathan: Laser cutter focal lens is cracked, looking for a replacement, $35 expected cost

Reimbursements approved:

Jonathan: music room electronic lock - $135

Jonathan: laser cutter focal lens replacement - $35

Heads up for bigger spending project: up to $10k for complete overhaul of the space's electrical system (kick this to discussion item)

Chris (Blitzkrieg): WE MUST CONSTRUCT ADDITIONAL PYLONS -- we have been consulting to get an electrician through to get estimates, gave him "every damn thing ppl said they wanted done in this space" -- loose estimate $10k ($8k labor, $1500 materials)

Group: sounds like something we should further discuss (Zacchae agrees).

mister_name: 2 hivemappers, dscussion item

mister_name: Locking cabinets for portable soldering kits. Est. Price: $100-$175 (to be better researched, and seek reimbursement at a later meeting)

New Members/Access Members[edit | edit source]

Alex: would like to be an access member; very involved in the space, 3D print room maintenance

(Chaz seeks feedback, blockers)

Alex is now an access member

Travis: wants to be an access member; sponsored by Elan. Was an access member before, dropped out a while back, has been coming back, wants to donate regularly. Thinks they can be a stweard of the space, keeping the space orderly, opening & closing

Question: why'd you leave?

Travis: got disillusioned with the class, got stressed, took a break

Zacchae: we expect a recurring donation from accepted members. You can do cash donations, online donations, put your name on cash in the cash box and the treasury guild will record this.

Travis is now an access member

John: not ready to be an access member at this time. Wants to spend more time here etc.

Chaz: What's a core member?

Chaz: A core member is a second, harder to obtain title, that requires a second sponsor at NB. Other requirements ? Amount of time you've been at NB?

Chaz: If you are an access member at NB and would like to become a core member-?

Chaz: Core members are legally members of the NB nonprofit corporation. Your name will become associated with the NPO.

Consensus Items[edit | edit source]

Chaz: Big-C consensus item /... we do things via consensus, and some decisions are discussed publicly and need members' awareness.

Chaz: Does anyone have a Big-C consensus item?

Chaz: No.

WE/Z: can we have little-c consensus item during this meeting?

Chaz: yes.

Berber: are money requiests big or little C?

Chaz: by and large little-c, unless it's big money. Big money == Big-C consensus

Zacchae: every time money leaves the org it needs to be documented at this meeting. For larger amounts, it needs to be first discussed, so that many minds have input.

Chaz: confirms that we have no Big-C items.

Discussion Items[edit | edit source]

Jean Jacques: closing procedure

Naomi: Welding Class Sept 2-6 planning

Blitzkrieg: Electrical improvements $10k? Let's discuss

  • mister_name: Two project proposals for Hivemapper Cameras, CM4s and HQ Cameras

Daniel (Web): Discord Drama (If you know you know)

1: closing procedure [edit | edit source]

On topic closing procedure
From/Raised by Jean Jacques
Seeking decision

Jean-Jacques: Night owls often want to stay late. Do we have soft-closing times? It is disruptive to be told "you need to leave immediately" when someone wants to go. It would be nice to be give 15m of heads up. Often I need to clean up projects/wash dishes/etc.

Heather: On the topic of closing time. We often arrive ~8am when sometimes people leave by 9am. There is deliberate

Zacchae: It would be great to be open 24/7 but we are all volunteers.

MisterName: All that is great. To reiterate we're all voluneers/no-staff. It's up to the last access member to decide when . It sounds like you'd like to get a heads up which can be achived by communicating with access folks. I try to give people notice but you don't always have the bandwidth at ~3am.

Daniel: It sounds like you'd like to be an access member and I would sponsor you as I see you doing excellent things.

Jean-Jacques: I don't think I've been around long enough but I appreciate it. I will consider it.

Elan: It's excellent to give non-access members a headsup when you plan to close, if you're the last access/core member.

Heather: when she closes during lunch, she tries to give notice, wants to leave by 12:30, tries to give 15-20 minutes notice.

Chaz: do we want to give a little-c consensus check? Maybe check on people if whoever you are, as an access member walk around and ask.

Newman: As a person who often shuts down I think people should be prepared to wrap up when asked and people should give grace.

