Kavya wants to get pins for the space

currently, basic supplies are often being taken from attendee's personal stuff (de facto donations), would be nice to get NB to pay for it

fabric scissors: fabric ONLY

things we need:

   - pins

   - leftie scissors (1 set)

   - black thread (cones AND spools)

   - sleeve board or pressing ham, etc. - ask Kavya for specifics

Kavya seems to know where to purchase supplies?

Newman says that he might be able to make a sleeve board and pressing ham in the woodshop

Kavya would like proper fabric weights, Newmand and Jeojeo think the current makeshift ones are suitable

5th edition of Patternmaking was found!! (general consensus to put it in a guild locker)

locking storage - full agreement that this would be good to have. Newman volunteers to look into building one

discussion about locker availability. Kayva strongly wants a personal locker for a specific Hello Kitty sewing machine (separate from the guild locker)

guild locker would be managed by the sewing guild. for trusted, active guild members. discussion of maybe logging access to the locker?

LX - Tactical style corsets, but it was hard to mass produce, want to start a cosplay club

Eugine - I know almost nothing about sewing but i want o add to my wearable setup, nylon belt.

neman: classes in this room we have 2 or 3. Sewing circle kavia and ? thursdays, Heather ahnd-sewing tentative when people ask for it. Do we want to have official dates?

Heather: Not yet on the meetup. Maybe once its regular. or if we have trouble getting people to do it.

Newman: Machines maintenance, lack thereof. When was last repair?

Jojo: I rely on Cheick. He's familiar with our machines.

Newman: I know my limits. There's things I'm missing for all machines.

Jojo: I'm learning as I go along.

Newman: as we go along, we learn.

Jojo: I can contact Cheick.

Heather: Knowing the status of them useful.

Newman: They all work.

LX: Want sewing machine downstairs to be a beginner-friendly one.

Newman: Machine there is reattached but missing parts.

We could tether the tools to a pegboard down there.

Heather: How should we handle outside noisebridge and their input from non-sewers. Someone asked about room access tp the room.

Jane: If someone comes in and wants to get help how would they?

LX: I posted about machien and then made a thread.

Newman: Should non-sewers open the sewing room when NB opens? I don't want to restrict new sewers.

Jojo: We could restrict just the all star lineup of industrial machines on the left side and open the domdestic machines on the right to beginners who haven'to trained.

Newman: If any of these broke it would be devastating and priority to fix.

LX: Like laser trainers?

Newman: We kind of have that and have trained each other but don't have formal trainers. We could have system like table saw in woodshop where there's a key you get to run the machines.

LX: Like a lockbox with the power switch.

Jojo: It could be a problem.

LX: Like key management? What about just a code?

Jojo: How about a sign?

Jane: I could help make a sign.

Newman: We could have a walkthrough guide for new people in the space. Also I don't like this machine at the end of the table and it was better when it was ironing station. Its full of oil and recently setup. We should talk about donations before accepting stuff. Its good to have backups but if we get another industrial that's 5 in the building. We have 2-3 people using them sometimes but we could store them when not in use. Under shelf right of door is junk that could be recycled.

LX: We could use sewing projects in sewing Noisebins tracking with a tag to see who/what/when/why the project is here.

Newman: Donothack stuff can stay till we get stuff organized. We need a better organization system for this pile.

Heather: Its unfortunate we don't have a yarn user here.

Newman: We should have a proper sign. And make the domestic side user-friendly. I think we're gonna move industrial machine at table and put ironing board.

Kavia: I could teach people with some of the machines but I don't know the leather machine.

Newman: Part of using it means you know how to thread it, change needles, basic repairs and parts changes.

Kavia: I know how to use serger but not how to thread it.

Newman: You can learn from the manual its just color-coded holes. If you come in and serger is broken threaded its not cool and I do it twice a week. People like using serger but threading it after its messed up sucks.

Kavia: I've fixed one thread on it but never from scratch.

Newman: We can train people in the whole thing.

Kavia: I agree it should be part of the training.

Newman: Flow is to go from knowing juki single stich or cover stich to understand.

LX: We could print and laminate wiki docs for each machine above it.

Kavia: The industrial machine was left downstairs, why?

LX: explained the accessability for downstairs sewing

Newman: We could sell it for $300 they go 800-1000 working.

