  • CAP -- Consistency, Availability, Partition Tolerance
    • if you're not partition tolerant, you don't have the other guarantees either - on live distributed systems
  • jepsen.io - distressed distributed systems

elan - noisegarden deployment - DHCP

zacchae - distributed email A storage backend that relied on a store that was owned by multiple users, introducing a difference in absolute path causing the error.

Dave - eh, we know you like syncthing

CRDT - Conflict-free Replicated Data Type (CRDT) file modification handles concurrent edits by applying commutative operations, immutable states, and binary encoding.

null -- so, its conflict resolution (conflict instigation) strategy is "call a human". It's a layer 9

resend.com - (good for 3000 mails a month)

null - on-Bitcoin function vulnerability,

funds generated on hardware signing devices (wallets), funds were being swept. How is this happening? Factory scandal? Malicious firmware? Security engineering goes into temper detection. A popular hardware manufacturer, had a vuln in call stack where sourcing entropy. wild goosechase, FFI between python and C, some code had some C macros that were introducing misconfigured random number generator code. Devs had set the value to 0 which caused an exploitable enumerable space only 32-bits wide.

Interesting evolution of the code base: At some point company wrote a bunch of FOSS code, the CEO was pissed that someone cloned their code base with different license, introducuing vuln.

Null used the signing device to compute keys, not for entropy generation, it was one of the very sources that had observable entropy.

High assurance systems might have shop where one side uses FFI, what comes out after compiling ? Can trust the compiler? How to do static analysis on object files?

Given a function that's designed to generate random data, how to test that?

  • Suites of tests:

Look for dumb things Look for periodicity Baysian would Measuring entopy common pattern kloback divergence: if you have a method of encoding information; how much of an overhead will be. Encoding schemes are context dependend. A scheme optimized for one setting is unoptimized in another.

Mutual information, High assurance systems, being able to physically validate properties is valuable.

high dispersal very large number space Can you conclude it is entropic as well? NSA's offensive team bribed RSA to use certain EC points, how the EC math is applied so their computational requirements were much lower. The struggle with standards bodies include constants. They can be large. Cryptographers want to know if these large numbers are not reducing computation expend for attacking it. State actors can chose favorable constants.

Nothing up my sleeve numbers. There are so many plausible NUMs, generates through a hash

Is this constant strong or weak? Have a simple english sentence that describes what's being done with NUMS points. How to guarentee NUMS?

We will average the number from known adversaries. multi-party computation?

TEE - trusted executation environments Secret computers! Can't introspect them, oblivious functions: how do we contruct a function so the server doesn't know about the args.

Elan: Update from Daniel, http://chuffed.noisegarden.nexus/, put a tool together to help with onboarding.

Daniel is hosting services on noisegarden Vault.noisegarden.nexus

How does donate.noisegarden work?

Outros[edit | edit source]

  • Loren - looking forward to friends and enemies noisegarden services
  • Doug - going down the KL divergence rabbit hole
  • Kevin - lots of interesting math talk distracted me today
  • Belalaia - came late so,
  • Derek - interested in the KL divergence - human language closeness - mutual informantion
  • Dave - appeciates tail distribution, optimization next time?
  • Erik - really liked the viz of huffed; superimpose it on the physical structure.
  • Elan - like learning about encodings as a form of distribution; assign weights to things based on ?. Daniel just commited linked.
  • Null - intuition from huffman encoding, the frequency of use of language (Zipf's law (dolphin speech))
  • Robert -
  • Eugene - Fake entropy, great viz on noisegarden.
    • Nix phone working; OnePlus 15.

Works with the XReals. Camera - not yet.

Q: lots of tokens, what were the challenges
