Big C Consensus Items[edit | edit source]
Nobody likes 3 hour meetings, only explain if new people are present. https://www.noisebridge.net/wiki/Current_Consensus_Items
Consensus Items [edit | edit source]
Only for talking about Big C consensus items, small c consensus items should be discussed with people at the space at the time of the change/new item or can be reserved for the discussion section of the meeting.
Discussion Items[edit | edit source]
It is recommended to post items for discussion ahead of time at https://pad.riseup.net/p/nbmeeting. (Check that the template for the meeting is in place already, and that last week's notes have been moved to the wiki, of course)
Item prompts should follow the format: From/Raised by: [your name here] Seeking [decision/outcome/advice/something else] On topic: [topic]
Discussion Item 1[edit | edit source]
From/Raised by: David Seeking On topic: Woodshop issue/ complaint
David: So I came in, brought my roommate on Tues. I had an experience with John. Unsafe, terrible, threatening. John was yelling, ordering people around. etc. Pulled out tools from under people, etc. Being very controlling. Very concerning to me.
Loren: John has been asked not to use the table saw and power tools recently. Lots of people were uncomfortable with his usage. Potentially dangerous/expensive. We asked him to not use the table saw due to triggering the sawstop so frequently. It may be a reaction to he himself being asked to take more care of himself and the woodshop space more generally.
David: he was acting like an authority/ teacher. Came across very strong.
Quinn We should maybe have him take a safety training of some sort.
JD: Sounds like he's taking real ownership of the shop, and maybe just wanted to justify his value there after coming hot off of a meeting where he was kind of "reprimanded".
David: In his defense, I see he wanted to help ppl, but the way he went about it wasnt helpful.
Mark: Is this a council chamber issue?
(Loren and JD nod in agreement)
David: he's grabbin ppl's tools, running around them. etc. not great behavior
Loren: So action: We broadly request he doesn't be overly demanding of people in the woodshop, it is not safe to be overbearing, ESPECIIALLY when others are directly using tools. It is decidedly unexcellent to go about bossing people around in this way.
David: I suggest a potential break from the shop.
John: Maybe from the shop, but not the space itself more broadly.
David: I'd like to make sure he understands why we'd ask this of him. We need to clearly communicate it to him why.
Brennan: We want to make sure he understands he is welcome in the community and that we just need him to make others feel as welcome as well. Its a balancing act.
John: John wants to take feedback seriously.
John and Sam, offer to talk to John.
Mark: do we consense to ask him to stop shop-work?
Sam: Lets just let the council do its thing with him.
Discussion Item 2[edit | edit source]
From/Raised by: Dylan Seeking: Outcome On topic: January Event Planning
Conintuation of the numerati event thats been going on. Pretty low-key event. But its looking like the community wants to do a kind of bigger event. Bring some internation folks in, etc...
Want some guidance on how to do this. We ran into a space conflict with the writer's workshop.
Planning on doing this bigger one on January 16th.
Mark: Let's settle on a day and then stake out the subspace by marking it as such on the wiki and Meetup
Discussion Item 3: NB 15[edit | edit source]
From: Quinn On Topic: NB 15 Seeking: awareness, support, planning
Quinn: Wondering if anyone wanted to see any particular event done?
Currently on the docket - art making type thing, leather making kind of thing (wallets), rube goldberg hackathon, robotics competition,
ideas: looking to get some chess GM's here and do giant human chess with them (w/ Karls Angels as players on the chess board), kinect sidewalk game idea
raffle? (we would ask people and startups to donate things? coupons from business? all sorts of things!)
vintage tech auction?
MS: whats the main goal of the event exactly?
Q: Raise money and celebrate NB!
idea: lets get commemorative T-shirts!
Event planned to happen late april.
Dylan: Lots of stuff going on around then - soapbox derby thing?
JD: I'd need it to be more front end of April...
Q: Second week?
JD: Sounds a lot better.
(Some discussion about silk-screened shirts)
Discussion Item 4: Upstairs Hackitorium[edit | edit source]
From: Loren On topic: hackitorium use upstairs Seeking: [c]onsensus
hackitorium use upstairs - looking like bedding & interfering with existing purpose of space.
There's a rug stapled to the floor that interferes with use of the coworking space. Strikes me as turning over this corner of the space to private interests. With cushions it looks more like a space for sleeping than anything else.
Consensus - the rug not be stapled. please be excellent and communicate in usage of the rug
Discussion Item 5: Big Wheel Race in April as well[edit | edit source]
Brennan - we should court these people and see if they want to come to NB and mod/deck out their bigwheel vehicles
(another week, a discussion item)
Do-ocratic Task Board[edit | edit source]
Participation also means doing stuff to contribute to the space. Propose new tasks or pick some tasks from Github, from what needs to be done around you, or whatever, and see if someone will sign up to work on that task. Anyone can sign up and it's a great way to show you are contributing!