Elan: ask people to help close down the space, when you're an access member closing the space down

Kavya: Riding the bus gives people hard deadlines to get out.

Chaz: if we can notify people, we will.

Jean-Jacques: members can give 10-15 meeting notice, BUT non-members can ask around to find out who are the remaining members and ask about their timing.

2: Two project proposals for Hivemapper Cameras, CM4s and HQ Cameras[edit | edit source]

On topic Two project proposals for Hivemapper Cameras, CM4s and HQ Cameras
From/Raised by mister_name
Seeking decision

MisterName: 3-5 weeks ago we got a donation of dashcameras that aim to make a distributed open-source google-map-like thing. So far we've recieved 3 project proposals for on hivemapper a piece (~$130 market value).

Come to the discord and make a proposal! Some

They are reasonably valuable which is why we're treating them like assets.

Chris (Blitz): Can we consense to try to sell 10-15 of them to be disassembled and try to be sold just check if they will sell?

Chaz: Let's say 15. Do we have consensus? It seems so!

MisterName: I've been attempting to coordinate access and we have them in a locker. I'm open to anyones ideas for disassembly.

Jonathan: Working newer gen for access control! Initially this would be used internally for RFID logs/ids

  • approved!

Marion: Working on a computer-controlled pendulum demo for the space, needs a CM4 for this.

  • approved!

3: Welding Class downstairs Sept 2-6 planning/concerns/etc[edit | edit source]

On topic Welding Class downstairs Sept 2-6 planning/concerns/etc
From/Raised by Naomi
Seeking awareness, soliciting concerns

Naomi: The Welding crew are coming through again at the dates indicated in the BELOW project post. This was announced at several successive meetings before we gave them a contract to sign. Both parties (NB and @Hayden Jenson's folks) have now signed that contract. $2000 deposit has been given. $2000 remains to be delivered to NB for the use of our space for that time. Our end of the deal: Clear out the downstairs just like we did for the last time they came through. We did it the night before, after the Tuesday meeting. We can do it this way again. WELDING WORKSHOP SEP. 2nd-6th

https://discord.com/channels/720514857094348840/1524920459647516822

The point of this discussion space is to field questions, comments, concerns, and make sure everyone's aware of what NB will look, feel, and smell like for that week.

Tuesday Sept 1 (evening): set up

Sunday Sept 6 (mid afternoon): tear down

For the welding workshop discount for NBers, go to weekly meeting discord channel

https://discord.com/channels/720514857094348840/1024714833851076728/1541998704352034866

Concerns about the odor of welding were raised, but not overly worrisome.

There will be disruptions to the downstairs of NB.

  • A dump run is needed to remove loose stuff (who has a truck?) We need a truck
  • Much of the stoff on the patio must be removed and sent to the dump, including the awning frame and wooden tables
  • The ENTIRE DOWNSTAIRS AREA will be inaccessible from Sep 2nd to the 6th
  • All normal NB activity will need to take place UPSTAIRS. Entire downstairs will be off limits for normal NB use

Chaz: when you say "downstairs will be cleared out"

Chris: everything will be cleared back to the industrial shelving.

  • any tables and movable equipment will be moved into the woodshop
  • knitting machine and flaschen-taschen will stay in place

Jean-Jacques: commits to cutting up the awning frame (need angle grinder, discs?) Had clever idea for distributing excess material but it was advised against.

Chris: we do need a dump run to eliminate the awning

LX: Why eliminate the awning rather than put it back on top of the building facade?

Newman: We can put a tensioned piece of fabric across the patio

Chaz: to summarize, downstairs will be cleared out, big things pushed against the wall, Limbolandia cleared out, awning frame cut up and removed

Jean-Jacques: contingency-we could get a u-haul to do the move, $20/hr Home Depot rental truck. Says he will look into truck rental.

5: Discord drama[edit | edit source]

On topic Discord drama
From/Raised by  Daniel (Web)
Seeking outcome

Chaz: Web Daniel has discord drama to discuss.

Daniel Web: Naomi deleted people's messages and audit logs from the Discord. People she had issues with. Daniel proposed to LX to remove her mod powers. 18 months ago someone was banned from NB for doing what she did. Opens floor for discussion.

