name / work or homelab / one word topic today (as yet unused)

  • Loren - working on arduino version of access control system, hackercoordinator software stack. , infrastructure
  • Kevin - working on homelab, dockerizing/containerizing, computers
  • Doug [doug.edmonds at nospam decasim.com]- working on side projects, porting some code into jax, deeply frustrating, deeply satisfying
  • Kevin - working on python things, some infra some distributed computing problems, collaboration; Discord: mister_name, Twitter/X: @kev, mister.namester at nospam gmail.com
  • Greg - thinking about git-repo-related things, esoterick
  • Sophia - thinking about the english civil war, Charles has been executed, HDMI
  • Jake - working on chess move evaluation, most recently re-organzing for speed, really good at large N not at small, (non-technicial skills that others find useful) [@smilodonedentulus on Discord]
  • Wolf - he/him - main thing done in the last few weeks: refactor my search engine to use file system extended attributes (mailto:noisebridge at nospam wolf.codes, @quickgreywolf on Discord)
  • Verda - working on an application for 3d printing: designers, users, buyers -- to route to closest printer when orderd, thinking about rails
  • Michael [discord: mb138] working on gpu frame corruption, - question: CTF stuff, networking boils down to socket api, -
  • [name: Leilani; discord: leiloons; email: leilanivquesada at nospam gmail.com] - DDI engineer (DNS, DHCP, IPAM), wants to learn more about infrastructure beyond DDI and share knowledge where she can
  • Farley - used to do infra stuff, nothing focus on, interesting
  • Corey - friends brought me here, user interfaces

OSI model- 7 Layers 7- Application 6- Presentation 5- Session 4-Transport- TCP/UDP 3- Network Layer 2- Data Link Layer 1- Physical Layer

IP- Internet Protocol TCP- Transmission Control Protocol/UDP- User Datagram Protocol- Q: Why does UDP still exist? A: What else would be used in its place? HTTP-

      • Watch Google talk about BBR

What is BBR? BBR = Bottleneck Bandwidth and Round-trip propagation time. BBR seeks high tput with small queue by probing BW and RTT sequentially.

What is Mosh? mobile shell - https://mosh.org/

https://en-wp.org/wiki/QUIC

DNS- Domain Name Service What is DNS name (fully qualified domain name) to IP mapping = A record IP to name mapping = PTR record alias records are CNAMEs

Who controls the root servers? Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN): Operates servers for one of the 13 IP addresses in the root zone

What is www WorldWide Web

IPv4 vs IPv6

IETF- Internet Engineering Task Force RFCs (requests for comment)

      • homework- read an RFC before next week ***

Does anyone want to

Lesson or Demo[edit | edit source]

  • Read aloud: clarify for meetup. We are taking notes in a riseup pad (or I am--help appreciated, and links). We have meeting notes posted to the wiki. noisebridge.net, search Infra, or Meetups/Infra. (the Infrastructure page has a disambiguation link.)
  • Shell, web services, self-hosting, networking!

What's up at work? In the homelab? - near an apartment building, air crowded with 2.4 and 5g

  • Cryptography

Greg - quantum something websites

  • Post-quantum secure algorithms
    • Key Encapsulation vs ... ? shared key negotiation?

  • Dwave - not a general purpose quantum computre
  • Rigitti (Berkeley) -
  • Google's San Diego
  • AWS & IBM - quantum simulators & computers

(introductions)

Questions, Discussion, or Coworking[edit | edit source]

=== Outstanding:

    • Networking questions - networking boils down to socket api

wolf -- the wp:OSI Model is wrong, designed by committee, and never reflected reality

I recommend digging into wireshark.

    • of michael -- gpu frame dropping ?! -- tell us of memory pipelines
    • cryptography -- post-quantum & otherwise / loren
    • (non-technicial skills that others find useful) / jake

  • Kevin - being about to express technicall things in a way people can understand
  • Doug - speaking to unaffiliated many untechnical users -- listen, come up with new features
  • Kevin -- collaboration with other developers
  • Leilani - Growth mindset -- feedback, be fun to work with, don't need to know all the answers, just who knows the answers, don't take anything personal, let the ego go
  • Steve - if you think you're morally opposed to something -- (except you might be scared or uncomfortable) -- e.g. frat/sorority, would never hang out. Grad school taught them, had artificial barrier -- now, can relate to them at the beach. Try something you think is outside / beyond / yourself
  • Michael
  • Corey
  • Sophia -- sales -- give data sample, people disappear for 3 weeks. --- ? first neurotic interpretation?
  • Jake - hitting the minimum technical bar, now soft skills -- working on -- oportunities for peers to grow skillset, signal boost their skills or projects
  • Greg -- knowing what's important to work on at all. Unemployed, thinking about next job. Hamming quote -- Hamming question -- What's the most important problem in your field? Why aren't you working on it.?
  • Wolf -- important, and difficult to get good at -- project management & prioritization, getting
  • Loren - give others the opportunity to show off their skills, invite them to treat you how they'd like to be treated
  • Verda -- tenaciousness, if you have something you want done -- do it until you figure it out. Make progress.
  • Doug -- sales isn't what people think it is -- negotiating structuring a deal. Sales is getting to know people, relationships. Dale Carniege- asked others what was important to them and sat and listened.

Want to learn more about // or present on

  • Verda -- asset pipelines, images
  • Wolf - pass
  • Greg - QUIC
  • Jake -- networking, every week my answer, has not changed
  • sophia -- under
  • corey - skip
  • michael -- networking
  • Leilani - netowrking // talk about DHCP
  • Steve - out of tech for a bit, was in AI. Using physics to understand what's going on in LLMs.
  • Kevin - pass
  • Doug -- more about code pipelines, gpu performance comparisions. perf / precision
  • Kevin -- TLS RFC --