Jojo: We could put a super beginner station downstairs.

Kavia: Did we finish making bobbin cover for super heavy duty. Should we buy from amazon?

Newman: No, if someone wants to use it they'll pick it up and make the bobbin cover and it will work fine not perfect but amazon ones are the same function.

Kavia: I don't know how to make a bobbin cover 3d printed. Having the proper one is probably good.

Newman: Machines are functional, one has spool broken off.

Kavia/jojo: we have a hack for that.

Newman: Its as simple as printing out a square.

Heather: It takes effort to learn to print, I'm willing to help you learn.

Kavia: Adapter for heavy duty only takes combs it would be good to have one take spools too.

Newman: I don't use domestic machines personally. People like using them.

Jojo: I use it.

Kavia: if you want a button whole / ? stich none of the ones we have do that.

Heather: Do we want to put space maintainer / guild steward sign somewhere with names of people who know how things work for someone to

LX: We could print wiki pages laminate for dry erase pens leaving space to add names till we update wiki and reprint so often.

Heather:

LX: We could do merit badge type objects like laser training gives you a token you lasercut that has a hole for a keychain.

All: We should have some domestic machines in working order labeled as beginner friendly.

Newman: I want to highlight the connection between repair skill and usage. Its part of the hobby that learning to use the machine, adjust setting, you have to open it up and hit buttons and twist knobs to set it.

Jojo: You just have to keep rethreading.

Jane: Till you get the right tension.

Jojo: As long as you keep it oiled and treat it good and not push it too hard.

Newman: Yeah I remind people if they feel resistance stop and use hand crank check maybe its bird nested or bobbin popped. Don't redline too you bust the machine.

Heather: 3d printing has similar issues.

Newman: Yeah theres often abandoned wasted prints there. Sewing has a higher bar of entry you need more time thought cut and steps to use it. It filters a lot of bullshitters who show up saying "I want a pirate costume why doesn't the machine make it for me?"

Kavia: Many don't know what clothes take and think it should be cheap and easy.

Newman: I want to talk about open and close process of room. After we finish meeting we could each take a machine and organize and clean up its whole setup and tools.

Heather: I want to discuss who to give code to. If an access member is here they'll let them in. When should I?

Newmna: Coming often is a natural filter to get the code.

Jojo: Other thing is to make people clean it up.

LX: We could take pictures of each clean setup and post it on the wall/board above the machine.

Newman: We should post pictures of messes left in #sewing and ask who left that so people get some shaming to learn to clean up.

Jane: Sometimes you don't know where stuff is anymore.

Kavia: I bring in my own stuff to avoid that problem lately.

Newman: You can lock up your favorite tools that you rely on being here reliably. Scissors are kind of a personal item.

LX: Does anyone write their name on the tools?

Jane: I do on my scissors!

Newman: People who leave stuff out making a mess make their stuff up for grabs in the process.

Heather: Desirae has been elaving a donothack box on the workspace instead of on the DNH shelf up top and it blocks using the space.

Newman: Maybe a laminated view of the room red lining the spaces to keep clear.

Jane: What do we want to do with materials pile here?

Newman: Chip away at it.

Jane: Maybe we could coordinate progress made on this on Discord so you know what to work on and what other people are doing.

Heather: Yeah like post pictures or threads on the channel.

Jojo: What if restrict the pieces of scrap that we choose like them being a usable size not the small stuff.

Newman: Like this I put this in here but its mostly too small.

Jane: Laser sign says that not to put tiny pieces in bin.

LX: We could adopt a storage system to hack the stuff.

LX: I'm starting cosplay guild and want to get trained on machines to know how to direct people interested in it how to use sewing responsibly.

Newman: People can learn a lot by reading the manuals. I can train people but I have to train you how to read the manual how to thread it for example and I can't have you just expecting to be hand-taught everything.

Heather: We could put RTFM or get trained above the industrials.

Newman: We are volunteers yeah. We're not getting paid to train people all day.

Kavia: Yeah a proper class probably could cost money. Its about trying to figure out what approach helps someone learn but its not your obligation to figure that out and they can try to figure that out for themselves.

LX: In my case, which day is the day to do it.

Newman: Today. Its my office hours.