Naomi: It's important to state I was exceptionally angry at one person, rage-deleted something that "didn't matter," [it was a random meme i didn't even look at when i deleted it] -- is okay with being de-moderator-ed. In the other case, someone said they didn't want something in the record, asked for it to be deleted, and Naomi did so.

Heather: checked the audit logs, didn't see deletions...

WE/Z: I have the original screenshots of the logs before they were deleted.

someone: logs weren't deleted, they're still there, you can go see them

WE/Z: I asked the person Naomi conflicted with to take a 2-week break from NB, from governance etc. They are not here now. There are witnesses to the request to taking the 2-week break. Naomi and Loren have too much governance power over the space. Feels very upset that there was an ask to disengage disregarded, and feels unheard and and unrespected. Messages that were deleted included "I don't like that you included screenshots of my personal messages (DMs?)." When I asked Loren to take a break it was not to dethrone, but to elevate others to fulfill those roles while they take a break. Talk:Meeting Notes 2026 08 25

Newton: Naomi and Loren have contributed majorly to running the space, and the culture, acknowledging this while it might get swalloed during this dispute. Naomi owned up to what she was doing. Doesn't think more punishment than de-modding needed

Chris:

Drynn: Does noisebridge have a discord policy?

Daniel: No strict rules

Elan: after the last time there was mods deleting messages, there was a policy added, you should take a screenshot of what you're deleting and post to the mods channel, so it's documented. It's been rarely used.

Naomi: Wasn't aware of the screenshot-then-delete policy, sorry. This was a months-long conflict that should've been dealt with via mediation but wasn't. Difficult convo that has a lot of aspects. Scope needed to better understand. I've been the recipient of vicious hurtful rumors. The way WE/Z approached me was, "Here are some vicious rumors about you, so take 2 weeks off." Didn't know how to respond to that. I confirmed with WE/Z the conditions wrt Loren taking a "bureaucracy break" for 2 weeks, was that she was also going to be required to take 2 weeks off from governance/bureaucracy. In other words: Wheezy brokered the deal w/ Loren before talking with me at all; Loren's *conditions* for taking a step back were that I do so too.

Heather: Focusing on discord moderation: mods shouldn't be deleting other peoples messages, esp if you're in conflict with them. What was the coverup?

Zacchae: Naomi did you delete messages?

Naomi: I was angry and rage-deleted a message of Loren's. Specifically a random meme.

Heather: What about deletion of other users' stuff?

Naomi: Someone wrote -- on my bravespace forum post where i was describing what i saw as important to the record -- that they didn't like me writing what they said to me in private. I deleted that and i deleted that person's complaint about it b/c i felt it complicated the bravespace forum post. (What is a bravespace forum post for, who defines it.)  I didn't feel as though I was doing something problematic when I did that, and i didn't delete those logs.  Happy to accept loss of mod powers, "Using my powers in anger was wrong."

WE/Z: End this topic for accepting (Naomi) that, hopes you accept the disengagement request. You are a core member, involved in almost every conflict in the space, so making this formally public - asking Naomi to take a break from 2 Tuesday meetings.

"involved in almost every conflict in the space" is pretty outlandish dude --nthmost on jitsi

WE/Z: Clearly: asking Naomi to not particulate in two Tues weekly meetings, starting next week.

Kav: Who will coordinate welding and NB18 while Naomi is not involved?

WE/Z: myself and others will work to coordinate these things, and others will jump in

Naomi: I would like to hear further justification for 2 weeks away from meetings specifically, why is it paired with the conflict with Loren?

WE/Z: so many reasons

Zacchae: it's a kind of ATL, we take abuse of ATLs seriously. When it's in the middle, we side with the ATL. Not a right or wrong issue, this one is just not clearly wrong.

Naomi: not opposed to ATL. Just trying to figure out what I did wrong apart from deleting a meme. i.e. what behavior do you want me to change

WE/Z: you covered tracks of interpersonal problems with Loren. People are upset about lack of transparency, gatekeeping from Loren

Zacchae: is this in scope for this meeting?

