Elle - Build IRL is having a Christmas party with the folks who were part of their first cohort (i.e. myself and Daniel), but I have a +1 invite, if anyone would like to come and meet them!

Excellence[edit | edit source]

Open discussion on definitions, what is "excellence?"

Brief Kudos[edit | edit source]

Elle -

to Justin for helping with the thxgiving party
to everyone for bringing food!
to Yorick for donating a whole 'nother set of food for the evening meal that day!
to Nick for doing an amazing embroidery class!
to the guys whose names I don't know who were practicing in the music room really loud and who were trying to be respectful of peoples' senistivity to noise and other uses of the space!

Justin - back to Elle for helping put on such an awesome thxgiving event! Mark - to folks for working on the woodshop wall! Blue, Ken, Eric, Ron

Guilds[edit | edit source]

Elle - I gave a tour to a pair of cool women who are interested in Ceramics. One is very interested in teaching a class using our kiln.

We had talked about a Consensus item for having Guilds codified as having the opportunity to reject potential donated items to the guild. Open question - moved to discussion.

Fundraising should be a guild?

Justin - I suggest close collaboration between the non-profit board, advisors, and whoever is doing the fundraising guild. I'm happy to offer my support in all those efforts; background on public funding panels reviewing and adjudicating NEA funded grants.

New Members/Associate Members[edit | edit source]

Associate Member Applicants:

Justin[edit | edit source]

I enjoy helping places work better. I work with a lot of artist spaces and have always enjoyed the spirit of noisebridge and just want to help make it better! "Problem loving personality", find it meaningful to contribute to improving collaborative and community driven processes.

Mark - what kinds of stuff you been up to at NB since youve been hanging here again?

Been participating in community events, reading up on the documentation/wiki, checking the infra status, etc. Getting up to date on how things have been changed since I was last around, how issues are tracked, and how folks stay in touch with each other.

Mark - What projects or initiatives no existing already would you like to see here?

Justin - Video/Film production and post-production capacity, I'd like to see these capabilities added to NB as well as instruction and mentorship for those interested in learning tools of the trade.

Mona[edit | edit source]

Mark: What compels you to become a member, and what kind of projects are you interested in doing?

Mona - Sewing projects, currently, interested in happenings that have occurred, and would like to participate in future events. Sewing, Fabric Printing, Kyoyuzen technique of painting on clothes, experiment with projection mapping (Justin can help), might be found coding.

Has issues accessing Discord, suspended account associated with current phone number. Plans to acquire a "burner" phone to access phone-linked services.

Mark: Have you given a tour?

Mona: Hasn't received a tour.

Mark: Members should be experts at giving tours.

Mark: how would you moderate a hypothetical conflict between two otherwise excellent noisebridgers?

Mona: So new, don't know how I'd have authority to disrupt a conflict.

Elle: Describes a conflict in a concrete way; two people yelling at each other in a room, others look anxious, you're the only member in the space at the time, what do you do?

Mona: Conflict usually stems from one person not listening well to the other, so they'd ask parties to listen to each other, and if conflict involves an issue they don't have expertise in, would defer to another more experienced member.

Mark: see wiki re: Resolving Conflict page. 1st course of action: ask to disengage.

Elle: Ask to leave serves also as a 24/hour time-out.

JD: Asking to leave is important because we have a radically open door policy, which comes with letting in people who've not been vetted. last line of defence for maintaining excellence.

Loren: Emphasized value in communicating clearly and succinctly to anyone introduced to the space [perhaps during a tour] the established culture for managing conflict.

Loren: Suggests new associate members have a small cohort of contacts to learn from and ask questions of when challenged.

Mark: considering to defer Membership approval, wait for Mona to come to a few more meetings, get more integrated into the community norms

Elle: I've only seen this question asked of women in the space. Perhaps that's how it's occurred. Blocking a Membership on the grounds of someone not wanting to be a bouncer for the space doesn't seem right.

Suggestion: Anyone unfamiliar or new to the space, practicing giving tours.

Discussion about member's roles as conflict reduction and 'bouncers' ensued.

Deeper discussion as to how to make such an expectation known ahead of time for prospective members.

Kevin[edit | edit source]

Mark: asked about interest in NB, and contribution to projects:

Kevin:

  • Mentoring project makers on development, fabrication, production cycle "Productizing" project ideas, LEDs,
  • Electronics and Arduino, help teach Go language (learning but loving it)
  • How to balance work life Noisebridge? Strong boundaries, 2-3 times attending per week, willpower to limit engagement. Offered to help Noah with Monday night Arduino class,

Financial Report (first Tuesday of month only)[edit | edit source]

Loren: Need Venmo transaction details.

Financial Report deferred.

Spending Needs[edit | edit source]

Mark: asked if woodshop build was fully funded so far. Loren will confirm how much of woodshop budget has been used.

Fundraising Update[edit | edit source]

How's it all going

Earlier discussion referenced recent fundraising meeting, scoliciting support for the process. Justin suggested (earlier) close collaboration with BOD.

Big C Consensus Items[edit | edit source]

None

Consensus Items [edit | edit source]

None

Discussion Items[edit | edit source]

QIDI Max 3 - 3D Printer (filament) purchased on sale, to be added to space. (Note - NB IP ranges are on some block lists)

1: Meetup and PayPal[edit | edit source]

From/Raised by: Elle Seeking: decision/outcome/advice/[?] On topic: Instances of Meetup.com PayPal receipts not coming in to NB PayPal account

Meetup Higher Admin needed for Elle, to fix this:. PayPal on Meetup needs to be connected to NB PayPal.

Loren confirmed Meetup is configured to proper NB PayPal email.

2: Issue / Initiative Tracking[edit | edit source]

Comments on Trello needed to track incoming requests. Trello ditched for being proprietary and also, since it's online only, people assumed there were not tasks to be done.

Justin pointed out GitHub Issue Trackers for both infrastructure and buildout-cap are stale.

3: Notes from Jitsi Chat[edit | edit source]

Sameer: I recall someone talking about using Luma earlier? I find it a more appealing and better-designed product than Meetup. Though don't know how that will affect distribution?

Do-ocratic Task Board[edit | edit source]

Josh noted that we're lacking a comprehensive calendar of events indicating space availability

End of Meeting[edit | edit source]

Mark: Adjourned 9:09 pm