WE/Z: we should take this convo offline

Chaz: Let's take this offline. Let's consense about Naomi's 2-week weekly meeting ATL, and removal of Discord mod powers. If Naomi has questions, it's fair to answer them

Naomi: Yeah again, Wheezy framed this as, you need to respond to rumors and accusations about you, and the rumors are: she's making friends with people to "gain access to things." That i got close to the treasurer in order to "gain access to the treasury." If someone could tell it to my face, rather than vague anonymous rumours. Not trying to fight determination or consensed decision.

Chaz: Looks like no one wants to.

Zacchae: you've been asked to leave for two meetings

Naomi: yeah, i get that but it's not clear what my attendance at meetings has to do with anything i did wrong. i guess this discussion's been good though.

Chaz: let's consense about Naomi's mod removal. Anyone? No objections. It has been done.

Chaz: who has the power? LX.

LX: It has been done. Will get in touch with WE/Z to talk about remaining things.

Josh: do we have only one person who can moderate the discord?

LX: I'm the owner, there is a level below of manager.

Generally: we should have more people who can moderate our discord server.

Chaz: let's get the remaining discussion done

6: electrical upgrades[edit | edit source]

On topic electrical upgrades
From/Raised by Chris
Seeking discussion

Chris: we need electrical upgrades done to the building to make the place more useful. A capital expenditure to make the place more useful.. possibly as much as $10k.

mister_name: can you put the itemization of the project on discord #weeklymeeting?

Chris: err...

Heather: can contribute some of the itemization

Chris: two additional 20 amp circuits; expansion for machine shop: 220v circuit, plus 120v circuit (which it currently hasn't got); upstairs: add a discrete 120 circuit to the break room; an additional discrete shared 120v outlet to music room and electronics lab (in the corner of the wall they share); and one additional 120v circuit into the sewing room.

Chris: and one for the server room

mister_name: how much current?

Josh: 600 amps for the building? Or 200 upstairs, 200 downstairs?

Chris: 600 for the bldg, 200 amps for this building

Josh: it's divided 6 ways between the three suites in this building

Josh: I believe each floor is getting 200amps, of course more than that within the building but can only deliver 400 amps to this space. It might be 600amps per floor, I'd need to look a the service entry again.

Chris: we're linked to the other buildings under a 600 amp service entrance, but... really only 200 possible to 272.

Chaz: we're vibe-checking on spending $10k to improve electrical service as detailed above?

Heather: it is pricey but seems important. If that's the price, that's the price

WE/Z: how many new 220v?

Chris: one 220v downstairs machine shop

Jean-Jacques: all in favor of it, but are we comforable with affording this? Do we have enough committed income to cover rent, basics, and have this upgrade (which is an upgrade thru to 2030 lease ending.)

Chaz: Zacchae can we afford the $10k pop?

J-J: What if we can't afford the rent bc we can't bring income thru 2030

Zacchae: we have this space until 2030, what if we improve the space and can't afford the rent? We'd be sad.

J-J: would it be worth it if we're unable to afford rent in six months?

Zacchae: rent sucks, we should find a way to not pay rent. For $10k, that's maybe something we should decide over multiple meetings. This is not a today decision

J-J: we should put this off for at least two weeks

Chris: yes, it's a Big-C consensus item

Web Daniel: the number means nothing at this point, until we get better info

Chris: has a quote $8k for labor, $1350 materials

Lucifer: we should get a second opinion, $10k seems high

Chris: curious what Lucifer's sources are

LX: did overhear correctly this is for a single outlet?

General: no

Chris: 4 new circuits downstairs, 4 new circuits upstairs

Chaz: vibe check

Generally: we'll be discussing in future

Kav: Jean-Jacques' concerns are valid, we should take it seriously

Chaz: this discussion is not yet are we spending, but are we cool with the idea, then

moving forward with discussion in future weeks if we feel good about it

Chris: closing statement: has not yet haggled with the electricians. Possible he could talk them down a fair amount

Elan: recent california law requires that datacenters provide their own power sources... Noisebridge...?

LX's vending shelves donation measurements: 57" tall, 60" wide, 24" deep (Sergio)

Do-ocratic Task Board[edit | edit source]

Participation also means doing stuff to contribute to the space. Propose new tasks or pick some tasks from Github, from what needs to be done around you, or whatever, and see if someone will sign up to work on that task. Anyone can sign up and it's a great way to show you are contributing!

End of Meeting[edit | edit source]
